My son, just finished working with Mr Cole. He was fantastic! His demeanor was calm and relaxed, he gave excellent tips and instruction helping my son in turn to also relax and gain confidence even driving through more difficult areas. Mr Cole provided excellent communication from start to finish and was prompt and professional throughout. He provided me with a summary of things they were working on, a better way to give feedback and helped me feel more confident in my sons driving. Having already gone through normal behind the wheel this was an excellent opportunity to improve his skills with personalized feedback. I am extremely pleased with Mr Cole and Above Average Driving School. I felt very safe in trusting Mr Cole with my son and he provided excellent instruction. I only Wish I had done this sooner and would not hesitate to use him again.

I had a phenomenal experience driving with Ms.Crystal! She did a great job providing instruction in a way that was engaging, fun, and not at all overwhelming or stressful. We had something come up on the third day and the entire team stepped in to come up with a solution to our problem. Ms. Tracy was my daughters instructor and she was just WONDERFUL!!! Vaughn Cole is the best! Haha! I was eager to post a positive review for the last two months -- I couldnt find the #@$%! review area! Mr. Cole went out of his way and took his time to make sure I knew what the hell I was doing. I tried to set up a driving lesson class with these folks. I got a call back from them (Calvin Brewer as seen on TrueCaller) but I couldnt hear anything. I sent a message to the number on the website about what I needed and left it at that. They have over 140 positive reviews, and I was under an assumption that they would be professional in their method of getting new trainees. In sometime, I got a WhatsApp video call from his personal number. I did not pick up. A while later, I got a message from his number that said Hola Princess. If this is how they treat customers, Im not sure if anyone would ever feel safe taking classes from them. I hadnt even spoken to this person about what I wanted and all I got was this. This is horrible, unsafe and extremely unprofessional of them.

Had a great coaching with Mr Cole, successfully passed my road test.

Beware.After several attempts to call the office with no answer or message service we decided to schedule a class online. We still had unanswered questions and thus the next day decided to cancel the class the same way we had scheduled it to begin with—online. We received a confirmation email for both the initial appointment and the cancellation. A few weeks later after noticing that the payment did not get returned to our credit card, we called the office multiple times until we got an answer. They said they would keep a $120 scheduling fee. After several conversations they still would not budge as they said this pays for the scheduling service. As I already stated we had scheduled online and canceled the same way all within 24 hours. No scheduling service costs this much for one person to use. I really feel like they in fact STOLE from my family. I would never recommend this company.

We missed sign up for the contracted group at our daughters high school. Im glad we did. We found Above Average Driving School and were impressed with the positive reviews posted. We enrolled our daughter in the teen program and simply cannot imagine a better experience. The classroom instruction was well organized and presented in an engaging manner. Tracy did a fantastic job and got high marks from our daughter. As for the driving portion, Mr. Cole is outstanding. This is a man who loves his work. He was always smiling, provided great instruction, passed on tips to our daughter (and me!) in our conversations at pickup, was always on time, and incredibly encouraging. The man is a great instructor and has serious mentor tools. Our daughter enjoyed driving with him and will miss this experience, but is well equipped to head out on the road armed with her learners permit. Simply cannot recommend the Above Average Driving (they are WAY above average!) enough. True pros.

I just moved down from Brooklyn, NY and needed to learn how to drive because public transportation is a joke in North Carolina. I am so thankful I found this driving school. Mr. Cole was my driving instructor, and he is the best driving instructor Ive ever had (and Ive had a few back in NY). I got the 10 hour package because it had been a while since my last driving lesson back in Brooklyn. The driving lessons are broken up into 5 two-hour lessons. Mr. Cole is great because he instills confidence and is VERY CALM which is what I needed so that I could focus on my driving skills. On our first lesson we drove all the way to downtown Durham. He talked and cracked jokes the whole way, which was great because being engaged in conversation helped calm my nerves about driving. Throughout each lesson he would observe your driving skills, then tell you what youre doing wrong and then how to do it correctly, and then work with you to improve those skills. When it came time for the road test, I felt confident and PASSED on the first try!!! Mr. Cole is very knowledgeable about the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area, and pointed out all these great places to eat around the city - very important and useful info for a new resident! I would definitely recommend Mr. Cole as a driving instructor for first time adult drivers.

