Rise focuses on Restorative Justice in their consequence system. For example, instead of suspension, students are expected to speak in front of the community and explain what their wrong was and why they should be allowed back into the community. Rise is connected to the STRIVE PREP network. With that, the administration is constantly checking on students to make sure they feel safe and comfortable in and out school hours. The staff is constantly making efforts to connect classes. All the teachers have and share the experience of their college life. It really gives insight when the teacher reveals the beauty and ugly of attending a university. There is a lot of diversity, which allows students with little experience of the outside world to get an insight of other experiences. With all benefits comes drawbacks. Classes are not as advanced as your average high school simply because there is no one to sponsor or teach that class/club. Yet with clubs, students are constantly encouraged to become more involved with clubs or extracurricular activities. With Rise being a brand new high school (holding only 9th and 10th-grade classes as of the 2017-2018 school year), it, naturally, lacks school culture. Dances and Proms are usually shared with neighbouring school KIPP due to funding and attendance. With being a new school, however, comes the natural attention from everyone in the Denver community. For example, Rise has gotten many visits from Denver government officials. Whether it be to talk to students directly or just see the building, they are all impressed with what Rise has to offer. In the 2017 School Performance Framework, the comprehensive measure of annual school performance. STRIVE Prep – RISE, in its first year, received 92% of the possible points, earning a blue or distinguished school rating and is the #1 ranked high school in all of Denver. There is a lot of potential for students at Rise. In field trips, Rise often goes to colleges in the nearby areas to see what they have to offer. All in all, Rise is a great school considering its launch off.
