The Staff and Students are professional and friendly. I am very pleased the instructor was able to assist me with the perfect hair color. I frequently get compliments on my color and style. I gladly share where and who my stylist is. Zandra is amazing, she has a wonderful future ahead upon graduation. I encourage the local community to support the students in this school, the future of our hair care depends on our support.

I attended this school while high risk pregnant for 4 days and was taken out by my doctor, which the school was notified. I continued to contact them in regards to any paperwork they may need and withdrawal specifications. I left many messages and no one returned my call. I was even put on hold and no one returned to the phone. The school continued to process loans knowing that I could not attend. Now I have a loan on my credit which all could have been avoided but instead the school and loan place Great Lakes worked together to scam students into debt for financial gain for themselves. Im disgusted with this school, still havent been able to contact them to this day. And to think once i delivered i wanted to return! Please!!!!

Just an amazing experience!!Serviced by one of the students. ..Kita!.... just a wonderful girl... helped my hair transform from Mess to Success. Had a sew-in removal followed by a silk wrap. Her instructor, Ms Jackson... walked the entire floor, greeting customers offering guidance if needed. Very aware of the students and their clients. Every stylist was engaged. Very professional establishment. What a wonderful beauty school. I will return.

I have read some of the reviews and it is unfortunate the customer service issues many of you have experienced. I also paid a visit to Durham Beauty Academy the week of August 1, 2018. I had a situation which began by the evening receptionist indicating that she had no appointment scheduled for me. I responded that I called that day and even asked the person making the appointments to make sure she entered it into the system. The day receptionist responded at the time that she did note it in the system. The evening front desk reception shared how the appointment shouldnt have been made for the same day as the call. I responded That appears to be an internal training issue and not a customer issue. The reception then called a supervisor over named Mrs. Robinson. Mrs.Robinson apologized for the confusion, and encouraged me to wait and that I would be seen. Mrs. Robinsons tone was very calming and extremely polite. The evening receptionist who did remain professional began entering my information so I could be seen by one of the stylist/student. My name was called and the stylist who I had previously was already assigned to a client who was getting a very complicated hair cut. She indicated that she would do my hair next, right after she finished the current client. I waited about a half an hour, and saw that she wasnt anywhere never finishing her current clients intricate hair cut. Therefore I requested to be assigned to someone else. The second stylist had a very nice bubbly personality, and she asked me about the services that I was getting. She indicated that she was going to get the color from the back, and she would be right back. Upon her return she shared that the color that I received last time was out of stock. She made some suggestions about mixing up two colors to try and create a dark brown color. Of course since she is a student in training I didnt think that would be a good idea. By this time it was almost an hour in total that has already gone by, and no services have been performed on my hair. I asked for Mrs. Robinson to come over. The stylist apologetically explained the situation to Mrs. Robinson. Mrs. Robinson in a caring manner sympathized with me. Mrs. Robinson then explained that I would receive a credit for next time, and they would work on getting the color in stock. She then offered me a free hair wash and conditioner. In closing, Mrs. Robinson (supervisor) exhibited excellent deescalating communication skills. Despite not getting any services done, I will return and try again. The staff overall did a good job in spite of the initial communication breakdown which began with not finding my appointment. In reference to the negative previously posted comments, everyone please be aware that these are students. They are learning and growing in their profession. We all know how it was starting a new career or job and having to get training. Weve all also made mistake on the job, and if you had a great patient boss/mentor you learned from them and excelled.

My daughter tried to use a groupon and ended spending over an hour waiting in the lobby. She was never seen, and had other appointments. The staff was rude and manager was unwilling to even come talk to me about the issue when I called my daughters cell phone (because their phones were broken). Will never try to go there again, and I would recommend not using them at all. All around poor experience, and so unfortunate for my daughter as this was supposed to be a fun part of her graduation experience.

