This school was aight. I loved my teachers and classmates but one times during lunch in 4th grade my friend had a moth, literally a dead moth in her food and lucky me I had a lunch box. But that moment scared me for life cause it’s just a white moth in a hot plate of whatever that red stuff was. They food never seemed real and I’m glad I got home food.

Hi I think this is a good school it goes to K-8. I have been there K-5 I have made good life time friends. I am in 8th grade now I am in another school because my family moved. If you want suggestions for teachers Ms.Pool K teacher, Ms.Sneagle 2 grade teacher, Ms.McCollum 3 grade teacher, Mr. Reynolds 5th grade teacher. If you want to talk to one of the Deans I suggest Dean Shaw. But i do agree they shouldnt wear uniforms because it is stupid.

Hi! I went to this school k-8th grade. My entire experience was never the “best,” but one particular thing that happened will forever return a bad memory to my mind. Every quarter, I was on the Honor Roll. Whether I had all A’s or A’s and B’s. Never in my life had I gotten a C. When I was in 8th grade, I took 10th grade math. For the first three quarters, I had an A in that class and in the fourth quarter, I ended off with a B. I was so excited to walk across the stage at my 8th grade graduation for making Honor Roll, in front of my family, friends, teachers, and anyone who had doubted my academic ability. When my name was not called for neither A or A/B Honor Roll, I was extremely confused, but most of all, extremely embarrassed. After the ceremony, I approached my dean and my principal about me not being called for Honor Roll. I was told that I had a C in math. After pulling up my final grade and even emailing my teacher for clarification, I was able to prove that I indeed ended with a B. However, none of the faculty took it upon themselves to correct the grade on my record, nor did they even seem to care that the incorrect grade on my record bothered me. Since I had a “C,” I was no longer considered an “academic achiever” at RTCA and was not acknowledged for the hard work that I put in from the age of 5 until the age of 14. Middle school grades may not seem like a big deal and I’m sure that, as I get older, I will begin to care less about how that situation was handled. Though, never will I ever not be hurt about it. The embarrassment that I felt when my classmates asked me why my name was not called will never go away. The embarrassment that I felt when my family got to see some of my classmates be titled “academic achievers” and not me, will never go away. Most of all, the lowering of my self-esteem and the pain that I feel from the staff who “cared about me” not helping me, will never go away. I am now in the 11th grade and I have to deal with knowing that the full auditorium of people that were at my 8th grade graduation will never know how hard working of a scholar I really am.

Not Pleased! As others have experienced, I was under the impression this school was a very good setting and opportunity compared to public school but unfortunately my nephew has experienced such a lackadaisical response from teachers and administration that it has required my sister to begin to listen in to his class time to ensure he is being talked to and treated fairly. IEPs are not taken seriously and, especially during COVID, have been left up to my sister to make sure its followed by the school. I understand COVID caught everyone off guard, but the educational needs of child should not be ignored nor shortchanged due to a school being unprepared after months of being virtual. Communication efforts are less than acceptable as misinformation comes out all of the time. I can ONLY image what would happen if my nephew was in class where we could not see what was happening daily. Changes are needed, IMMEDIATELY!

I am the Director at a virtual learning campus for working parents. Our center also provide daycare for children that are not in school. I have witness the frustration and chat feedback to a 1st grader that attends NRH. A teacher asks a student about their testing and missing assignments with such rage and anger. I believe the pandemic is overwhelming to us ALL. If it gets to the point that you are more of the problem for these young babies that is just as confused as some adults choose another field. Its start at the head so if the Dean which I believe is a female and the teacher. It need to be some adjustments. To provide a POSITIVE ENERGY and learning environment for our future. The other concerned I had was why put children under so much pressure when you can call or Email the Guardian or Parent.

No stars should be given, but selecting a star is the only way to post your review. As a parent of a five year that was inappropriately touched last week at this school, today marks a week, that nothing has been done to rectify this situation. I would not recommend this school to anyone. The lack of proactiveness that surrounds serious incident is mortifying. Parents please be aware. If it happened to my child it can happen to yours.

