School prohibits all activities that are enjoyable during non class hours, This School is run by the least empathetic and caring staff ever, every teacher who was even the slightest bit caring or kind to students was fired average teacher there only lasts a couple years with such a ruthless and budget cutting administration that tells teachers My way or the highway. The administrative practices and structure in punishing students are a stain on the great reputation of Connecticuts schools

I was in a difficult position in high school. I didnt have any understanding of any difficulties and how to manage such difficulties. Looking back at Franklin academy I recognize my own short comings in me putting forth a full effort in my time there but also in retrospect I did not receive any meaningful help into understanding myself and recognizing any of my core strengths and how to cope with my struggles with my own mental health. I understand that for some it does work but I find that was mostly due to the kids and social environment they were in rather than the support or education received at Franklin. Most of the staff seemed overwhelmed when kids had meltdowns and couldnt spare the attention to manage such situations appropriately. I hope one day this institution finds away to help kids more than it does just take in money.

We found Franklin after a national search - it is a rare gem! Amidst very difficult middle school years, our son deserved to be educated by a team of experts who understood his unique learning challenges and recognized his gifts and strengths. Finding a high school that was the right fit was critical - to insure that he was nurtured and supported. I was confident in my heart that he was college bound, but first he needed to feel safe, to belong. From there he would, and he has, grown and excelled! Of course!Franklin has provided small, intimate academic and social experiences with expert understanding of how he sees the world and where he needs support and to be challenged. Academically, they offer curriculum that is flexible, responding to each students needs. As a junior, he is thriving in college level math courses and electives. The passion of the faculty is remarkable, the academic brilliance so impressive. The relationships inspire my son and his learning is passionate and joyful. This year is one of college tours and choices. Franklin has bridged his education from difficult middle school years to a student ready for college years at the best schools in the country.Thats a good education!

Very poorly run school with lots of very troubled kids who are often unattended and in stressful situations and academics are very standard public school basic courses. Not worth your money when its basically an extra white public school with the price tag of a fancy collage.

Franklin Academy is a wonderful place for students with a learning disability like myself. Franklin Academy has a tight knit and friendly community of staff and students and has helped me grow in many ways since I first started here and it has prepared me socially and academically and in other ways for life after Franklin including college and what may come after. If you are looking for a place that specializes with kids who have learning disabilities and who are on the spectrum I would highly recommend Franklin Academy.

PRE-REVIEW: Now, I know this isnt going to be that type of review where Ive been there for so long and am now writing my thoughts about it. No, for now, I actually decided to write what I predict my overall experience will be before I actually start over my entire time there.Well, something I can go off of is the reviews that others have sent about this place, and most importantly, the way the school handled that. Like, it actually redefined how schools handled constructive feedback given to it for my definition.First and foremost, majority of reviews (except for the last 2 which are definitely not thought out, thus seeing no reply there) were almost 90% positive. This includes stuff like really good food for taste, and daily diets, people being nice in general, and the list goes on. And also replies from the school like, Wow, this is a well thought out review, while maybe not having really impressive back up facts, certainly good ones nonetheless have really proven to me that school actually CAN handle feedback from their student via something like this.

I have been going to this school for around a year and a half. I went because it was supposed to be somewhere that helped out with people who had minor troubles regarding social life. This ended up being somewhat true. I did improve after being at the school and it was relatively safe for me, but it had many glaring problems that disturb the experience compared to others(tuition higher than even Ivy Leagues, worse athletics, classes which feel more unbearable, counselors only can talk on certain days and times). When my friends and I noticed, we discussed it with staff. But instead of them trying to mend the problems, they dismissed as us being negative and that a solution could be us just being “positive”; this is a difficult task when the problems are so densely there in your experience on the daily. Being told these things showed that this school isn’t even open to constructive feedback. This underlines a problem that causes many staff and students to leave after only being there for a short time. In fact, many of the popular teachers leave after only working there for a year or two despite them being favorites of the students. If the well-liked teachers leave, then only one who is oblivious would think that the situation is fine.Despite them preaching social skills, the staff have acted rudely to students and clearly broke their own code. One of them mocked my good friend for his political views in supporting a less-popular presidential candidate. A high-ranking member of the administration got dismissive at me for simply telling another teacher that I lost my water bottle after we had a school trip (he may have had a point tho) . Some staff tolerate students who act super misogynistic, while restricting the ones who call it out. This is something that people should know about. One major problem, which was the nail in the coffin for my family, is the fact that the staff report many things to parents that often aren’t true. After sending home the report, they later backtrack and say it was a misunderstanding, but only after telling parents. This has happened to me and my friends before, which makes us justifiably feel defensive.Another terrible thing is that the moment I left, they didnt send me back my favorite presentation that many teachers and parents liked. I worked hours and hours on it, got a 90% on it, and learned many things while making it. But they deleted all that work without giving me a chance to download or save it. This might seem minor but it just proved to me one of Linkin Parks songs absolutely true you try so hard, get so far, but in the end it doesnt even matter. (this felt bad but then I learned about how many times peoples essays arent returned so it isnt a big deal)Again, this school has many good aspects. It provides a mostly safe community where people can gain more friends from both other students and teachers. It also feels different in that it lets people who are autistic be themselves rather than in other schools where we have to pretend to be neurotypical. The food is amazing. Even some of the staff are fantastic people. Every experience at Franklin is different yet few of them are stellar for everyone can see the problems from miles away.Edit : rephrased a few things to be more clear and neutral.

Franklin is a great school! The only thing is that the program won’t work if the student thinks that they do not need to change or are unwilling to accept feedback or make changes. A lot of people that end up hating it only hate it because they have to change behaviors and/or do challengeing things they have not had to do in the past. A lot of kids come into the school with a “poor me” attitude which can come from being very spoiled, and at franklin they are not going to get their way all the time. I never thought I would say I love learning, homework, and school but I was proved wrong.

Horrible scam! The staff had so little faith in me they forced the psychologist to put me on more medication to make me behave. They are not used to typical autistic behaviors and have no idea how to deal with them. Lack of after school or weekend activities is an issue and the staff are both teachers and residential so are overworked.
