Save your money parents. Biggest rip off in rehab. They sell you the concept with no follow thru. Its nothing but a SCAM and a waste of money! Spent over 20k/month with our son and pulled him after 6 weeks, total rip off.

I have been employed at New Directions for 4 years now and it has been such a wonderful learning & growing experience.New Directions truly cares about both its clients and employees, with good wages and benefits and a clean, comfortable work environment. Our managers are very helpful and are always helping to ensure that we meet and exceed the expectations of our clients. Employees are also encouraged to engage and learn about our students: where they come from, who they are, what their goals and hobbies are and so on. We never want to be considered a “facility”, we prefer the idea of being a family; Some of the doctors prefer a first name basis with the clients and staff to keep a more relaxed feel.Everyone does a little bit of everything, which keeps with the family-like feel of our company, creating unity. Someone is always willing to lend a hand whether it is providing assistance with an office deadline, or to drive a client to the dentist with a bad toothache. The program also offers training and continuing education courses in various psychologies and the behavioral science field, so growth is very much encouraged. Weekly meeting are held to keep staff informed of everything going on, so no one is ever out of the loop or confused. Our doors are always open for our clients and we always have at least two people on call for any emergencies; Nobody is ever truly alone, someone is always just a phone call away. All in all, I have never seen so many people go above and beyond in a company, doing what is necessary to get the job done. I have loved my time here at New Directions and look forward to another 4 years.

As a parent of a young adult in the New Directions program, I simply want to say how completely satisfied I am with the program of New Directions for Young adults. Most of the young adults that are at ND are incredibly difficult to deal with. They have multiple issues and the staff is very adept at dealing with them, particularly the clinical directors. Absolutely every phone call I have made has been responded to and every question answered. Success for this type of program has many measures. I measure success as the ability of my young man to live independently and increase his decision making skill to where he will be able to support himself. I am confident that with the direction of Dr.s Rubin, Kellen and Harris and other staff, that this will happen. They have provided consistent and structured behavior management while offering my son the independence he so desires.

New Directions is a very helpful place that has helped me stabilize my life. They have smart, kind and patient employees. They helped me discover why i had issues and help me become a more productive member of society. The 7 months I spent here was a very good learning experience for me, not just by helping me learn about myself, but also by helping me get back into school and helping me get an internship in a field of work that I love. I give New Directions for Young Adults two big thumbs up and recommend that anyone looking for a place that will help you grow as a productive person to go and talk to them.

Dr Drew Rubin and the team at New Directions for Young Adults are dedicated professionals committed to working with a special group of young men and women, including their families. There are many great programs out there for kids with Autism. I believe that Dr Rubin and New Directions stands out above the rest. Dr Rubin and his team are invested with their entire heart. Integrity and transparency is very important to this program, and you see that in everything they do. It has been a sincere pleasure to work with New Directions.

Being in the program is not that bad at first but than it has its ups and downs such as having bad staff . If you send your young adult here there are some other adults who seem to be nice in the begging but than turn their back on you. I know this from experience while being here for about five months now. There are also good people such as mentors and some students. I have made some awesome friends here that i will be staying in touch with when i get out of the program.

As a recent board member of Dr. Rubins charity, International Society for Autism, I was able to see first hand the commitment and dedication that he and his team at New Directions have in achieving important life changing results for all program participants. They are dedicated to providing leading edge, research-based treatment to help each person in the areas where they require the most care. It is an impressive program.

I’ve often heard that because of my developmental disabilities I must work harder to succeed. Hard work is a good start, but smart work seems to be smarter. I am a member of the International Society for Autism (ISA - Dr. Rubins non-profit) and a client of New Directions and these programs helped me learn how to work smarter. While working in a group setting to organize events with the ISA, communication is key as is responsibility and reliability. I used my experience there along with vocational counseling through New Directions to find and hold a job in the area. I was actually surprised with how well I was prepared to acclimate to the retail work environment. I’m very proud of the progress I’ve made and I can’t deny the role that these two programs had in helping me along.

My big brother is in this program and they just helped him graduate from college. He did such a great job. It makes me so happy! They had tutors that helped him in all of his classes and i know that made a big difference. This program has really changed his life.

Great staff! I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Kellen and Dr. Remek and all the staff, They are amazing caring and professional and our family and son luv the center. Dr. Kellen has helped our young son deal with issues common with kids on the spectrum and has helped us understand how to make positive change. Dr. Kellen is Professional, caring and funny and is able to get through walls my son had put up in order to help him by making therapy a fun and positive experience. Through their therapy my son feels cared about and empowered to overcome fears and anxieties even overcoming a textural eating disorder that we have struggled with his whole life. We feel blessed to have found this center . With the help he has received, Dr. Kellen has already turned our sons life around and made unimaginable positive changes and we have only begun to utilize the help and guidance from this center.

