In my opinion there is no better place to train in the sword martial arts than at SMK. Training at SMK is a very unique experience in that students are able to train in both (Kumdo (Kendo), & Siljun Dobup (Real Sword Training) from the beginning of their journey.Kumdo focuses on sparring while wearing armor against fellow practitioners with a bamboo sword while Siljun Dobup is focused on drawing, cutting and sheathing techniques with a katana (sharp sword). Students begin with a wooden sword and all practitioners practice with blunt non-sharp swords during class. When observed, Siljun Dobup and Kumdo seem completely different when in fact they complement each other perfectly; when studied together they complete the picture for practitioners to become well-rounded sword martial artists.SMK students are also introduced to Chosun Sebup & Bonkuk Kumbup which are traditional martial arts, Tameshigiri (target test cutting) and on occasion sparring with lightsabers like Jedi & Sith!Classes at SMK are great for anyone (kids, youth, adults & seniors) looking for a great workout, while developing discipline, focus & a calm mind, while also having fun!!

This is a great place to practice Kumdo at any level. Beginners will follow a simple step-by-step program while more experienced practitioners will further hone their skills. I highly recommend this school for all ages and backgrounds.

It was a spur of the moment decision to take my now 9-year-old boy to Sung Moo. A little more than a year ago when I was looking for a sport for Reuben to start I thought of my college days when Kendo (Japanese, Kumdo in Korean) club always intrigued me with its intense training with the bamboo swords. Though there are many things that can build characters in a young boy, Kumdo may be one that can really help Reuben. Now fifteen months later Reuben is having fun with friends learning at each Kumdo class and gradually mature under the teaching of Master Myung Min. My wife and I wish Reuben would have a little more discipline but I guess it will come with time. And I know Master Min is helping us instill great value in him. Reuben will continue Kumdo for many years to come. The facility is clean and well maintained. Plenty of supports from fellow parents. I am recommending to the two children of a friend of mine.

Sung Moo Kwan offers classes in Kendo/Kumdo and Siljun Dobup, a modern Iaido/Katana Sword form. The school is a member of the US Korean Kumdo Association and the International Kendo Federation (FIK). Master Min (5th Dan) is an excellent teacher who has an uncanny talent to challenge students while sparring without overwhelming them. The space is huge, larger than a basketball court, and has a springy floor that is perfect for Kendo.
