This place is very clean, and exceptionally organized for providing the third COVID-19 vaccine booster shot. It took only about 5 minutes to get in the elevator because they only allowed two people on at the same time. Thats for the protection of patients as well as staff. I think that was a good move. Plus once I went up to the 9th floor to get my inoculation it took only a matter of 2 minutes to get that booster shot injected into my arm. Pretty painless also, which is good. And then I had to wait the typical 15 minute period in the waiting area before I was able to leave. This was self-monitored so I can assume that most everybody did take just 15 more minutes out of their day to make sure that they did this right in case they had a bad reaction to the vaccine booster. I am very impressed with this place. UT Southwestern is a great great hospital! Each visit I am more and more impressed. Thank you UT Southwestern!

Been urgently trying to get an appointment for Dr Knowlton for 3 weeks. Called, sent emails, sent messages on their site, nothing. One operator kept insisting she’s not a dietitian despite the fact that their own website states otherwise. Then another one called and wouldn’t talk to me. I heard her having a conversation with someone else with me on the phone. Then with my 3rd reminder, I got a link to their portal with absolutely nothing on it.If this is how they operate, it’s probably a good thing they never got back to me.

I had surgery here and it was the WORST experience of my life! A resident doctor intubated me and injured me. To make matters worse, the head anesthesiologist wouldnt tell me who intubated and caused the neglect.I woke up feeling the worst Ive ever felt in my life and Ive had surgeries before. Had I not noticed what theyd done to me before I left, they would have denied everything.Patient Assistance hasnt helped. The Legal Dept for the UT system wants my medical records to better address the claim. They have them and refused any more beyond that day. They are not going to pick apart anything to get out of being responsible and accountable for their employees negligent actions!Being a healthcare worker, if they can do this to me, theyll do it to everyone. I will NEVER go back there for any surgical procedure. EVER. It was so bad, I cant bring myself to even step foot in that place. And billing... Warning. Make sure to request a detailed one. They over-billed me by thousands! I filed a fraud complaint with my insurance. I have a State complaint filed. The medical board is next.Negative stars if I could give it.

The admissions, and the nursing staff, were fantastic! Very professional and very good caregivers. Okay lets go to the waiting room. In my lifetime I have not never gone to an emergency room and wind up sitting in a waiting room armpit to armpit with other patients. Its always been you get checked in replace you in a examination room and a doctor shows up. Im still trying to process the logic behind the way they do things. There were a total of 27 patients all waiting to see a doctor or an ER doctor. I arrived at 11 a.m. and I left at 7:30 p.m. and not once was I told by anyone that a doctor will see you shortly. For the ratings that this hospital has needs to be re-evaluated. After walking out without being discharged by a doctor because I could not see a doctor. And because there were no doctors. I got better care at care now. Sad but so true. This Hospital or should I say the hospitals emergency room care is not what its made out to be. You get better care at Methodist Hospital, or Baylor Hospital. They know how to take care of patients

Update: I was able to schedule my second vaccine pretty easily once more appointments were released (and there were a lot released), I just think UT couldve done a better job at communicating the process.Warning for those getting a vaccine here: you will not be allowed to schedule your second vaccine until two weeks after your first. Once you do get a link to schedule, there are no doses reserved for people getting their second vaccine; you have to wait for dates to open up just like everyone else. If you call, you will just be told to keep checking to see IF more dates open up/get posted. Such a waste of vaccines when youre not guaranteed (and prevented from scheduling) a second one.

The gate keeping to get an appointment with some of these doctors is absolutely bonkers and insane. Having to call the appointment line, then be told my current doctor has to send 3 years worth of charting and a formal referral letter (even though my insurance does not require this) and then the doctor will decide if they can take me. Then I get a call the doctor will not see me and the person they offer instead does not address all of my clinical needs. And I have to seriously push back on the fact that they should know this considering the insane amount of information they need prior to even getting an appointment. Hopefully the actual doctors I do wind up with there are worth it. 3 stars instead of 1 simply due to the reputation for excellence for the actual providers. What an insane and unnecessarily difficult process.

