If you need to take a Pearson Exam. DONT TAKE IT HERE.I arrived on campus nearly 45 minutes before my scheduled exam. The Wynn Center was difficult to find. In stopping to ask individuals walking around on campus where it was located, they simply stated over there, giving no specific directions. I drove towards the direction in which they encouraged that I go, and found that I pulled into the small semicircle where the campus police office was located and walked inside leaving my car with the caution lights on. I walked into the first office on the right and was addressed by a lady by the last name of Griffin. She was very rude and gave me a hard time about parking outside of the building, which I informed her was only to find directions about where I needed to go, not to actually park. She then proceeded to give me a pass and told me to park across the street in the visitor lot. After leaving the office, I traveled back across the street where I had to search for a parking spot in the visitor lot. I then had to walk across the street to the Wynn center which was behind the campus police office, definitely not in view or able to be recognized in just driving through campus. I arrived at the testing location just 10 minutes before the exam start time, very irritated and flustered. The testing environment was horrible, there were no sound reducing head phones or ear plugs, the seats tables were in rows where you could be easily distracted by the movements of others instead of enclosed cubicles, my seat was not far from a door which had a long window where you could see students walking back and forth, and to put the icing on the cake I didnt get the passing score I needed for the exam.If you have to take a Pearson exam, Id highly recommend that you go to the next nearest center in Durham off of Meridian parkway. This is where I have taken previous exams and I wonder why I ever reconsidered with this one.

I called the school to inquire about our son applying, getting registered for classes and signing up for financial aide... I was kindly greeted, via telephone, by an awesome young man, with a very high standard of customer service, attention to all my questions and all around kind spirit, Rayshawn... Very grateful for the information given to us, the attention to detail and the stress-LESS interaction with him... First impressions speak volumes and Durham Tech, thanks to Rayshawn superseded ours, and represented your college WELL!

Probably going to get what you pay for... Which is not much! For the third semester in a row Ive been advised to sign up for classes not eligable for financial aid. This was no surprise for me, what was a surprise was the lack of help and information provided by the advising and financial aid offices. The only thing they had to offer was the email of my new advisor and refused to let me see the advisor who signed me up for the courses due to a new school policy. Double check what you sign up for if you want financial aid because they dont!

I really enjoy Durham Tech! I got my GED in May 2013. It was a hard thing for me, with a family and a job. But all of my teachers and many of the faculty went above and beyond for me. So I have been going here little by little. I took the placement test in 2013 and my scores was not uploaded. Now they have a new system. No one is able to pull my scores up. Now I have to repeatedly come at different times because you can only take one test at a time. This means missing work for a test i obviously have taken. I even passed trigonometry. I am so disappointed in the way I was not given information over the phone and was told to come here and then all the back and forth is very discouraging.

I go to school here and Ive taken the GED test here. Im reviewing because of the negative comments I read through. Not everyone at the school is rude. If people were unclear or not very willing to help, its because they had classes and tests to get to. There are maps all over the campus, inside and outside, that will get you where you need to go. So if someone didnt help, help yourself and READ. Its no ones obligation to help you. And if people were rude its probably because THERE ARE SIGNS EVERYWHERE TELLING YOU WHERE YOU NEED TO BE. I love my school and all my teachers. The staff are beyond supportive and kind. I didnt graduate high school and I was out of school for 4 years, felt like an idiot but my teachers and even teachers that arent mine, are patient and go above and beyond. Mr Phil, Ms Hall and Ms Coleman are the best teachers there & when I finish with my degree its all because of those 3.