The new principal needs to rethink why shes a principal because apparently she cares more about getting kids into the building than keeping them safe. First she sends out an email saying how we dont need to quarantine yet but it is coming and then the next morning tell all of her teachers at carpool to get all the kids out the car and take the temperature at the door after their parents leave. What sense does that make and how are you keeping kids safe? I use to like this school but now Im just thinking about taking my kids out.

This school has become terrible. My son started there in 2nd grade and he was placed in an accelerated class teacher said he wasnt supposed to be in the accelerated class and didnt say anything until the end of the school year. the teacher had to reach for help from a 1st grade teacher and the 1st grade teacher was great and said she didnt see any problems. Now he is on the fourth grade and the teachers stated they realized he had a very bad case of test anxiety , but stated it was against the law to help. I tried to tell the teachers that when he started and no one did anything and now they want to hold him back another grade. This school did absolutely nothing to help my child. Then there was a teacher there that verbally abused the kids, yelling and telling them to stay in the fourth grade amongst other things. I have lost all faith in this school and how unorganized and unprofessional they are. The principal is not involved at all, yet he sends out emails to parents asking for monetary donations, as well as toilet tissue, paper towels, and copy paper etc. This is after parents buy all of the necessary supplies. This school has become a disgrace. I really did not want to give one star, but I had to in order to post this review.

This school started out being very helpful the 1st year but never keep teachers every year the teachers from last year quit and leave and new teachers step (High Turnover)Teacher my son had bullied her students and the school stood by her and gave my son a hard time after he told me that he was being bullied. Would help my son when he didnt understand work in the class room would not reach back to me when I requested help with his assignments, would not give me a referral for after school program and tutoring as I had requested sent emails of altercations regarding my son and another child but was not my child in the altercation. Then when another child punched my son in the back of the head and stepped on his glasses they wanted to suspend my son for defending himself and did not notify me of the altercation at all my son told me when I picked him up. Would not allow the children to go to the bathroom and took away extra-curricular activities for the entire class when children would act up in the class room my son has always had great behavior. but did not like the fact that even though he was being good because some of the children were not good the entire class would be punished and recess would be taken away. or learning activities canceled by the teacher and the teacher would just stop teaching when the students would act up in the class. When I attempted to look into other schools they set my son up after I said I did not want him to attend the school they tried to suspend my son to keep him from qualifying for another school and destroy my son’s good behavior track record throughout school. They tricked my husband into withdrawing my child when I requested paper work needed to apply for new schools and told me that I would have to reapply if I wanted my son to stay in school until I could find another school and that if he returned he would be suspended for fighting (defending himself because the physical education teacher failed to protect him and left him to be punched in the back of his head and his glasses broken and left to defend himself and never notified me as a parent that the incident ever happen. I did not know my son was injured until my son told me when I picked him up from school that day. I WOULD HAVE GIVEN THIS SCHOOL ZERO STARS IF I COULD HAVE BUT THE POST REQUIRED A STAR THEY DONT DESERVED ANY STARS. THE BEST THIS THAT EVER HAPPEN TO THIS SCHOOL WAS MR. NORMAN AND HE LEFT LAST YEAR.

This school has a lot of growing to do. Although they can’t control the actions of their students behavior (bullying) other measures need to be set in place. I’ve encountered attitudes with the staff (front desk), teachers and so on. They stress the fact of students being on time but don’t take in consideration that there has been constant construction on this road for over two years and also picks up the overflow of I40 traffic due to accidents, the train and other children that attend near by schools loading on their school bus that makes frequent stops at these apartments homes..There will be delays and set backs. I’ve checked with there sister school that’s located in Raleigh Nc and they have a grace period for these students. Instead of marking the student tardy threatening to retain these students. Honor a grace period for these scholars to get into class and settled. Even the drive line has its ups and downs.

