With first hand experience as a parent of 1 NCSSM graduate and one currently attending in his junior year. I can tell you its worth the hype. Im not saying theyll get into a better school, which they will. I am saying they will be a more rounded student, be afforded endless educational opportunities, live in a more diverse environment, live with students that have the same drive as themselves, make lifelong friends, be ready for college on day one. My daughter a freshman in college has seen her friends multiple times since graduation, even with them being scattered across the country. Its a bond that will last a lifetime. For the parents that are considering allowing your children to apply and attend if accepted, dont fear theyll be extremely safe at Smath. Number one school in NC NEED I SAY MORE

This is a review for the camps. Our son has loved camps for pre-high school at NCSSM. For kids with a love and aptitude for math and science it is heaven. The camp is somewhat selective as they ask for a teacher recommendation, a student essay and perhaps student records.Camps are one week each and can be day or commuter. My son absolutely loved this camp. The camps fill up early so consider getting on the email list to be alerted for new camps each year.

NCSSM is an incredible school for academically gifted students. Our daughter was accepted here after many years of maximizing her potential in our local school system. Her prospects of a better life in college has been greatly increased after her incredible experience these last two years. We are forever indebted to NCSSM and the staff for their commitment to every student who attends.

Petty, rude, imperious, unhelpful and extremely unimpressive admissions staff that reflects poorly upon the program. Communications are by e-mail only and NCSSM pumps out copious bulk mailings with same header. Students are given a week to get back to them with a decision. No exceptions. So, when you dont realize that e-mail headed NCSSM/Summer Accelerator is actually an admissions message (sitting amidst the rest of their promotional mailings) with a demand for rapid action, too bad. Yes, they have heard it all before and genuinely seem to enjoy your distress. I have spoken with admissions departments at other elite secondary schools and universities and have found them to be universally thoughtful and helpful. NCSSMs people really took me by surprise. The contrast could not be more stark or come as any more of an unpleasant surprise. I actually asked the one fellow if he was joking in response to his inappropriate, unsolicited, hostile rant about their e-mails. Those above him were no better. One cannot avoid being left wondering what the devil is going on there and if it is vaguely possible that such admissions officers could function in a way that best serves applicants and the school.