If I could put a zero or leave it blank I would I graduated from there in 2015 and still have not had a graduation nor a diploma they use these poor students to make money for them and they steal it ms. Cox was stealing money and was removed but they will not compensate for our loss and not having a graduation I have tried to reach out with Mr. richardson and they will not provide me any information to reach him so that I can be compensated! Please do not attend school here and please dont waste your money getting your hair done we are not even allowed to take our clients who we worked so hard to bring in clientele to the school PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help bring this to a stop the school is private and it is so hard to sue but in due time they will. I thought I would just be honest and let the world know what they do here!

My experiences have varied but this past week was the worst. One of the ladies, not sure of her position, got into an argument with one of the students/clients on the floor while she was cutting someones hair.My hair was dry as sand after a relaxer. I told the stylist and I guess she was upset because it was past time for her to leave.... she burned my ear with the flat iron and then the head lady came clogging towards me to try to say my hair was a wreck before they touched it. Not to mention her long nails that she used to try to tell me my hair was damaged. And then told me they couldnt fix my hair today - that I would have to come back another day.I will have to think long and hard about going back.

You get what you pay for. Mother and I received a mani pedi @ 20.50 each. The girls who did our nails had good customer service but the service over all wasnt great. The school lacked proper supplies for students. No working foot spas. Water was like warm. No base coat for students to use when painting nails. School says services are done under teacher supervision but no supervision was given especially when one student admitted it was her first mani pedi. Watched another customer get her hair done without proper detangling (student couldve avoided alot of hair shed if she had sectioned out hair and took the time to start at the ends and work her way to the root) Although it was a student salon and again the students doing the service were kind and customer oriented the environment as a whole was slightly unprofessional. The teacher in charge of the salon area was loud and wasnt really. If you need a mani pedi on a budget stick to an actual nail school. Polish rubbed off the next day lacks luster looks like I have matte nails even tho lustrous top coat was used.

I called to make an appointment an the person asked great questions regarding what I wanted and my hair type. She gave me an appointment for the next day at 1:30pm. I get to the academy and the RUDE RECEPTIONIST tells me my appointment was at 1:00 pm. I said no, the person I spoke to confirmed that my appointment was for 1:30pm. She then asks - who did I speak to - I told her whoever answered the phone yesterday...then the funniest question was - well was she my age or young....ummm - how in the world would I know the persons age or even hers for that matter over the phone???? She then tells me that she doesnt have anyone to do my hair. Needless to say - very tacky and unprofessional.

I scheduled a manicure and spa pedicure appointment. After arriving and waiting inline for several minutes, I was asked to take a seat. After waiting for about 10 minutes, the receptionist reported that all the student had gone home. Not clear why I was told to wait, I was told that more students would be about an hour after my scheduled time if I wanted to wait. I declined.I was given a coupon for %50 off the service. So well see.. as I intend to go back. Dont select a time between shifts, and you probably wont experience this problem. (Shifts change between 3:30-4:30.ON WEEK LATER **************************************Okay I went back one week later. I waited almost 50 minutesbefore I was seen. The student I got wasnt very talkative. I finally said, can you tell me the process this is my first time.It took me 2 hours and 20 min to get a manicure and pedicure. The choices for nail polish was limited, the brands of materials were lower quality. I was disappointed. The final outcome, I would not recommend the nail service at this site.Try the Aveda School in Chapel Hill instead. The hair process seemed to be much much better. My two cents trying to provide an optimistic review.

Durham Beauty Academy are crooks, they let their clients believe they are using salon quality products when their deep conditioner is really just cholesterol from the local beauty supply store leaving clients hair dry and damaged, they use color from your local beauty supply and they over charge clients for services with little to no knowledge about hair. Your hair is not their concern YOUR MONEY IS!!!!! And I repeat dont work here either..MY FIRST CHECK I WAS SHORTED MONEY, THEY DONT TRAIN YOU PROPERLY BUT QUICK TO DISCIPLINE EMPLOYEES FOR MAKING MISTAKES. THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THEIR EMPLOYEES, I WORKED WHILE I WAS SICK WITH THE FLU AND THEY DIDNT CARE!! MRS. PORTER IS VERY RUDE AND SPITEFUL..THEY WONT GIVE ME MY LAST CHECK AFTER THEY FIRED ME FOR A BOGUS EXCUSE, APPARENTLY THEY WOULD LIKE THEIR RECEPTIONIST TO HAVE A INSTRUCTORS LICENSE SO THE INSTRUCTORS CAN BE LAZY AND HAVE THE RECEPTIONIST DO THEIR JOB. AND LASTLY BUT NOT LEAST I STILL HAVENT RECIEVED MY LAST PAYROLL CHECK FROM THEM!!! PURE CROOKS!!