I am very disappointed and upset of the new staff at RTCA especially for grades 3-5. This school has an all new high of bullying and now instead of following an appropriate protocol to resolve the issue they are now avoiding it and being unsupportive towards those students who are getting bullied, in fact they will force that child not to tell or simply ignore the bullying causing children to be in a disruptive and stressful environment. I will never recommend this school to no one and I am so glad my children no longer goes here.

I only gave a 3 star because of my kids teachers, I had no problem with my kids teachers , but as far as administration goes , from both deans to the principal! My daughter went to that school for three years, never really got in any trouble out the ordinary as a young teen and they took the most important day away from her to march on her graduation across the stage. And the reason for that was (and i quote) she was being disrespectful! What did she do that was disrespectful? They told me its not what she said it was her body language! And for the years that she was going to that school I never ever get a call from her teachers or have I ever went to a conference where I was inform that she was a disrespectful child .A week before she was to take part in her graduation ceremony, she was in the carpool line waiting to be pick up and she was ask about a child that was out of control. The dean thought that child was her brother and she simply told her he not my brother . the dean said she answers in a disrespectful manner and that leads to her not taking part in the ceremony !The part that bothers me the most was the fact that I was not called that day of or days after . my child did not get suspended, she didnt even no that she was in trouble. I pick her up that day not knowing that there was even a problem .I was so excited that my baby did so good all year , pay for her graduation package and ever thing. Then they wait for the weekend a Friday to tell me my daughter will not be taking part. So a entire week went by, she was not suspended she went to school every day that week then right before the ceremony they called me to tell me this. I was so mad I cry!!I had a meeting with both dean and principal and it went know where. They principal went as far as saying he saw her in the pass being disrespectful. But I was never told this or she never get in any problem about being a disrespectful child . I went to the school board I got know where. They took something so important from her all because a adult the dean did not like my child facial expressions.I had to pull my other son from there after that . Again the teachers are wonderful . But what adminstration did to my child was wrong.I believe in children being respectful to adult and I raise my children to be respectful. If she did something that would cause that action then fine. It just felt personal .

I gave 2 stars because of the security and the teachers. What I mean when I say security is that the women at the front desk are very aware and attentive of who comes and goes from RTCA. They have a doorbell and security cam and to have peace of mind while your child is not in your care means everything!!They also seem to hire pretty good teachers. I just recently pulled my daughter out of this school and started homeschooling her. First of all this is not a dig at the teachers or the school itself however this is my experience. My biggest issue with this school is administration and the communication. My daughters first year was fine besides some medical issues that she was having. I worked a lot and was not able to be as active as I wanted to. When she went to the 1st grade I was able to be more active and I started to notice that I was having a hard time with administration when it came to the communication between them and my daughters teacher. Granted she was a first year teacher (which was also an issue because the teacher to children ratio is to high even though its lower public schools) and was not fully aware of exactly how things worked. Even though I explained and forwarded emails several times proving that I went through the proper channels to schedule time to observe I was still given a hard time by the Principal. One day I walked out of there in tears because my daughter was complaining about being bored and constantly calling home from school with stomach pains so I emailed her teacher and let her know that I wanted to observe and try to figure out a way to keep her engaged. The teacher was all for it however as soon as the dean came into the classroom he immediately met me with aggression as if I was a stranger with no purpose of being at the school. He proceeded to tell me that even if I stopped to get a visitors badge I could not just pop in and out as I pleased (EVEN THOUGH I SPOKE WITH HER TEACHERS 2 DAYS IN ADVANCE). Which was an issue because if my child was complaining about being bored with school work and having chronic stomach issues I should be allowed to come in and stop at the front desk and check in on my child (I KNOW I AM NOT THE ONLY PARENT THAT LIKES TO DO RANDOM VISITS AT THEIR CHILD SCHOOL) He was very hard to deal with and he was disrespectful. That following week I pulled my daughter out of this school. I later found out that my daughter was not only eating the lunch that I sent from home but also eating the school lunch as well. There was also several incidents that occurred that I was not made aware of until my daughter told me and I would ask the teacher and she would then explain. There was always last minute communication in regards to events and other things that the school sponsored, by the school. For me the communication and the administrations attitude towards parents was a deal breaker. There are a few others instances that occurred where me and the Dean had an dialogue that wasnt pleasant. I feel like the demeanor of the Dean is a facade and in my personal opinion I would not advise you to enroll your child if you want to be thoroughly involved in your childs education without having to jump through hoops and potentially be exposed to an aggressive environment. Why is it that as a parent I can not spend the entire day with child to have a extensive look at who is teaching my child and what is being taught. I do not feel as though an hour or 2 is enough to gain insight on how to improve my childs learning experience.

