Wade Gillum was very professional and very nice and did a fantastic job for my high and tight. I recommend him and the barber college for anybody looking for a cheap hair cut. Also they might be students but they work their butts off to be the best of the best.

I got a great haircut from Kokou for $10. He’s very meticulous and listens to what you want. You can ask for him by name.

I went in with a haircut that I absolutely hated and even worse Ihad tried to fix it myself. To be honest it had been a long time since I actually loved my hair. I decided to give this a shot because I knew they have instructors right there to assist and figured they would be more likely to be familiar with current trends. I was so not disappointed. Not only did Mackenzie fix my mess even better than I had hoped he gave me product and styling advice and low and behold today I actually like me hair! Even better I have gotten several compliments on it! Thank you for saving me from cutting it all off!!!!

Ive never reviewed before but what happened yesterday has had an affect. My grandson and I went in for haircuts. Seemed a good place, nice people etc. Then it came time to pay and one of the instructors, a Mexican woman, checked me out and charged me what should have been for 2 haircuts but turned out to be over $40. I asked her why so much??? She said that my grandsons cutter used a flat iron on his hair. What?!?!? No one said anything to me about a flat iron. We just wanted haircuts. I felt cheated out of $20. She didnt care. Just took my money. Im just saying, dont be cheated like I was. By the way, we were very happy with the haircuts ( as expensive as they were).

The salon was recommended to me by a friend. I took a look at their website before booking my appointment and went in with very high expectations. I was not disappointed! The salon is gorgeous, very clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly, accommodating and very knowledgeable. I will definitely be back. I highly recommend them.

I have gotten my haircut here for a few years and in general the place is what you expect. They are students that are providing haircuts to learn. Expect it to take longer than great clips, could be up to 60 minutes in the chair. They do have professors that check their work and I have never left feeling unsatisfied. The balance to time of course is price and these are cheap, Tuesday is half priced cuts and very busy along with Saturday. I recommend finding a student you like and going back to them each time. I have heard grumblings from the students that the owners are not the best leaders, remember this is for-profit school and they are the only facility in the Metro to get an education at. Im sure the students feel there are improvements to be made by the owners and I feel the owners could invest in the facility to modernize it/ clean it up.

Recommended. I went to American College of Hairstyling to get my hair treated and I had a wonderful result. I recommend you to come to this location to experience great service. They were very respectful. Got there at 4:30pm on the dot and they advised were only taking haircuts until 4:30pm. I got off work early to get there in time. Been coming there for 50 years but will no longer be doing business with you. Ive been settling for substandard haircuts too long. Found a new barber that does a quality cut and treats me respectfully.

Very ghetto! Wouldn’t recommend for students or staff. Very unprofessional and unorganized. Went to the school and they were closed the students were there but the staff wasn’t and didn’t let them know. Came back a few days later and the instructor Ashley was very rude verbally abusive. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE

I have been trying to reach the director of this establishment for days now. My son was there for a hair cut on last Thursday and to days later I noticed white puss-bumps on the back of his head. I called and called my next step is to go down there and confront them. They need to clean there equipment better than they have because its from getting a hair cut with dirty equipment. I will never take anyone else to this place and Im calling the health inspector on them to shut them down!

Great place to get a haircut of any kind, youll receive a haircut from a student who already has a good idea of what they are doing. Also the prices are discounted because these cuts and colors are for a learning experience.

Great experience! Guy cutting my hair was very detailed with my fade and looks great at an affordable price! Will be going back.

This place is great. Fun atmosphere, cool people, and great deals. Students are focused and passionate about what they are doing and satisfying the customer. I think I found my barber going forward

One word: CORRUPT. The WORST school for various reasons. They should be shut down but for the sake of aspiring barbers in the city I won’t report them to the state. They treat their students like slaves. The owners Mr. and Mrs. Millis are MONSTERS. They use power and manipulation to get their way and steal money from students because they know they hold the cards due the fact that they are the only barber college in the Des Moines area. If you do go there please tip the student in cash otherwise they will steal that too. Appreciate your barber because they had to go through hell in this place to make it out and achieve their dreams.

Called to make appointment for cut and color, they said no appointments, only walk ins. I drive there, very unimpressed by outside of building. Looks very run down. I walk in and say I want a cut and color and he says I need an appointment after I was just told they dont take appointments! Inside looked just as dingy so I just walked out. Might be good place for simple hair cut but would not recommend for anything else.

I WAS trying to become a student here. However, I have emailed them no more than three times. (No response) When I call (if they decide to answer) the people are rude and/or lack knowledge of the school.

I told the lady I just wanted a line up on my beard. I have been growing it for a year come November and never had it trimmed. She goes to line up my beard and I feel the Clippers on my beard. Her response was I am getting the long hairs. I didnt tell you to do that.A lot of memories as been cut off. Because you thought you was doing me a favor.

Easily the worst haircut I’ve ever had barber totally disregarded what I asked for and basically buzzed half my head.

Fantastic staff and students, the students are great at making you comfortable and i always get so many compliments after getting my hair cut at American College of Hairstyling.The director of the school has really taken the College to a new level and the students are very knowledgeable and talented.

Tried to get my sons hair cut and they told me they stopped taking people at 4 because they were so overwhelmed. When we arrived at 4:10 and nobody was there except the students. If you get overwhelmed easily I would suggest you pick a different occupation. The day before school starts is expected to be a little busy.

Hate this place. All of the workers there are ghetto, and took my picture without permission.Great haircuts, though.

No doubt about it, best mens cut in Des Moines for the price. Real talent that should be $30 a cut. Instead its $8 or sometimes $6.

If rate this about a3 and a half the people are great its just sometimes they need a reminder from there specialist

Been going here since I was alittle kid. Got my haircut today and told them an few inches and mid shoulder blade length when I got done it was above shoulders and the guy that was checking the students literally started collecting my hair as they cut it. Never coming back.

Aboslutly aweful place!!!! They told me I had lice and I went to a Dr and turns out its dandruff!! They need to get their craps together And learn the difference! I would never ever reccomend anyone there. I am pregnant Nd they told me to use pesticides! THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!!

I was there today at 1145 no one waiting to get a haircut several barbers walking around playin with each other my name was the only one on the list barbers were going out 2 and 3 times to smoke finally left the place at 1215 will not ever go back not like it used to be at all

Went in for a trim after battling with these haters about my hair. The dark skinned girl refused to help me but interfered with the cut as the guy got started. She intentionally cut my hair into split ends and told me I had a ball spot. Whatever never! Is it something about light skinned females?...😱