I am so disappointed. It seems like since the pandemic, the quality of care and professionalism has been lost! I had a plastic surgeon refused to see me because of $150. After 6 surgeries through UTSW in the past 3 years, $150 is menial. My refusal was not about not being able to pay, but the principal. It was an appt in January and I had already paid $4K. I had another $4 estimate for a different procedure. My max out of pocket is only $6350 - which I explained to 2 different people. I thought when they would discuss with the plastic surgeon this would be resolved. However, he instructed them to reschedule because if was not an emergency. The plastic surgery follow up was based on breast reconstruction from cancer. If the surgeon or anyone on his staff or their families had the results I see daily, Im quite sure they would think differently. My appt was in January and to date, no one from his office has contacted me. To make matters worse, there seems to be a very high turnover in doctors. I had another appt with the other surgeons office. The doctor I was originally scheduled to see has left. My appt time was changed. When I arrived, they told me I had missed my appt and would have to reschedule. UTSW is 30 miles from my house. This is not the 1st time there was a scheduling issue and their nonchalant attitude is very concerning. Some of the staff does not appear to take into consideration the emotional state a patient may be experiencing - whether physically or mentally. Based on my recent experiences, at this time, I CANNOT recommend UTSW.

This is purely due to the absolutely horrendous system UTSW has for trying to make an appointment. You are on hold for upwards of 20 minutes or more (I hung up after that and yes, I tried multiple times over the course of a week) and even though the various new patient appointment online forms say that you will be contacted within one business day, I did not start receiving automated calls about making an appointment until a week later. The automated calls simply tell you to stay on the line which then routes you back to the main switchboard where you are placed on hold seemingly forever.Youre a busy center, I get that - but to honestly expect people to stay on hold trying to make an appointment for that length of time and to seemingly ignore online appointment requests in this day and age is inexcusable. Its unfortunate that I wasnt given an opportunity to actually interact with any of your live employees to make up for this. I hope if I ever show up in your ER I receive more expeditious attention and care than I received from your appointment systems.

Please let me know why this makes sense. Its a shot, not surgery. To be fair, I had a similar shot in November and a sinuplasty in December without getting a covid test (not at UT). I think I have a higher personal risk of getting Covid by going in and getting tested for Covid with a 1000 of my closest friends vs giving any of the staff Covid during my shot when I am symptom free. An extra trip in public for what purpose....oh wait, to contract Covid! The doctors see thousands of patients each week without covid test, why should a procedure be any different than any other visit? I told them I previously had Covid and was coming due to the residual symptoms that have occurred even weeks after recovering. I took the first appointment they had for the following week. The week passes and on the day before my appointment, they inform me that I actually need a negative test result or they will cancel my appointment. Had they told me this a week earlier, I would have scheduled a test days in advance (even though I do not believe it to be necessary). I tested positive for Covid-19 exactly one month ago and according to the CDC, should not be tested again yet as it may come back as a false positive. Every other healthcare professional I have contacted has agreed with this statement. Not only is this rule about a negative test against CDC regulations, but there was extremely poor communication in letting me know so that I could follow this protocol in time. I even offered to get a rapid test before the appointment the following day (which is a large time and out of pocket cost for no reason), but they still stated this was simply not good enough and cancelled my appointment. As a non-native Texan, I am extremely disappointed that this is one of the leading medical facilities in the entire Dallas area. I truly expected more professionalism, common sense, and logical thinking to be applied to the situation at hand. Now, I unfortunately will have to go back to my high intensity sport being unsure of the condition of my heart and lungs.

My sister was transferred to this hospital a few days ago and when she arrived the liver transplant team started to care for her right away. They knew coming in she was very sick and in need of a liver transplant because her doctors from her original hospital had already communicated that to them. Normal medicinal treatment was not helping her.The liver doctors ran all the testing they needed and came to us with their answer. They will not give my sister the “Gift of a second chance” as they claim on their webpage. They have chosen not to help her get a liver transplant as she desperately needs. The primary reason being that her past choices will condemn her to certain death because they don’t believe she will change her way like she says she will.On the hospitals web page it states, “ To help prospective transplant recipients make the most educated decisions about their care, we ensure that they fully understand the proposed course of treatment. We review the reasons and potential risks and benefits of the procedures, evaluations, and studies that patients will likely undergo during the transplant process. If our team believes that a liver transplant is the best treatment option for a patient – and he or she wishes to pursue this option – the patient’s name is added to the national United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) waitlist.“The team doesn’t believe that a liver transplant is the best option for my sister, instead they believe not helping her get a new liver and letting her surfer for weeks or months is a better option. My sister is only 28.I always looked at medical professionals as people who entered this profession as people who want to saves lives and make a difference. Not be in the profession to choose who they feel is worth saving based on a persons past behavior. In my eyes everyone is worth a second chance and I am thankful that I believe in God and I know he gives second chances if we are truly sorry for what we have done. I just wish more people were like this especially the liver team caring for my sister at the moment.