Mr Cole from Above Average Driving School is exactly that, above average and deserves honorable mention. My teenage daughter struggles with anxiety and fear of failure. I am a new driver. I took classes from another driving school two months ago but failed my driving test twice. I only had 10 hrs of behind-the-wheel driving experience when I started taking classes from Mr. Cole. It is only because of his efforts that I got my license today. He is a very kind, calm, composed, and patient instructor. He understands exactly why you make some mistakes and gives you the right techniques and tricks to navigate the path smoothly. I used to get very confused about a lot of things: for example, in what scenario would you stop when the signal turns yellow and when would you continue to move. Mr. Cole made sure that I understood every aspect of driving. He used different techniques to enhance the learning experience. He not only explained the rules but also demonstrated practically by driving himself sometimes to show how to make smooth turns or maintain good speed while turning. He also keeps a small whiteboard with him in case student finds it difficult to understand something verbally. Driving has been one of the biggest fears in my life and I was able to overcome it because of his efforts. I enjoy driving now. Also, it was very kind of him to wake up early and for taking out time even on weekends to teach me to drive. I highly recommend taking driving classes from Mr. Cole.

I was really nervous to start driving lessons, having recently moved from the UK. After reading the reviews here, I decided to book 10 hours with Mr Cole and I did not regret it! He is an excellent instructor with a great deal of patience. He made me feel confident while driving behind the wheel, while also observing and pointing out areas where I needed to improve after each lesson. He passed on great driving (& parking!) tips and made sure that I was ready for my road test. I passed my driving test the first time and it was about a month after my first lesson with Mr Cole. A good instructor really makes a difference. I highly recommend him without hesitation!

I have recently moved to NC as an adult driver who needed a refresher course on driving. I already had my license for many years but I have never owned a car, and needed to learn to drive immediately for my job. Cole was a great teacher. He was patient and taught me how to drive safely and defensively as a driver. He gave me the confidence to drive to and from work on both the interstate and back roads which is important. After my 5 hour course with him, I was able to drive with more confidence to and from work which was a major fear of mine. I highly recommend Cole if you are an adult driver who needs to get up to speed ASAP on driving. It has been 3 weeks since my course with him, and I still have his voice in my head while I am driving!

I just passed my road test this morning. Mr. Cole is amazing! I was terrified of driving and got so nervous that Id forget to breathe. But he never lost his calm and was always friendly so I could relax. He has many tips on navigating roads and gaining confidence. Hes also super helpful if youre an international student; he knows what forms you need for your road test and areas that international students tend to go, so you can come back even when youre driving alone. He also knows the dmv very well. I didnt realize I had to get there so early but he was prepared with chairs and coffee and everything! Would highly recommend.

Definitely was a great experience! As an inexperienced driver (who understood all traffic laws and had my permit), I was able to apply my hours of driving and instructor-taught strategies to the test and earn my license with after hours of Above Average driving instructed training. Instructor Cole provided great guidance that honestly sent me to driving test feeling extremely confident and prepared. He was also pretty flexible in terms of scheduling making the training process even more convenient.

Mr.Cole is the best instructor. He is VERY patient and he truly believes in you when you don’t even believe in yourself. He teaches very well for inexperienced nervous drivers. My parents and I decided that I needed some driving lessons as a refresher since I had gotten my permit about 2 years ago and was sort of nervous about driving. Never met an driving instructor this patient and supportive; he always managed to calm down my nerves, teach me all the essentials to drive safe and pass the exam, and was willing to work on weekend and super early hours to help me get my license done in my super short preparation period. I find the process of obtaining drivers education very frustrating in Wake County. We signed my son up over a year ago (with Jordan Driving School)and we just finished with the driving portion last week! I just got my license!I suffered from really bad driving phobia and never thought I would drive. So 16 years after the forced drivers ed in highschool, I decided to try. I purchased a 10 hour package with Sandy.My lessons went well. Sandy is a very patient and experienced instructor. He gave me lots of practical advice.It rained during my road test but I just remembered all of the skills he showed me and I passed easily. Im so happy I picked Above Average Driving School and Sandy! I will be buying another 10 hour package for my little sister in a few months.Remember gentle breaking and always be aware of your speed on the exam.

