During the 1st year my child was there it seemed ok. Then COVID hit & virtual learning started... my child 2nd year there was totally virtual teachers seemed to nit pick with students, turn over rate was high with teachers

Mr. Crosby was one of the greatest teachers at DAAS. He taught us with confidence and integrity. He has taught every one of those students black cultural history and taught us what was going on in the world that we needed to hear.

I think the school is a wonderful institution of education for children. The staff their is a group of exceptionally talented, loving and unconditional giving people our young people could ever encounter. The patient and passion they have for the job they do is just truly amazing and I want my grandchildren to become students at this school of excellence. I will be seeing you all in the fall. I give this school a 1 star rating because....1. there is always drama. A fight breaks out every day !2. The school has bed bugs ! there have been three incidents where a bed bug was spotted twice in one year !3. the staffing isn’t well at all. The principals hire bad teachers. some of them can’t control their classes nor teach !those aren’t even half the reasons but I’m fine with this because I’m leaving daas ASAP! I do not recommend this school !

Throughout the 7+ years I’ve attended this school, I can honestly say I hate this school with a passion. They’re INFESTED with bedbugs, Some teachers don’t know how to control their class which leads to students having their time being wasted because a teacher is busy attempting to calm down a class. The lunch is trash, but at least it’s free. This school is very unorganized and doesn’t know how to get information to parents and students correctly which leads to alot of confusion.The bathroom is NASTY, they try to hide the fact that their bathrooms aren’t clean by “cleaning” them once in a while but after a few months of school they become dirty and stinky again. They give horrible students with bad behavior chance after chance, and don’t do anything but suspend them when they should be trying to get rid of them completely so kids who want to learn can. And lastly the environment of this school will definitely leave a bad influence on your child. Kids cuss up a storm and are always fighting. This isn’t even the half of it, there is so many more things I can say about this school but this review would be an entire essay. If you want better for your child, I’M TELLING YOU DON’T SEND THEM HERE! I can honestly say public schools are better than this.

Im a student there and I feel like teachers dont teach good enough

The dress code is great.my son Reads so much better because of this school.Most importantly Mrs.Sheets is the best 2nd grade teacher not only that she cares works hard just a wonderful teacher.Also Mrs.Osbourne great kindergarten teacher she is also caring hard working.both teachers are very involved.I havent got to meet the teachers this year but they must be great too.very nice school we will miss it.

I feel that this is not a great school but if you are in the inner city of Detroit it is one of your best options. Now, cons for placing your child in DAAS is the parking, the teachers do not communicate well NOT ALL BUT SOME (we expect a update everyday, now this may not bother you!) I felt that the focused too much on the music class, than they did any other class. The students that attend DAAS are from some ruff neighborhoods and they can influence your child that may not be exposed to things such as sex, drugs, and malevolent influence music. The kids seem to have a lot of free time epically on Fridays when school is dismissed at 1:30pm, the school claims that cutting some breaks short and making the school year longer makes up for the hours and I agree, but they are not learning.

I attend this school and it is very big and fun we have dances and everything! Im in the 6th grade and all of my teachers are very nice and help me with my work. :)

I saw a guy and girl having sexual intercourse in the copy room. The teachers are terrible and there are always fights. The principal curse around students and a lady office smells like weed. DONT let your kids go here. UPDATE 2019: At this point teachers don’t even care about teaching and they blame it on us, you have to make a kid be ready to learn. They also sneak diss about students and they don’t respect us and like I said last year even more sex is going on at this school and they got bed bugs🤦🏽‍♂️

Former Governor Jennifer Granholm posted the HAPPY on her Facebook page and I absolutely LOVE the group of students performing this song. I watch it at least once a day.The students are absolutely adorable and serve as a wonderful example to other kids their age.

DO NOT send your kids to this school. As a student, i believe this school is filled with a bunch of staff who don’t care. Reason 1, if you’re a parent and you have to get in contact with your child after school, you can’t. The middle school principal banned all phones, students can’t even have phones on the premises. Once, i witnessed a male teacher go through a girl’s purse to her edge control out. Would you like a grown man going through your daughter’s belongings? Reason 2, staff members (teachers specifically) don’t know how to teach kids, or control them. The teachers cuss under their breath and talk about students. Also, this school is infested with bedbugs. Lots and lots of bullying goes on and the teachers have 1 meeting with the kids and pretend that a 3-day suspension and phone call home stops bullying. It doesn’t! The school lunch isn’t great at all. Lunch ladies have attitudes when we go up to get our tray and we look at it any type of way. Once, i’ve gotten a COLD patty, and pink chicken. Teachers taunt the kids, and then call home when they retaliate.

Daas is a good school but the staff and instructors are the real problem.First Mrs. STOWALL (dance instructor) closed the door in my face , literally while i was trying to speak with her about my daugther. Very rude and unprofessional. Secondly Ms. BRYANT (records) she has a nasty attitude also and is unprofessional. It took me 3 months of messages and i had to literally hunt her down to get my daugther transcripts. Worse experience ever when it came to getting a hold of her transcripts. Thirdly Coach BANKHEAD (cheer coach) needs to get trained on how to run a cheer team. Especially learn to type up permission slips, games and locations. Because texting info is not for sure. She always had an excuse the whole season. Why she didnt make any claendars for the girls. It happened over and over again. Daas alone was the worst experience that ive ever had when it comes to school. My daugther spent one year at daas and she is now gone. To a better professional school. I hope things change there. Oakland university needs to be aware of the bs.

This school is better than WCS Carter Middle School.

Just terrible & unorganized, period. My personal complaints as a parent would be best set upon the ears of the school director & Gov. Snyder. My daughter will not be returning this school year.