You feel like a meat pack here. It is impossible to communicate with the staff, impossible to get an appointment in a reasonable time frame and difficult to correct repeat billing mistakes. The staff is arrogant, lacking interest and training and probably it is overloaded as well. Sadly, the doctors care about numbers, too. Empathy and attention to patients specific needs are lost in a race for the dollar. Drug reps get inside with ease and arrogance, acting like they own the place, as we have recently witnessed. I wish it would be that easy for the patients themselves to get in and spend more than five min. with the doctor. Depressing and frustrating at the same time. Will have to go elsewhere.

Ever since she been in the clinic, she talked bad about everyone to me and especially against all the African American. Aston Infusion Clinic had a nurse practitioner whom was African American that Shannon did along with. Shannon Wishin ran off all the African American nurses including the nurse practitioner before they took that position completely out the clinic.Shannon Wishin is very distasteful, unprofessional, unpleasing, and very unpleasant to work with. She turned all the staff against me including the nurses. Every new hire we have had in Ashton Infusion Clinic, she bad mouth me so bad to where none of them spoke to me. She goes to lunch with a few of them and talked bad about me and the coworkers came back and told me. We had a lady she fired and I knew why she got fired and the process. I know a lot of things that I shouldnt have known. I reported Shannon Wishin to HR in 2017 because of discrimination, cursing at me on our one on ones, and distasteful comments made to me.Shannon then retaliated against me to where she made work very uncomfortable for me, she even confirmed to staff she treated me the way she did because I threw her under the bus. Coming back from maternity leave it got worse and worse. I then went back to HR about it. Shannon knew when HR was coming to investigate, so she called most employees in her office manipulated them to make herself look good and they did just that expect for one person whom was African American that told the truth because she finally seen what was going on. HR turned on me there was no help to where Shannon manipulated them into believing the lies. Behind closed doors when HR isnt involved she is a complete mess. Shame on HR and UT for not following your rules you have in place and doing your job properly and something needs to be done.Shannon fires me in October of 2019 and put me for non-rehire because she mad I told HR everything and the truth she even confirmed to staff members of why she did and treated me that way. Care here was just average. I agree that they don’t see their patients as people but rather as money. My position was eliminated late last year and I had medical bills in repayment. I was actively interviewing with an offer on the table. When I called to request a pause on my payments until I had income again, they refused to help me. It’s sad that healthcare often isn’t about the patients anymore. They were going to get their money, I just needed a little delay until I had income again.

I don’t usually do these reviews, but I truly felt like I had to. I went to the ER and was greeted with fast service. I went straight back to the room... to be greeted by an amazing tech, who was extremely sweet. He even watched a little COPS with me. Then in came Dr. Ed. He was so personal. And he was very informative. He knows his job well. And he has great bedside matter. Cracking jokes to keep the situation light, the nurse was great also. Crystal. When I was ready to head out the DR took out my IV himself to help the nurses because they were swapped. Then I lossed my charger and the DR went outside to help me look for it. We didn’t find it together, but I did find it later. Thanks UT Medical Center for having the best staff!

I have been driving from Abilene, Tx to UT Southwestern for my daughter to be cared for by three different clinics and a hospitalization. It is hard for me to drive in Dallas but with God as my co pilot, we have made many trips. I will continue to make this drive for I know she is getting the best care possible. Thank you UT Southwestern for being there and having the best doctors, nurses, research programs and most caring staff to make our visits and stays as comfortable as possible.