Roger was appointed as my instructor, and he was on time for my 2hr appointment. After all the formalities, we hit the road and Roger instructed me specifically on what to keep in mind for the test as well as in general for driving on the roads. He was very articulate and gave instructions really well. I would definitely recommend above average for anyone who wants to learn for the first time/knows the basics of driving.

I recommend AADS. My experience was great! Mr. Brewer was knowledgeable, personable, patient and accommodating. I passed my road test on the first attempt. He showed me how to pump gas and practical tips for everyday driving as well as exactly everything I needed to know to boost my confidence and pass the exam. As a nervous adult student driver he made me feel comfortable. Though it seems expensive, it is worth it.

I highly recommend this school! It was the most efficient and thorough driving course I could ever invest in. Calvin always answered our phone calls and was there when we needed him. Roger had a great attitude the whole week and was always on time to our appointments! I was very impressed with this school!

I took the 10h lesson package with Sandy. The classes were incredibly helpful- as an adult who had barely driven in the past, it was important for me to learn the rules of the road and handling a car. I passed the road test on my first try! My only practice were the lessons, so they were definitely the key to my success.

Mr. Cole was a wonderful instructor. He focuses on getting you comfortable behind the wheel and is excellent at noticing mistakes and delivering incredibly helpful corrections. I couldnt have passed my test without his help.

So Ive never driven before in my life. I chose Mr. Cole purely based on his reviews here. I did not go wrong. I can tell you that all the positive things about him you read here are completely true. He helped me get over my fear of driving. I only took the 5 hour package but he gave me the confidence of years of driving. He basically taught all possible techniques within the little time we had. I took my test today for the first time and passed. These 5 stars are for him. Thanks Mr. Cole!If anyone without any prior driving experience is reading this, yes, the 5 hour lessons are enough but you need to take some time practicing by yourself before the test. Also, dont go to the Raleigh DMV. Examiners are rude. Good luck.

I learnt how to drive with Mr Cole and I was really impressed with how knowledgeable he was and I honestly came in thinking a driving instructor was useless, but Mr Cole surprised me with his experience and wisdom. I am also an international student and he took care of me very well especially through all the DMV processes. Would totally recommend Mr Cole to anyone looking to drive!

I was trained by Calvin and Mr. Cole who are both fantastic instructors - they made me (who has never touched a steering wheel before) feel very comfortable with driving and taught me everything I needed to know for the test. I didnt have a chance to train with Roger but he took me to take the road test, prepped me and helped me feel confident before the test. Passed on my first try! Would def recommend above average if you want to be great at driving!!!

Mr.Cole is so great and patient when it comes to students. He has great experience working with international students and people like me with 0 driving experience. I passed the test within a month 😂 I never expected I would pass this FAST. Thank you Mr.Cole!

I had the best instructor ever, whose name is Roger! Not only is he a skillful instructor but also a loving and caring person. Had a really great time learning with him. You cant ask for a better instructor than him. So, if you want the perfect instructor, just call Roger!

Let me start off saying Mr. Cole is the best driving instructor in North Carolina period. He push me to limit & overall if it wasn’t for that I would’ve never got my license honestly. Mr Cole is really great. I have no driving experience before. And Mr Cole really calms me down and help me through with all the difficulties I faced. I took one 5-hr and a 2-hr class. And I just passed the road test!

Before I took lessons, I was taught how to drive by some friends who were okay at teaching. I was extremely anxious about my driving, and not that confident. When I took my first road test, I didnt pass and was really discouraged.After taking lessons with Mr. Cole, Im a lot more confident and learned proper techniques for good driving I never knew about before. He really built up my confidence showing me ways to manage my anxiety. And, truly, my entire perspective on driving has changed and its all thanks to him.
