I graduated in 2011 and Fort Lewis was amazing. I studied geology (but most of my roommates and friends studied business). The professors were exceptional. They loved their respective field, gave relentless effort and tolerated immature undergrads with grace and enthusiasm. Durango is a super safe and fun mountain town. I was able to intern in my field at several places within the region and select a career path that suited my interests. We took loads of field trips all over the southwest. I can not imagine my life without those 4 blissful years.

We took a tour of the college..what an amazing place..like a small ivy league college in the west! So much diversity and cool programs..Many of the kids were out for the weekend on a school wide rafting trip. Durango is a stunning town and the outdoor experiences are endkess and at your fingertips..out your door..what and awesome place!

Im commenting from a visitors perspective. Easily the most beautiful campus I have ever seen. Sitting on top of a hill overlooking the town of Durango and surrounding mountains, with deer roaming freely unsuspicious of people. Can drive to the vibrant downtown in 5 min, or climb a newly constructed stair path of 500 steps to town. Nice facilities. Must be a beautiful experience to study and live here.

We just did a visit and we are very disappointed! Our daughter would have been a transfer student and she spent a lot of time & energy reaching out to Fort Lewis and talking with them. She was accepted & she has phenomenal grades! When we got there & she met Kayla, Kayla didn’t even remember her. The tour was very informal, with a huge group (we had toured many colleges), they showed us their worst dorms, they took us in 1 classroom, and mostly ran us through the tour. They didn’t even offer lunch (which is very important). My daughter had put down that she wanted to meet with some professors and financial aid and at the end of the tour Kayla just told everyone, “Okay, thank you for coming”! Our daughter told her she had meetings with financial aid & to meet with some professors... Kayla & Shelby had no idea what she was talking about! Shelby gave her the name, number & an email of a professor instead of having that professor reach out to our daughter. Obviously they aren’t in need of students! They just pushed their beautiful campus & all of the outdoor activities they offer, instead of their academics! So if all you want is a school with a lot of fun things to do & in a tourist town this is for you!

Attended 1965-1966. From California so, even though I was born in Grand Junction, I was an outsider. I enjoyed being taught by JFK advisers and the skiing was fantastic at the 1st year of Purgatory opening (good story there). Great memories!

It was an experience. And just like any experience, a mixed bag of both good and bad. All in all, a good small town college in a picturesque setting.

The facilities are poor and the dorms are even worse. The technology at FLC is terrible, the computers rarely work, and good luck finding good WiFi. The professors are really nice though, but the some of the students didnt seem to care much about their education. The professors really try to help their students succeed though.Oh, they also lied about having my major 2 months into my education there. They told me they no longer offered my major, despite the fact that when I registered for classes, my advisor told me everything about my major there. Never said a thing about it no longer being offered there. Luckily I got my money back and went to a way better school. So, please do yourself a favor and do NOT apply here. A lot of my friends had the same thing happen to them on this campus. I am a lot happier and am doing great at my current university with a 4.0, a university which, by the way, has my major and has not lied to my face once in the 3.5 years I have attended.

The dining hall gave me a bacterial infection because they dont keep things clean- which is also probably why I have also had the flu and strep all in a 3-month span. The dorms have zero circulation and are either 1000 degrees or freezing, not to mention the rank smell- probably having something to do with the black mold in our shower. The management- especially of the dining hall- are rude and less than helpful. Not to mention, it is virtually impossible to live here after your freshman year unless you want to be spending a ridiculous amount on rent for a home thats 30 minutes out of town. Fort Lewis will do anything in their power to screw you out of money and mess up your financial aid. The RAs and RD and never around, and even when they are, the hallways smell like straight up weed and people are loud well into the night. Save yourself from some of the worst years of your life and dont come to Fort Lewis College.

Horrible people. Apparently someone went to a European trip and some students have been making comments about “I hope we don’t run into nazis” and they tend to make quite a few hitler and nazi “jokes”. There was a review on facebook but was soon taken down. They don’t want to take responsibility for letting anyone just go on a trip. That trip to Germany wasn’t educational to some people and just a “fun” trip obviously. This school needs to make sure only good students who care have the opportunity to go on trips not just anyone.

Professors are great but this school has way too many students. Classes fill up within 2 hours of registration opening and schedules are not flexible at all. They do everything they can to keep you from graduating in four years.

Professor quality and efficiency can vary. How a student is graded according to syllabus is subjective to how professor grades students and some can have excessive punishment built into policies that are not standardized or overseen by the college.

Fort Lewis College is a public liberal arts college in Durango, Colorado.Because of its unique origins, where the military fort turned into an Indian boarding school transformed into a public public school, Fort Lewis College also follows a mandate in 1911 to provide tuition-free education for eligible Native Americans. Fort Lewis College grants approximately 16 percent of the baccalaureate degrees that Native American students have earned in the country. In 2008, FLC was appointed as one of six US colleges serving non-tribal services by the US Department of Education.FLC is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges and is accredited by the Higher Education Commission, with additional credits at the program level in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics and Marketing; Mathematical Training Chemistry; Engineering Physics; Music; and Teacher Education. The college offers 30 bachelors degrees through its four academic units. The first army center in Fort Lewis was created in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, in 1878, and in 1880 it was moved to Hispros, Colorado, on the southern slopes of the La Plata Mountains. In 1891, Fort Lewis dropped out and converted into an Indian boarding boarding school outside of custody. In 1911, the ownership of the fort and buildings in Hispros was transferred to Colorado to create a High School of Agricultural and Mechanical Arts. This act came under two conditions: that the land be used for an educational institution, and to be preserved as an educational institution in which Indian students are admitted without tuition fees and on an equal basis with white students forever (Law of the 61st Congress, 1911). Both cases were missions and guides to various incarnations of the Fort Lewis School during the past century. In the 1930s, Fort Lewis High School expanded to a two-year college, and in 1948 Fort Lewis A&M College came under the control of the State Council for Agriculture. Aggies, who teaches at the Fort Lewis branch of the College of Agriculture and Mechanics in Colorado State, can choose from courses that include agriculture, forestry, engineering, veterinary science, and economicsFort Lewis College underwent another period of growth and changes that began in 1956, when the College moved from its old home in Hesbros to its current location, 18 miles east, above what was then known as Reservoir Hill, overlooking Durango. Here, FLC became a four-year institution, which awarded its first baccalaureate degrees in 1964.Also in 1964, the college dropped the nickname A&M. At that time, the new Fort Lewis College changed its mascot from Aggies to Raiders, and changed the school colors from green and yellow to its Colorado State University system to blue and gold is still sport today. In modern history: In 1994, the mascot became Skyhawks, preserving blue and gold. In 1995, Fort Lewis College joined the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges, and in 2002, the college became independent of the Colorado State University system, and formed its governing Board of Trustees.