Very unprofessional, dirty salon. Bought a groupon for a mani pedi. They did not have buffers for nails or files for heels and none of the gel paint I paid extra for. The paint they did have was delivered to me in a dirty plastic shoebox rather than on a wall like a real salon. The students lack tools to do their jobs- my esthetician was very nice but a little frustrated because they had nothing for me and she felt bad. The linens are raggedy and stained- well the whole place is. I walked out 10 minutes into the service. If you want excellent discounted esthetics services- go to Durham Technical Community College Beauty School. Too bad they dont do mani/pedis! I could have avoided ever going Durham Beauty Academy.

I went to the Durham beauty academy on 12-22-2017 toget my kids hair done. I had and appointment at 5:30pm and they didnt have us in the computer. An when I showed the instrutre that I had for a tex to confirm he said that he cant do nothing about that. The customer service sucks and I will never go there again. Because there was only one student there. He didnt even try to come up with a resultion. What was the point of making and appointment. But that gose to show that the staff at Durham beauty academy do not care about there customers. I guess they figure that there prices are so cheap it dosent matter if they lose a customer that had and appointment. An even though iam writing this post it will not change a thing.

I have been to this location about 3 or 4 times and overall I loved it. First time there I had a sew in weave crisis. And thankfully the stylist fixed it. I got a new sew in that was gorgeous and so natural looking. Months later I went natural and the next stylist gave me a wonderful trim and shapeup and my hair was left soft and manageable. Unfortunately I went back for another trim but this stylist CUT my hair and I qas unhappy with the look. Since this is a Beauty School a lot of people misunderstand what they are getting from the service. You have to go in knowing that the students are practicing their skills to be able to cut it in the real world as a stylist. As long as you understand that every style may not be what you expect then you should go here. Again. Most stylist are above and beyond professional while sitting in your chair...I would also say I could fo without the extra gossip of the facility and financial aid problems, but its usually the stylists that are far from graduating and still have a lot to learn. The prices are great and most time the service is excellent. I just wished I were able to get the numbers of the stylists I had so I could get to them after they graduate for my hair styles but no marketing allowed there.

UPDATE:You would think that when someone comes in and speaks so optimistic about a school, a business, a person in d midst of all d negative connotations that surround it; that that entity would attempt 2 put there best foot forward 2 show themselves worthy of such fine speech. Well I have come 2 d conclusion that DBA simply do not care. As long as they get $$ they dont care what ppl say about them whether good or bad. as long as they get theirs; they DONT care if u dont get urs. I will not discuss what ALL has happened n its totality since d submission of d original review. I will simply say that I graduated 6/7/18 and have yet to receive the license I went there for bc they have not paid d application fee even though Ive passed EVERY test with FLYING COLORS and they already got d financial aid $ 2 pay for it. Not only that, they have not given me d refund they owe me. Is it a ponsie scheme that school ...Idk but I do know THEY DONT CARE!! (Except Ms. Valentine she is d only one that I can say 100% cares more about d students then d. DBAteam) May I PLZ have my license and my refund so I can get the memory of this past year OUT OF MY LIFE, Mr. Richardson?! Plz thank uORIGINAL: Just like any area in life; u get out what u put n. If u look4 a (+) experience u get 1. Bc its all in how u view things. Its not 2 say everything & everyone is perfect; but, I CHOOSE 2 look@ and therefore, RECEIVE d gr8ness in all things. As a student at DBA, So far I have seen staff that is flawed, like us all; But, DEFINITELY do care and want every student to succeed! After only 1 mouth here, Ive received more outsourced advanced training then in almost 2 years at my former school.Simply put, dont sleep on DURHAM BEAUTY ACADEMY or u may Just miss out on gr8ness!!
