Things started out great almost 5 years ago when we started however things slowly changed. When Mr Currie was removed as Superintendent the main agenda of the school changed and thats just not a direction were interested in.

Very few zoom meetings. Many classes do not have any online meetings at all.The load is enormous! A child has to study and work on his assignment most hours of the day and every weekend to stay afloat. When I saw that my son became anxious about his classes (he never suffered with anxiety before) and hopeless, I pulled him out of this school and enrolled him into a local high school. Now he has more balanced and normal life again.

Great First Year. We have been homeschooling my daughter since she was in first Grade. When she was entering into high school we knew we had to make some changes and found NCCA. It is not a home school but a virtual school which gave my daughter the needed challenge. The first two months was pretty hard. But after getting into the rhythm of things she did fine.I can honestly say that all of the teachers did their best. Of course my daughter liked some teachers more then others, but that is also true in any school. This school is not for every kid. Some kids would struggle with the workload. If you are coming out of a public school this will be more of a challenge (I am assuming here, since we havent had our kids in public schools, but that is my understanding from talking to other parents). Also in this school parents need to be more engaged. Parents need to check their webmail daily to know what is happening. I am shocked on a number of occasions to read online comments how parents are surprised about not knowing something that was clearly communicated in the webmail. This school has more work for parents then your traditional school. Not as much in high school, but for sure in elementary. But the payoff is you know how your child is doing and have a part in their education. So ask questions and know what you are getting into before jumping in.Overall we are satisfied and we are following up my enrolling our son next year.

Love this school - the administration, staff and teachers are dedicated to the students. The one on one attention given to students is beyond anything that is given in a traditional classroom setting. The work is challenging and we love the independent learning spirit that is fostered within constraints of guidance and supervision. The best of both worlds. Learning and growing !!

Great school, curriculum, and staff! They also offer options of completing credits over the summer. This is an excellent option for my son who is able to enjoy the flexibility and focus on training for his sport.

Great School. My 10 year old loves this and he’s doing better now than he ever did in regular school. I love it because it’s flexible and I don’t have to worry about his safety at school.Just to update. They have switched to a new platform and my son is having problems with it. If something doesn’t change soon, I’ll be moving him to another school.

Like one of the others said, it was a huge adjustment coming from a brick & mortar school. If your child does well without constant instruction they will be fine. My son retains more now than he ever did. It takes a lot of involvement from the parents but his education is worth it. Very happy to have the opportunity to try out a different approach to traditional schools. He learns the same curriculum as his friends in other schools and can transfer to a regular school at any time and his credits will be accepted.

NC Connections Academy, you need to update your website regularly to let applicants know BEFORE they apply what grades still have openings!!!! We applied for our son, an arduous process that took a couple of weeks to gather all the information in digital format to forward to them. Then after all that, we are told that they are at capacity and he would be waitlisted. 2 weeks later he is still waitlisted. Precious time was wasted and the deadlines for the NC Virtual Academy application, for example, have passed!!!!!

This school is a miracle for those who want a healthy life balance and are mature enough to stay motivated outside of a traditional setting.

My son absolutely loves attending public virtual school at NCCA. His teacher, Ms. McElveen, is fantastic. My son enjoys the live lessons and the flexibility that he has with NCCA.~Mrs. Adams

This is not a Home School but a virtual public school. The curriculum is outstanding and the teachers really want to teach (with a few exceptions according to some). My child learned more in the first months of NCCA than the entire last year at the old school.

Some of the teachers I have tend to not really do live lessons to help us the student learn more about the stuff we have to read and for me I do better having a teacher show and tell us about what we are learning there is only one teacher who does Live Lessons almost everyday to help us learn and thats the math teacher.

NCCA was a big adjustment for my son and our whole family but it has been amazing. The curriculum is excellent and the teachers are caring and understanding. If you are looking for a truly different educational experience, give NCCA a try.

Really ignore my last comment and review, i believe this is when it went down hill. I joined a couple months late, I’m suppose to be in 11th grade, i am in 10th. I had 8 credits when i transferred and I’m looking to go back to high school because i wanted those credits. i had world history for Mr. Agins and Mrs. Burgess for English, i wanted to be in my right grade so second semester the 4th-5th day of trying to catch up with my ORIGINAL class it threw up “red flags” because i was 90% done, literally i believe they made up a lie and said i had sent the same paper i had sent to my history teacher, before i could respond my credits where taken, if i could show proof i really would because i had all A’s then they went back and changed my grades, i talked to Ms. Dill and she told me that i should not mention to talk to my teachers about changing my grade back because they cannot do that. i literally worked so hard, I’m going to continue because MAYBE i can get all my maths done and science before i go back to my high school. Literally i had both English A done & almost B, had history A done and B done got A’s credit and then taken away without no reasoning, i didn’t call because i didn’t want to waste my time, yes i should’ve but I’d rather take it over again and fly past it then be stuck on it. just please look into other schools, read the reviews.
