This school isn’t the best , i feel that the staff are very lazy and are just there for the money , the only good staff that is there is mr.wiz , ms.b , and mr.wade , the student specialist acts like she has all the power and is very strict , im not saying it is a bad thing but she even assigned us seats at lunch!. She doesn’t want us having fun and literally suspends us for anything. If you have any other schools i DO NOT recommend this one .

This year the school has make virtual learning a difficult mission. The survey for virtual learning was sent out by email 24 of Aug and closed the same day at 5 pm. If you missed the Survey you can not participate. If you by chance did fill out the survey there will be no teacher. Theyre very sneaky. Forcing you to participate in in-class learning with this pandemic. I have a feeling its going to be problematic.

Ghetto school, incompetent staff, lacking in basic features of a normal HS

Great school and with things being put on the internet Im able to keep up with my son each day. My older kids went there and there are a lot of teachers still there! Parent participation is the key to any school and they seem to have it here.

This school is honestly the worst school. You never know when things are because they do things at last minute. It never runs smoothly because they dont have time to prepare. The teachers are always leaving so its hard to adjust to a new teacher. Since I am a senior I need recommendations and thats hard when all my teachers are gone. Its dirty, it has bugs everywhere. The classrooms are better than they were last couple years since we have new custodians. The food is somewhat decent. They always talk about getting you prepared for college but never talk about staying in college. They may have a high graduation rate but whats the rate for kids staying in college. Also they never can return calls at all, but can send out a phone blast everyday.The only good thing about the school is the few teachers that have been here for 3 years, and the Dean. Other than that its not a good school overall.

Highly unorganized. I am often left in the dark about things that would have helped my academics and social betterment but due to the last minute planning, I was not able to use such opportunities. I mean sure the high school teachers are getting good but as a senior i think its very inconvenient that they just now got all these good teachers after 3 years of getting rid of the originally good ones. Only benefit of staying at the high school is the fact that I received a scholarship upon entry and got free SAT tutoring.

I am very disappointed in this school. The staff is very unprofessional and are liars. Ms. Franklin, who is in charge of registration, informed me she will let me know soon if my daughter will be accepted to the school a week ago and I still havent heard from Ms. Franklin. School started today and still nothing. Luckily I had a plan b and didnt wait for this school. No one never picks up the phone or returns phone calls. It shouldnt be so hard to get in contact with an administrator. I always hear the curriculum is good but the staff needs some work. Now I understand!!!

I feel that the school have no control over the 2nd grade. Now thats a same. Those children are so rude. The curriculum is not at the top of the class. If I had the power I will grade this school a C. This school did not talked about Martin Luther King, thats cold blooded.

I have a daughter currently attending pre-K here and also another child and third-grade the teachers hasbeen extremely helpful. my third-grader had have some issues with other students in the classroom and the teacher let her call me with no problem normally I just ask for her seat to be moved but than her teacher informed me that shes not leaning how to deal with her issues which to made sense. They are preparing them to be college ready and that was another thing that I loved about this school! Yes they are a little strict but I also love a discipline structured school! Very diverse your best school option if you live in Detroit, MI.

Not the best school of choice and certainly not the best to put your student in. The teachers in this academy can be great teachers who can help you and actually motivate you to learn and others who are insensitive to students and dont really engage with the class.Certain Science teachers are clearly unorganized and it shows that it hinders the students and their grades. Theyre really strict when it comes to bathroom rules and it seems to be the end of the rule if you make a silly mistake(no school shoes,not wearing tie,etc...).We didnt even have a teacher and just went to the computer lab every last hour. DEPSA is not the best school and if you have more options,I dont suggest this.

I have attended DEPSA since k-8, and education wise it is a perfect fit for a child. Its diverse, challenges students, and has engaged instructor. But as any school or gathering of people the older the more issues behavior and conductive progression. The Junior Academy principal does not address bullying or any personal problems that affect the educational environment. Also the school have struggled with constant teacher employment/attendance. Teacher come and go, leaving students with time unused. There arent any nor many violent situations, and they are resolved quickly and accordingly. DEPSA is a school for your child to have a foundation in their education, to learn the basics on math&ela.

It has an amazing band and the the staff are excellent they got me to HarvardThis is a excellent school

Dont come to this school half of the staff only here to make money.

I give them credit for a great learning experience and getting me where I am, but I have been here for 7 years and I cannot wait to leave

This school is getting boring now that all the fun teachers left except for Mr. Paige and Ms. Smith the learning is beneficail but the ways and the rules just get in the way of how fun learning can be

Sorry to say this school hasnt done nothing but create problems and a difficult learning environment for my child. Since Sept 2016 my childs teacher has changed twice from September 2016 to January 2017. The parents dont get any notice of change in the classroom, theyll make sure they call you if they feel your child isnt dressed in uniform. (ridiculous) but wont let you know your childs teacher quit or got let go. I feel its very unfair to the students that they cant continue with there curriculum do to them having a substitute teacher coming in everyday to watch the children until the principle finds another teacher. All of the other kindergarten class students are learning and being taught, while my child class is watching movies all day. Unfortunately I cant wait until this school year is over so I can put her in a much smaller school where the teachers are present for work and a place where its not 35 students in a class. Let me not fail to mention you will not be able to call the school and get to speak with your childs teacher if you was to have an emergency no matter what extension you dial nobody will answer or call you back. I really regret spending money on uniforms, my time and my childs time.

Ive been in the school from 5-8 th grade and I can say that the school does good because the students have a good relation with their teachers that lets them be able to ask for help whenever needed while also letting them be able to joke around.

I love this school. My son is in kindergarden and reading at a 2nd grade level. Excellent school!!!

4 1/2 years still a good school

Very unprofessional, doesnt care about the children especially black boys. Principal Mrs. Withers shows no empathy, very dry and uncaring. Horrible school Horrible

The quality of the teachers at the high school is so poor !!! I am frustrated everyday , most of the teachers are disrespectful, they don’t encourage you to get an education, this is not the place to bring your child ! Soon I hope to transfer I have been here since kindergarten and I am now in 9th grade , I am beyond fed up with this school !
