If you want to learn to dance, stop scrolling. Black Belt Salsa and Edie Williams will teach you what you need to know in an easy, fun, social and super effective way. We look forward to weekly group lessons and all the parties that come along with them as it gives us a great, non-intimidating way to practice what we learn each week. Private lessons are even better as Edie literally takes a 360 degree approach to each couple, completely understanding their skill level, experience, fears and goals. She’s equal parts dance coach and life and relationship coach. There is no man or woman who can’t feel completely at ease and ready to learn in her presence. Stop scrolling, you’ve found the dance instruction you were looking for.

Black belt salsa canceled the booked event after long communication and correspondence due to the event taking place on the grassy fields outdoors during covid. In their contract they clearly state, if the dance floors are not smooth we just need to let them know so the dancers wear different type of footwear but they decided this was not even O.K after they committed to us. They also mentioned bringing their not good speakers to the dance event due to being outdoors. They wanted to us book their DJ service as well but it would be too loud in residential outdoor space for the duration of their service, as they mentioned the sound will blast all the way to the end of the street and they seemed to not be keen on keeping their dance performance commitment due to not booking that. They asked how much our friend paid her dance performers for another outdoor event that I mentioned we attended which I neither had the information nor did I think was appropriate to ask. They also reduced the number of their offered dance performances from 3 to up to 2 with the same price after booking. Unreliable company and now we have to scramble to find another vendor. Save yourself some time and look elsewhere.

I discovered BBS for myself about 10 months ago. And Tuesday is my favorite day of the week ever since! Black Belt system consists of step by step instructions and different levels (belts). Once you completed all the classes in one level, you can test out and transfer to the next one. This way you perfect every move. Last Tuesday of every month there is a Dress to Impress party, and about once a month or so, there is an event, like Masquerade, Halloween, wear all white Christmas, Valentines day, St. Patricks Day etc., when everyone can have some extra FUN! After the class there is always dinner consisting of various dishes including fresh fruit and veggies, and social dancing so everyone can practice the moves they learned. Occasionally Edie does workshops on Sundays, ex.g. Ladies Styling, Spinning workshop, bootcamp for beginners etc. All great workshops to attend. Quite often Edie also invites dancers, performers, other instructors from other schools, musicians to teach her students about different aspects of dance as an art. BBS is also a fabulous SOCIAL event, that makes you forget about your work, stimulates your brain, burns calories, helps you meet lots of amazing people not only from Denver, but from all over the world!

We took private classes with Edie and the only thing I can say is that she is the best salsa instructor ever! She is very professional, dances like a queen and has a fantastic system that she invented to teach beginners or advanced dancers. I forgot to mention how much patience she has and on top of everything she is a lot of fun. She is the right instructor if you need to learn salsa and I promise you that after the classes youll be able to dance and have fun dancing.

I have always been a fan of Salsa music and always hoped to be able to dance it one day; unlike Latinos, I did not have the chance to learn walking and Salsa dancing as a baby; all I could is do is looking with envy at these talented people dancing Salsa as it would be the easiest and simplest thing to do, which is not.Salsa is one of the most difficult dance to learn. My wife and I decided to take private lessons, spending thousands of dollars on Salsa teachers who taught us single steps but after many months, we were still not able to dance.Edie the Salas Freak is the teacher of the teachers, not only because she is an incredibly talented Salsa dancer but because she spent a great amount of time collecting and classifying all the hundred Salsa moves into different levels called belts, like in Judo.Starting from easy (white belt), every single level has a structure, a perfectly organized system designed to help laypeople to become dancers and good dancers to reach the next higher level of perfection.Basically, each level has its graphic panel, explaining in a systematic way the different moves, classified in clusters, like high hands, shoulders etc. but also a video where Edie demonstrates and explains each move. You just need to look and select what you want or need, pretty much like a vending machine. This is exactly what we needed. We flew from sunny Florida to freezing Denver CO to spend 5 days @ 6 hours each with Edie. She is a marvelous personality who has tons of patience not only for explaining how to dance following her system but also to make out of you a good-looking dancer. That is not an easy task because knowing the technique does not make you a good dancer; I had to learn how to lead, making my partner understand what my next move is, based on my posture which was basically bad.To correct it was a big challenge.Edie is so professional showing patience that I would never be able to.A video made on the first and the last day shows the difference like night and day.I am now sitting in the plane on my way back to Florida. Not only we can dance Salsa but we have Edie’s system to improve what we learned with her, practicing 10 minutes a day, we will get much better.

I brought my husband to try out this class. This was our first although we can dance. However, when it comes to this dance class it was a whole new world. It’s not that easy but it’s not that hard as a beginner. We really liked our beginner teacher Jesse!!! We are very busy working but inspired to take those dance classes when we travel on vacation ... you know the ones offered as a resort activity!! We were asked to sit on the floor at one point to hear the explanation of the class curriculum. That’s the reason for 4 stars. Is this worth your time? YES! It was also a great date night!