Do not be deceived. This facility has patient satisfaction as the lowest criterion on its list of priorities. It used to be a good place with great doctors but all the good doctors have left and the place is now over-run by green-horn nonchalant new graduate doctors who have no clue what they are doing! Long wait times, cheeky receptionists, exorbitant and super-inflated charges,...............sadly, I could go on and on : (

The layout of the campus is HORRIBLE. I had an appointment at the dermatologist and the entrance is LITERALLY hid among trees and bushes. No signage. I called while I was on campus and they were less than helpful. It was near lunch so, since I was late they put me at the end of all the patients and went to lunch. I was finally in a room.....with thin gown on freezing. No one came in my room for an hour. When she finally saw me she didnt even address my concerns.Ill never go back there.Jan

My daughter has Down syndrome and we had an appointment in December 2019 set up w/ the UT Southwestern Cardiology department. It was rescheduled to January 2020. She also had an appointment set up w/ Scottish Rite that we switched since we live over a 6 hour drive away. UT Southwestern called & rescheduled again for February 2020. We rescheduled the Scottish Rite appointment again because of UT Southwestern. We got a call last week less than a week before our scheduled appointment from UT Southwestern to reschedule again! The new date would be in April 2020. Mind you we have travel, hotel and etc already booked for our appointment. I asked to speak to the office manager to see if another dr could see my daughter. I was told each time the office manger would return my call on 1-28-2020 the day I received the call to reschedule for a third time and on 1-29-2020. No one ever returned my call both days. So now we are leaving in two days for my daughter’s appointment at Scottish Rite that I refused to reschedule again because of UT Southwestern continuously rescheduling our appointment and we still haven’t received a call from UT Southwestern. My daughter has had multiple appointments & surgeries over 20yrs in Dallas. This is the first time I’ve ever had a dr’s office reschedule an appointment. Let alone three appointments. This dr’s office is the most inconsiderate, incompetent and untrustworthy offices I have ever dealt with. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.

We came here for the delivery of our little one. Quality of care is worse and there is little care for patients and newborn. Staff go through a checklist of items to make sure they cover it. We kept asking for lactation consultants for 2 days without much luck. A consultant came by a few hours before we were about to move out. Also, we were told to vacate earlier than the allotted 48 hrs, so hospital could plan for staff in next shift!!Nurse staff and doctors are rude and care little.

I am disappointed in the treatment my husband and I received yesterday in a recovery room by a nurse. She was abrupt, disinterested, failed to answer questions and aggressive. She accused me of having a problem with foreigners which is ridiculous, since my profession is helping speakers of English as a second language to become better communicators. I am appalled that this poor behavior is tolerated at UT Southwestern. My initial impression of UT Southwestern was one of respect and admiration; however, since weve been interacting with the personnel over a period of months, I have revised my attitude. This place is just too big and has lost the individual consideration any medical facility should have as its highest priority.

I have been a patient in various departments of this institution for over 20 years. Because it is so large and there are so many doctors involved, the quality of any individual’s experience with certain departments and physicians within those departments can and will vary wildly especially over time.I can state emphatically that the billing and ease of understanding my bills from the hospitals and doctors within the UTSW system improved dramatically a few years ago after a very difficult upgrade to their billing system. The scheduling process has also improved. However, be aware that unless you have a physician referring you in, or you have one of the more life threatening conditions, your wait for an appointment with one of the doctors may take several weeks. This is a teaching and research institution and the doctors usually are “in clinic” for only a few hours a week because of their other responsibilities. As a result, it can sometimes be difficult to get in to see some of the doctors.I don’t like seeing Physicians Assistants or Nurse Practitioners because the complexity of my medical profile is such that most of them cannot handle my needs. However, to enable the doctors to be efficient with their time, it has been my experience that UTSW uses them extensively particularly in initial visits, surgical follow ups and in the emergency setting as part of their triage. I have come to accept it as a change in how medicine is being practiced as I see a similar pattern in other medical offices and hospitals I visit.Surgeries and medical departments I have used at UTSW and it’s related hospitals:PsychiatryOrthopedics - two knee replacementsBariatric surgerySpinal Clinic - lumbar spinal surgeryEndocrinologyNephrologyNeurologyNot every department or experience was perfect. However, overall, the quality of the care I have received was outstanding. Further, my length of time as a patient has enabled me to see how hard they work to always improve patient experience and care in light of the bureaucracy and processes necessary to keep an institution that size functioning. I am not affiliated with the school other than as a long time patient.

Called to see about getting an appointment to see a neurologist not even any specific one. First available appointment is 8 months from now.EIGHT MONTHS!!!!!In what way is this considered patient care? I am sure they have some fine doctors but something has gone terribly wrong with UT Southwestern if it takes 8 months to get a foot in the door.Aside from that, they wouldnt even schedule an appointment without a referral even though I have PPO insurance.