This review is for the Beyond Basic ESL.If you can drive to Raleigh to take English classes in other Colleges you will save money and time, but if you dont have a choice and need to take the Beyond Basic ESL classes at Duham tech this is the info you need to know:1) After talking to several international students and taking several classes myself, the only teachers that are worth taking are the ones listed as follows:Elizabeth Leggett and John AndrewsPlease check if these are the teachers that teach the classes you are signing up for. They are very good ESL teachers.2) The coordinator does a terrible job in selecting the teachers for this program. The teachers (except the two names mentioned above) have no clue how how to teach English language for foreigners. You will learn the wrong way and you will get confused with their answers. They wont correct you properly. I have never heard so many complaints about the teachers in a college as I have heard about the ones teaching in this program. The classes are painful.3) In case you decide to take this classes anyway, make sure to figure out if the classes are the right fit for your level in the first week. Go in person to talk to the coordinator to cancel the class and get your refund. Again, I insist if you feel that the teacher is not a good fit for you in the first week dont continue his/her class because things will get worse in the following weeks. Request your 75% money back right away.I made the huge mistake in waiting for 2 1/2 weeks to see if the terrible teacher would get better which he didnt, this mistake cost me $260, because the coordinator refused to give me the refund, even though she knew that several students were complaining about the same teacher. All of us begged her to give us the money back or change to other classes. Nothing was made. Extremely frustrating. The great thing about this program is that the classmates are very nice and hard worker people. It is a shame that Durham Tech Community College doesnt care about recruiting knowledgeable ESL teachers to help the international students who come to U.S. to improve their English.

DTCC is the 3rd community college that I have worked for in my career in higher education. I know for a fact that those of us in my office care a great deal about the students and go above and beyond to be of assistance. Within my first few weeks I was asked to meet with the President of the college. I was shocked, I had worked for 2 years at a school in Delaware and I never saw even a picture of the President let alone meet with him! From the moment I walked in for my interview I knew that this place was home. I look forward to many more years serving the students of Durham Tech.

The professor was not helpful and didn’t allow me to sit in on the class anyway.

Durham Tech determined that I was an Out-of-State student because I have not been a resident of NC for 12 months at the time of application, rather than 12 months at the start of classes (which is what the State law states). And they refused to retroactively change my status, despite their mistake. So I was illegally charged triple the tuition for my 1st semester.I was charge In-State for my 2nd semester. However, my refund was due in February, like everyone elses. Direct deposit. But I never received it. Financial Aid was blaming the Business Office and vice versa. March rolled around. Same thing. No one was processing my refund. April came and went. It is now the end of May, going on June. June. My refund was due in February and it is June. The Business Office still has not sent out my refund. They refuse to. They outright stated that I must show up in person to receive paperwork to get notarized. The classes are not the problem. It is the support staff. They are swindling crooks. They have little integrity. Do NOT go to Durham Tech. Go to another school. Even if you have to do it online. These people should be investigated.UPDATE: A member of the staff hand-delivered my refund check to my door. That was nice.

Only go here if you dont mind putting up with a ton of crap, or if you dont care about anything. Maybe its a pretty good school but they have literally screwed me over on everything. They have refused to grant me all of the credits I earned in High School that the UNC and NC State systems would have granted me. My advisor seems like a nice guy but he doesnt know anything about the school and is a pretty terrible advisor, failing to tell me that there were several forms I needed to complete in order to receive my federal loans and in-state status for fall semester. They dont allow private student loans from banks and hardly offer enough loans to pay tuition and live off of. Phone calls are never answered, nor messages returned. There is no notification for classes being scheduled at the other campus (a 25 minute drive) 15 minutes after a class at the main campus. No one ever wants you to contact the dean, ever, no matter how many people you fight. They just want you to give up. Im currently battling with admissions to receive in-state status. Despite working in NC for 7 months, driving a vehicle and paying NC insurance for a vehicle registered in NC for a year, having an NC drivers license and voters registration for a year, paying several NC bills in my name and having a lease for an apartment in NC in my name, DTCC is still refusing to approve in-state status because they dont think Im financially independent and because my mother claimed me as a student on her 2015 tax return. And while Ive been waiting to pay my tuition several days after the due date, which I was notified of about 2 weeks before the due date, suddenly, $200 of my federal grant has disappeared! I called and emailed the school to find out what happened, but I literally got messages saying that phone calls wont be answered, voice mails wont be returned, and emails wont be read because everyone is too busy with walk-in students. Im giving 2 stars because I have had overall good experiences with most of my classes and professors. The campus is generally well-kept and its as safe as it could be considering the location. Most of the staff are friendly, its just impossible to find anyone who actually knows what theyre talking about. I cant even tell you how many times Ive been straight up told I dont know by paid professionals at this school. I understand that the school must have a very low budget, but I have been very let down. Im now starting my 3rd semester here, and I really hope this school will be able to turn around and change my mind over the next two semesters.