I recently purchased Edie’s collection of DVD’s and while I am still working my way through them I am very impressed with the content. It is great to not only pick up things seemingly left and right, but also, it is nice to see similar content from different sources which is great for reference and helpful in becoming a well-rounded dancer. In dealing with a few issues which were self-inflicted for the most part, Edie was awesome in wearing her customer support hat and in having worked in that area in the past, good customer service is something that I greatly appreciate.Regarding both the content and customer service, I don’t think that I could recommend her products enough. I am very happy that Edie has had the foresight and motivation to produce her various DVD’s and hope that she continues to do so. Five stars from me, hands down.

I recently returned to black belt salsa after traveling around the world for the past couple of years to thank Edie for her salsa program. BBS really taught me the fundamentals of how to dance, allowing me to be adaptable to any style of dance as I danced with varying levels of dancers worldwide due to the fact that she really ingrains in you the foundation of salsa dancing - posture, tension, footing, styling, rhythm / musicality, how to lead / follow. I have now taken classes all over and none of them pay attention to the before mentioned - they only focus on the steps and simple choreography. Knowing the steps without the foundations of salsa dancing or understanding how to connect with the music doesnt get you far in dance and makes it less enjoyable for your dance partner. Im infinitely grateful to Edie and Black Belt Salsa.

While looking for a way to grow my dance skills, I struggled with the popular teaching method of learning dance patterns. I would learn a dance pattern one week, then pick up the next part of the pattern the following week and so on. I suffer from severe Adult ADHD which makes remembering certain skills in the long term challenging. It also means I tend to be spontaneous. I may not follow the assigned pattern exactly in class.Black Belt Dance (BBD) has a different teaching philosophy. Family of Movements. For example, we learn and teach 92 different ways to lead a turn in a systematic head to toe process. That alone captured my heart. I learned to structure our dance to the music according to the skill level of my partner and myself. The level of detail taught increased as I advanced. I never stop learning to be clearer, smoother, and more technical.Due to the techniques and level of detail learned in this system, I am often sought out by leads and follows at dance socials. I would have given up long ago had I been forced to learn the most common way of teaching.5 Stars from the bottom of my heart.

I love her personality and the way she has designed BBD to make learning easy for anyone that wants to dance. As an instructor (apprentice) I find the curriculum very well put together and easy to follow. You dont have to bring anything to the table other than your willingness to learn how to teach and your love for dance. Edie does all the hard work for you every step of the way. She gives you all the tools you need to have a profitable business and have fun doing it. If you get confused or just need encouragement shes always there. This is a very complete and well-thought out system for learning Salsa dance in the two most popular linear styles (L.A. style and New York style). There are eight or so different levels taught concurrently in small groups, so dancers at all skill levels can advance through the various levels (labeled by belt colors.) Some of the best Salsa dancers youll see at the clubs in Denver have come up through this program. Its a very friendly environment with a fun social after the classes. No partner is necessary, because students rotate during the class. However, if you want to bring your sweetie, that works too. The facility is among the biggest dance ballrooms in Colorado - the floor is excellent, and there is plenty of room in the well-lit parking lot.

Ever feel physically and socially awkward on the dance floor? Want an activity to do with your significant other? Don’t have a significant other but want to dance? Love learning new things? Want to get over being super shy with the opposite gender? For all these reasons and more, try Black Belt Salsa. It’s a group class in one big room; you start off with a whole group lesson but then it breaks into smaller groups of different levels so you’re learning with other people that know just as much or as little as you. After class there’s a social dance where everyone can dance with whomever, plus FOOD included with your lesson. It can feel chaotic at first, but both instructors and regular students can help you feel more comfortable if you talk to them. Edie, the creator of this school, is an amazing woman who has performed and taught at more places than I can ever remember to name; she’s incredibly welcoming and tries hard to make this class the best that she can.You don’t need to bring a partner, the instructors are friendly, the atmosphere is casual, amicable, and fun. The system is very kind to shy and awkward people, and dancing for a few hours is great low impact exercise. Salsa teaches you to be mindful of your posture, which can help alleviate neck and back pain (I’m serious!). Plus a good dash of added confidence once you get your steps down and actually feel like you’re dancing, which doesn’t take as long as you might think. If you’re a natural dancer or know salsa already there are people in class or social that are really very good and even perform, so I don’t think you’ll get bored. Salsa has a LOT of different moves and there’s so much room for creativity and self-expression that you can spend a long time learning and honing your craft if you want to move beyond the basic steps. Edie has a great eye for technical skills and has really good ways of explaining these moves. Salsa sexy has the guys feel masculine but always a gentleman, and the ladies get to be feminine while staying classy. Im telling you, it looks suuuuuper good, and it feels awesome. They also have dress up events, and their parties are a blast! This class has given me much more than moving my feet in time with music. It is therapeutic for me with some good life lessons and I am one of the happy students eager to share this joy.

Edie is not only a great instructor, but also a very nice and warm person. The atmosphere here feels like a family. After group lesson they have social dancing, at the same time dinner is provided, usually pizza and a vegetables and fruits. If you are a beginner looking for a place to start learning Salsa(they teach a little bit of Bachata and Merengei too), its a percent place to go to.