Came into emergency room @ 9:30/10 June 28 .My mother was dizzy and unstable and complaining of pain. A nurse assist her to the restroom. The nurse left her there. Apparently her name was called while she was stuck in the restroom,& the nurse never notified the clerks. I was outside showing a family member in. I then noticed the emergency room was emptying out and she hadnt been seen or called. I was then told that she was put all the way out of the system like she had left without treatment. It is now 3:00 am we are still waiting to be seen and she is extremely ILL. Smh. The health care system only cares about dollars no sense.!!!

Went here yesterday for my back seizing up to the point I couldnt walk. Waited for 6 and a half hours in the waiting room sitting which made my back hurt much worse. Was told by the front desk the doctors were too busy helping other patients to check my labs. One staff member tried to wheel me to an ultrasound and I had to argue with him to get him to realize it was for a woman with the same first name not me. When I got an actual room I was treated by a PA and her assistant, NOT an actual doctor. They wanted to discharge me without me ever seeing a doctor! I could go to PrimaCare to see a PA and not be stuck in the hospital the entire day. No one went over my labs with me and I had the same test done to my feet by two different people with no explanation. One of the staff recommended I go to the dollar store to buy patches for my back when I have insurance to cover the cost. Asked about back exercises and the same woman recommended searching YouTube. Asked to talk to a doctor and he came in with the PA treating me. It was obvious he wasnt interested in helping me just defending his coworker. He told me more than once about how doctors are educated...like that is the WHOLE reason I asked to speak with you, sir. Huge waste of time and energy.

Don’t ever ever ever have bloodwork from your doctor done at their labs. My dermatologist (who offices at UTSW) ordered routine blood work at the hospitals lab and I got a bill for over $1300 for a hospital visit. Just don’t ever get hurt like they have hurt me. Beware of this practice.

I had the most disappointing experience with UT Southwestern Ophthalmology and Dr. Thorne. This is going to be long, but the lack of care made me feel like this needs to be shared.I went in for an updated contact / glasses prescription - easy appointment in theory. When I received the prescription and went to fill it, I was told by 1-800 CONTACTS that the numbers written down weren’t even numbers that existed in the contact world. Also, everything should have been positive in my prescription was accidentally written down as a negative.I called numerous times to try and get this fixed. I left a ton of messages and it took so much effort to get someone on the phone to fix this issue. They sent in, what they claimed to be, the prescription they meant to write down to 1-800 CONTACTS. I received the new box of contacts and I couldn’t see anything out of them.I called (numerous times) again to update them that the prescription was still wrong in some way. They claimed, after looking at the prescription again, they could see what was wrong and could send in ANOTHER prescription to 1800 CONTACTS to try. I declined and said I wanted a sample pair from them and didn’t want to pay for another box of contacts that would be the wrong prescription. They agreed to this and said they would follow up.They never did – I never received a sample contact or even a phone call. I went home to CO for winter break and saw the Dr. I used to go to when I was living there. He did a whole new evaluation on me and found that the prescription given to me had a power of 2.5 too high. He said it was incredibly wrong and doesn’t understand how anyone would give me a prescription that high. To me, 2.5 off in the world of contacts was not within the margin of error and completely unacceptable.I called the office to request a refund for my services that they provided. I paid $225 for my visit and lost all of the money I spent at 1800 CONTACTS on incorrect lenses. After talking to them they said they totally agreed that this was unacceptable service, but that they would have to look into refunding me the money. They said they could potentially refund me the $37 for the cost of the prescription, but that the rest was considered exam fees. I explained that the office required the exam to get the prescription (I couldn’t have cared less about the eye imaging and all that) so, I felt that I was owed that money as well because I paid all of it solely to get a contact prescription.Bri Otto, the UT Southwestern office manager, said she would be contacting me concerning my refund and following up. This was almost 2 weeks ago. I have called back and left messages, but no contact has been made with me.I fully expect them to keep my money and move on since no one seems interested in fixing the issues they caused. I cannot warn people enough to NOT GO HERE. They are totally disorganized and not a reliable doctor’s office. You will lose money using these people. Even though the name sounds prestigious, this office is not run in a professional manner. Go somewhere else.
