My time with Academy has been absolutely incredible. When I first joined it was definitely nerve wrecking, knowing absolutely nothing about grappling; but the the instructors and classmates were so inviting and helpful. The professors and coaches are extremely knowledgeable and willing to guide you through technique or offer helpful advice during a live sparring session. Speaking of sparring, Ive had some incredible experiances from flow rolling with a fellow white belt to using every trick I have against a higher belt its always a great learning experience. Plus if jiujitsu isnt an interest of yours they offer an excellent kickboxing program, whether youre experienced or not this class is a perfect fit for everyone. So if youre curious about Jiujitsu or kickboxing I highly recommend checking Academy out.

I’ve attended other Brazilian jiujitsu schools in Downey, and the team at Academy is superior to the others. I’ve learned so much more, the instructors are great group of experts that teach the fundamentals, are patient, and have helped me grow as a BJJ student. I still have a long road, and I am happy to be a part of this family.

I got my start with BJJ at this school and cannot say enough good things about it. The staff are professional and skilled and the students are welcoming and friendly. Its got a family atmosphere but is still very focused on training. They train hard there and genuinely love and enjoy teaching the sport.

My sons have the privilege of training at Academy. This gym is a gem and we are lucky to have it in the City of Downey. Professor Gustavo and Hector along with coach Eduardo are outstanding instructors and human beings. This gym is more than a business to them. My sons are not only learning bjj skills, but are learning life long skills of work ethic, respect and camaraderie. This is a clean, and welcoming gym for students and their families. My sons play a variety of sports but I plan on continuing to bring my sons to Academy for many years to come.

Best gym in Downey! Both my daughter and I take Jiu Jitsu classes at Academy. Everyone is very helpful and professional. You truly feel like they are invested in your health and success. You just get a very comfortable feeling as soon as you walk through the door. Professor Hector, Professor Gustavo, and Coach Eduardo are all top notch and best in class.