It is with great pleasure that I write about our experience with New Directions for Young Adults. New Directions has given us so much help for our eighteen year old daughter. We moved to Florida from New Jersey in 2008. We had spent many years taking our daughter to counseling trying to get her help for her depression, anxiety and extreme social difficulties. She was always very bright and achieved in academics and sports, but was never able to make a friend, share her thoughts with peers and struggled terribly when having to interact with others. When we came to Florida, we again sought out help. We were looking for programs, knowing that it may be out of state, we planned to arrange for her to go during Christmas break. It was only by accident that we found New Directions and it was near our home. We live in Parkland. I phoned New Directions and immediately I was offered support. The staff member, who realized how much discomfort we were in, arranged for us to come in for an intake that day. We met with the entire therapeutic staff and each member displayed true concern, and support. Each member was professional, but what impressed us most was how non-judgmental they were. Our daughter felt comfortable and that was the most important thing of all. Our daughter, with the guidance of New Directions, is learning to talk more with others even though it is difficult for her. She is working on managing her anxiety and this is easing her depression. She will be attending college in the Fall and this would have not been possible without all the love and support of the staff at New Directions for Young Adults. We feel blessed that we were able to have our daughter be a part of their program and that they even exist.

In light of a few fraudulent reviews I’ve recently read concerning Dr. Rubin and New Directions for Young Adults, Inc, I find myself compelled to speak out on behalf of the program and its founder. Dr. Rubin and I have been friends for over twenty years; starting out as co-workers in the investment banking field in the early nineties. When I say people could not be more wrong to infer that “he’s only concerned with making money,” it’s not because I’m trying to cover for a colleague (which, let’s face it, is natural to do), but because his professional history is a testament to his objective. Which is to help others. As I noted, Dr. Rubin and I met at an investment bank; and while I “followed the money,” like the majority of bankers interested in acquiring incomes that far-exceed those of blue-collar workers, (all while keeping their fingernails clean), Mr. Rubin opted to go back to school and get his PHD in clinical psychology. Now being from a middle-class family, with three older sisters, Dr. Rubin wasn’t able to draw on a trust fund to put himself through Grad school. He worked odd jobs (bartending, waiting tables, teaching tennis to senior citizens) to finance his advanced education and keep a roof over his head while directing his major focus on the grueling curriculum he had to undertake, for what seemed like endless years, in order to get licensed.Had he been motivated by money, it would have been infinitely easier for him to just ride the cash-cow, gravy-train of Wall Street to the holy grail of opulent net worth; instead of spending his evenings taking dinner orders after a full day of classes, then going back to his cramped, one-room apartment and studying to the wee hours of the morning. Yes, he could have done what many “masters of the universes” did: Stayed in the industry, gotten rich, and spent his money on over-priced boats and high-end automobiles. Of course I embellish (slightly), but only to get my point across. No one leaves the fast-track to riches in order to struggle the way Dr. Rubin did to get his PHD, unless they are driven by an ulterior motive. His motive was to help people. So to those acid-tongued reviewers claiming money is his motivation, his history would seem to indicate otherwise. As for the program Dr. Rubin created: New Directions for Young Adults; about to complete its tenth year in business, its longevity alone speaks wonders about the purity of its objective. The program is meant to assist young adults acclimate to society. It is not a boarding school, or correctional institution, where parents send their out-of-control adolescents because they can’t deal with them anymore. True, students attend the program mainly at their parent’s request, but it is only a request. The students visit the facilities, meet the staff, and ultimately decide to attend the program of their own volition. Although I’m sure there are an abundance of case-studies that support this theory, it doesn’t take a psychology degree to concur that persons who voluntarily enter help programs tend to do better than those who are forced to.Now, can New Directions guarantee total satisfaction for everyone who walks through its doors? Of course not. Any program that does is lying, and one would do well to avoid it at all costs. But what New Directions does guarantee, is that everyone who enters the program will receive the utmost effort and dedication of its staff (from their licensed clinicians, to their “big-brother” type mentors), to help them leave the program better prepared to face the world than when they entered it. And in a nutshell, isn’t that the objective of every program designed to help people?

I am so grateful that that we found New Directions for young adults for my son Justin. It was a big transition for Justin but the staff was dedicated to help him adjust to the program. New Directions helped my son graduate from high school and they offered him tutoring on site. NDFYA doctors are so committed to helping their students. I know because my son had some challenges in his life and Dr. Andrew Rubin was there to help us. He made a strategic plan to help my son and was 100% committed to helping Justin. I can see in Dr. Rubins eyes the concern for the well being for my son and all the students at NDFYA. The staff follows in Dr. Rubins footsteps and they show sincere concern about your child. Jackie and Dr. Michael Kellen have gone the extra 10 miles for my son Justin. I am thankful my son is going to school here and I have hope my sons future looks positive because of NDFYA.

I have known Dr. Rubin as a friend and colleague for almost 20 years. I can state without any reservations that Dr. Rubin is an excellent psychologist, and his commitment to the patients he serves and his integrity in doing so is unquestioned. He provides a much needed service for young adults and their families, and I have seen firsthand the exceptional level of service he provides. Beyond that, his participation in research, his work as a member of the State of Florida Board of psychology, and his charitable work on behalf of young adults with autism spectrum disorders are a great service to our profession and the community in general.Brian Leahy, Ph.D., ABPPBoard Certified in Clinical NeuropsychologyDirector of Neuropsychological ServicesAlexian Brothers Neurosciences Institute