I was looking into different colleges in my around to chose which one to go to in the fall and my experience here was off putting. I went to the admissions office and told the guy at the desk I wanted to meet with an advisor or anyone that could sit down with me and help me with some information about the school. He said oh well I can give you the website and everything you need will be on there. I said I already looked at the website I just wanted to talk to someone face to face and ask them questions regarding classes, my major, etc. he then walked over to a computer and said here Ill show you a list of our classes on here. I already read the list of the classes the school offers I JUST WANTED TO TALK TO AN ADVISOR. Needless to say he kept pushing me away and urging me to look at the website. Is that how you handle new students wanting to get information on the school and ask questions about your programs? Sorry id rather sit down with a real person to discuss my education.

I have been a student at Durham Technical Community College for the last two years and have been nothing but satisfied! Faculty and staff go above and beyond for the most part to assist students in their endeavors. I would and do reccomend this college, especially the transfer program. They have a Transfer Center and the Deans of each College Transfer department are the best! They work really hard trying to keep students informed of happenings and opportunities. If you want to know things you can type in the search bar on our websites home page and there it is! This is college not a high school holding students hands, so it is the responsibility of student to become an informed participant in his/her experience here.

Terrible. I was wanting to study OTA at Durham Tech. I had applied and completed all of my required documentation for aid. I was already a little upset, because since I have a Bachelors degree, I could not qualify for grants or scholarships. In spite of that, I was determined. So I had my transcripts from my Alma mater sent over and evaluated. I had taken a Chemistry course with the lab and got an A- and a B+, however, Durham Tech DID NOT accept it. How could you possibly have taken a course at a four-year institution, and it wont transfer to a COMMUNITY COLLEGE??? I wouldnt have been so upset had I not needed this course as a prerequisite for the OTA program. I spoke to two different transcript evaluators. One said I needed to retake it, and the other said that she would get back to me, but never did. So I swallowed that too and signed up to take the class. Now mind you, I work 60 hours a week and dont have time to run up to the campus every time I have a question. I already had to take off of work to complete the placement tests and take care of last minute details. When I was calling up to the school to inquire about my aid, NO ANSWER. I sent emails, NO RESPONSE. Finally, after getting someone in the Connect Center two weeks later, I find out that their OTA program is not covered by financial aid. WOW. So when I found this out, I quickly withdrew from the Chemistry course and lab, even after paying $200 for the required textbook. I refuse to pay for a course out of pocket to not receive aid for the program its going towards. When I called about my withdrawing, then and ONLY then, did I receive a call back. Of course! They want MONEY; and seeing as I had only paid the first installment, they werent going to get paid the extra $300 for the class. About two weeks after I withdrew, $30 was drafted from my bank account from Durham Tech WITHOUT my authorization or notice. WHY? When I called the Business office, of course I reached nothing but an answering machine. So I called the Connect Center, of which the girl was not helpful. Then when she said she would transfer me back to the Business office (who has not returned my calls), she hung up on me. When I checked my online Self-Service, there was a credit listed there for $91.50. So, if Im supposed to be credited my registration fee, why am I being charged $30; especially since Im no longer a student? Not only did this school waste my money, it definitely wasted time. No thank you. This was, by far, the biggest educational mistake Ive made. Save yourself the stress.

Arts, Sciences, and University Transfer is the best! Transfer Center is full of great information, Ms Cupitt is only part time but does more that many full time advisors, she is a great asset. You have to take charge and follow through because the place has a bunch of workers who are clueless, unprofessional (in speech and appearance) and could not care less.
