DSA is a great school but it’s just the teachers and staff members that work there I would in person for six grade and I am now going to ace I so far love the school and will continue going here but they do give you a lot of homework and then expect you to do other extracurricular activities after school which can put on a lot of work overload and you don’t get out till 4:15 I don’t get home till 4:30 sometimes which for me I do not like but overall I like the school

I’m not writing this review to bring down the school I’m just writing for the school to improve and because I wish I knew this before I went so I knew that it’s not what everyone says it is. It’s not horrible but it’s also not the best. I’ve been going since 6th and I’m now in 9th but I’m leaving. Some teachers are nice others aren’t. If you aren’t in A’s and B’s or honor roll the teachers kind of blame you. Even though it’s an art school I wouldn’t suggest going if your going mostly for the arts, the art teachers are amazing but there’s so much homework that you don’t have much time left to work on your art. They ask for money very often which gets annoying and there are so many voicemails which is even more annoying. The middle schoolers don’t have much to look forward to since there’s not really any field trips or dances or other activities. There’s no football team which was a let down for me. If you’re an average ,under average student, or do a lot of after school things you will probably have issues with the workload. There’s constant pressure to get good test scores so it doesn’t bring down the schools overall scores. The janitors do a very good job and are very nice. At assembly’s they constantly talk about how we need to keep the reputation of the school good and keep up our grades so we don’t make them look bad. There’s also many times over COVID when teachers had times students needed to come to school for different reasons but most of the times it conflicted with parents who have 9-5 jobs so they have to either not go or take time off from work. Overall I would suggest this school to people that are into academics more than a normal middle and high school life because the work and everything is very time consuming and not really any good after school events.

Good for acidemics and arts, even better if you dont care about mental health or you like getting bullied! The teachers who do care cant do much to help, but I gave an extra star for them. Ill miss those teachers, but not the school as a whole.

Great school with amazing chorus program love the chorus teachers. Needs some more minority teachers since we are predominantly minoritys, but still a good school. Foreign language program could be better but you cant have everything. They hand out a lot of suspensions very senselessly, be aware of that. Ms Garvoille and Mr Myers are the best.

I am a student and I feel that I am respected and always feel Im in an understanding community. Not only do the teachers make it easier to learn but they also make it fun to learn!Very accepting of everyone! Great school love it!

As a current student I will honestly say I wouldnt want to be anywhere else. The environment at this school is so diverse there is a guarantee you will find friends - no matter how weird or strange people call you. As Durham Public Schools academic powerhouse and hub for youthful artists, Durham School of the Arts is the best school in Durham and one of the best in this nation.

This is not a great school like they say it is. Parents please don’t get caught up

I am a parent and I have to say that this school, teachers, guidance councilors, and Mr. Hawks saved my daughter. This is an awesome school! There is a certain draw for teachers to DSA which allows Mr. Hawks to pick the best teachers. My daughter is proud to walk the halls of DSA. What a gem for Durham.