My family has gone to this school since 1998. I love this school. My nephew got a full ride to go to NCSU and my niece got a full ride to UNCC. I have two sons that go to this school and they are A and B students. My suggestions to the parents that have issues with the school get involved. The teachers need to see you when things are going good and bad. I can talk to my sons teacher about anything. The teacher and I are on the same team even when the teacher is wrong or right. We are a united in front of the kids and discuss issues behind closed doors. This is the best non private or public school in the area.

Absolutely HORRIBLE school. The academics seemed good so we moved my step-daughter for her 5th grade year. The first day of school the bullying began. This continued the entire year and despite our lengthy talks to admin who acknowledged the issues it didnt get much better. My husband and I wanted to move her and get her out of there but her mother wanted to try it one more year. Again, the first day of school started the bullying and with it came sexual and racial harassment. She was the only Caucasian child in her class and was repeatedly harassed and called horrid names. Things were said to her so horrible I cant type them. The admin. knew this was happening and despite talks, meetings and reports, they told us sorry, we know this is going on but we cant really do anything. Things became so bad we ended up having to pull her out of school. I would absolutely NEVER recommend this school to anyone. I even contacted National Herritage Academy and they knew this was happening and refused to do anything. Absolutely the worst school in the area and horrible admin. Students are equally awful and this environment is no place for your children!

My daughter accepted a seat as a kindergartner at RTCA only because she had not yet won a lottery seat at our first choice magnet school. Look, I was wary the moment we met to test our kids in May or June, can’t remember but school had not yet let out for summer. Anywho, some of the staff seem pretty upbeat and like they enjoy their careers. Others, not so much. This became extremely apparent when I formally withdrew her from RTCA after being accepted to the magnet school. They were supposed to release her PowerSchool info and kept giving the new school the run around. The person in the front office who handles this was uninterested in returning my calls, and was not happy when I showed up on a Friday morning, to say the least. After being told that the new school had to retrieve that info from DPI, I called DPI. And guess what, PowerSchool is transferred from school to school, it never goes through DPI. I’m fuming 😤 NOTHING happens until I call NHA’s 1-800 number and they find whoever they need to find and my kid’s PowerSchool info is available immediately for her to even be in her new school’s system. So when I say trust your gut, trust your gut! I had heard nothing but good about RTCA prior to visiting. But that first visit turned me off completely, by nothing but a feeling. Now to read these other reviews, glad to dodge that bullet. Bye.

When I first heard about RTCA I thought that they were doing great things at their school. I talked to several people who had sent their children/grandchildren there before and they told me to stay clear. After being hardheaded and sending my child to this school I now realize that I made a horrible decision. The leadership lacks proper experience to deal with children. They allow children to jump on weaker children and then when the child defends themselves they kick them out of school. This school is HORRIBLE when it comes to communicating with parents. If your child has a continuous issue with another child they will not allow you to have a conference with the other parent and child. The assistant principal lacks skills to deal with parents who actually care about their childs well being.Additionally, the lunch is subpar at best. They have to microwave each mystery meal and some days the truck that delivers the meals doesnt even show up.
