I went with kids to one session. I was very impressed by the way every kid was treated with respect and encouraged to participate in healthy activity. This is indeed a family. They teach kids very good skills as part of their training. Well done!

We have been going to AKF martial arts academy for a few months now and the instructors here are AMAZING! The class we are going to are fantastic for us, with the instructor being fun and professional at the same time. There is a real sense of pride in the dojo that you can’t help but be part of, thanks to the variety of training we go through each class. You are allowed to advance as fast as you are able to while being able to perfect your skills for each level as you feel comfortable with. At our first meeting with the people here we were asked what we wanted out of training here, and as training continues, you can tell that they paid attention to what we asked for by the tailoring of how the instructors choose to teach when individually interacting with them. I have trained for a couple years before in an individual style that had allowed me to be able to truly appreciate the environment that they have here. There are multiple disciplines that are taught, with a variety of styles that just aren’t available at other places to learn all in one location. I am extremely impressed with AKF martial arts academy, and I look forward to seeing just how far I will go in what I am sure will be years to come.

Our experience with AKF was not one we would repeat. Our son was initially very excited to participate but quickly lost interest as he lacked the focus needed for many of the exercises. This was an issue we discussed at the initial consult and we were assured they worked with children with similar issues all the time and it wouldnt be a problem. Well, it became a problem so when we asked for private lessons to help build his confidence and strengthen his skills, the instructor dropped the ball and never set anything up with us despite an email stating she would be happy to do so. Other issues I found concerning were: (1) We were never given a copy of the contracts we signed with all the fine print, (2) The use of Korean terms would have been fine if they had given parents a handout for us to reference when practicing at home, and (3) Slow email responses on important items, compounded by short hours at the academy. For $117 a month, we expected more.

I have been part of this academy for 12 years now.. gosh how time flies! I have seen my older two children attain their black belts, growing personally into strong adults. My youngest is moving through the ranks now and I have absolutely LOVED the opportunity to train with my children! There is no where else that you can do this kind of thing with your kids and grow together physically and mentally the way you do with martial arts. Highly recommend!

My Son has gone here for years, and unfortunately due to COVID-19 and needing to protect certain family members my son was no longer able to continue. AKF sent out a nice email notifying that classes would be suspended and accounts would be compensated on the backend of membership . I copied the email, for further proof and attached it below. After realizing that we would not be continuing class I contacted Chester to let him know that we will have to cancel our membership. When we received our receipt for reimbursement it failed to include the three months that Chester promised to compensate due to the shutdown. He then stated that it was only for the students that were committed through the COVID-19 pandemic. After seeing that AKF has chose shady business practices over respecting a person’s decision, more importantly a student that has committed years at your facility the least that you can do is follow through with what you said. Kind of ironic that much of what is talked about is doing what’s right, and in the end “Chester” couldn’t even follow through.EMAIL BELOWAs we continue to monitor and heed recommendations concerning group gathering sizes, we have decided to pause face-to-face classes at AKF, as of today (3/17/2020) at the receipt of this email . We plan to resume face-to-face classes on April 6th, in line with the public school schedule. This date is tentative and will be confirmed as we get closer. What does this mean for your Kyuki-Do training? As noted we’re going to provide online content from the Federation and AKF EC. We will be compensating you for your time off on the back end of your programs. IE if AKF EC is closed for 3 weeks we will add three weeks of training to your expiration date of your current program.

As a person with a disability (amputation of a leg), I can only say the instructors go out of their way to help and modify any techniques to allow myself to achieve my goals. The instructors are amazing and patient as well as very knowledgeable. Both my daughter and myself have found a wonderful home here at AKF.

Ive been so impressed by the way Chester really cares about his students: not only their increasing skill as athletes, but also making sure they grow into mature, responsible leaders. I appreciate the fact that he allows students to spar in tournaments but doesnt require it. My boys were always reluctant to hurt someone. They would have benefitted from his approach. Im just sorry Chester wasnt around during my days as a karate mom.

My son has been training with AKF Martial Arts Academy of Eau Claire for the past 2.5 years and it continues to be a life altering experience for him. The family-style focus of the classes allows for a naturally supportive and inclusive environment while providing my son role models to look up to as well as opportunities for him to mentor newer students. Master Gustavson utilizes a three-fold approach to rank advancement that measures effort & behavior at home, school and the academy. My son understands that his success is not solely measured by his efforts on the mat but instead it’s measured by his actions in all facets of his life. Master Gustavson and the staff are teaching the students how to be exceptional humans and active members of society. Thats a priceless lesson! I’d recommend AKF Martial Arts of Eau Claire to anyone. Give it a try - you won’t be disappointed!

My family has been attending this Academy for over 3 years, we have grown alot together. Watching each other struggle and succeed in learning martial arts have been eye opening for all of us. We each have our own ways to deal with difficulties, and that includes other students. I have come to love many of the other students as family. I care about many of them, I am proud of them also when they conquer challenges and fears. This place have given me more than an understanding of martial arts, it has shown me more of what kind of person I can choose to be. What kind of people my kids will be. I love the Instructors both Mrs. Lee and Mr. Gustavson, they care about our personal goals as well as helping us to obtain our belt levels. Many of my favorite family memories are in this school, I am glad I signed up with my children. I love to see how proud I make them as much as I am of them.

My Husband and I enrolled our two boys- ages 5 and 7- into AKF Eau Claire a little over a year ago. Within the first 2 weeks, I saw a great deal of improvement in their every day lifestyles! Our 5 year old has always had a tough time focusing and staying on task, however- we are breaking that cycle now with giving him Martial Arts! AKF Eau Claire has a wonderful staff that will take the time and effort needed to helping your childs specific needs. It has taught both of our boys self confidence, proper Sir and Maam manners, to never give up no matter how tough the situation may be, to always help others, and much more! This Academy goes above and beyond the rest! The family style training and support is incomparable. While we attended class to observe our children we thought to ourselves This looks fun and beneficial all around! Therefore, just 4 months after our boys were enrolled, my Husband and I joined as well! Now we are ALL learning and growing together. I cant even put into words how this has helped our family in many aspects! We are all setting goals together, and helping each other train inside and outside of the Academy. How has it helped my Husband and I as adults? We are gaining strength through our mind, body, and soul. The training that is provided helps in every day scenarios- whether its self defense, self confidence, perseverance, or setting goals. My husband who has always been an introvert is finding himself more of an extrovert now and that says a lot! We are extremely proud to be a part of such a strong and positive KyuKiDo family at AFK Eau Claire. I highly recommend it to everyone! If there was one thing I would change, it would be to have joined sooner! Its never too late to better yourself and/or your loved ones.Sara Gilbert

I enrolled my (then) 4 year old son after meeting Mr. Gustavson at the Kids Expo at the Sports Center this past Winter. In the 6 months he has attended, my son has learned so much more than just kicking and punching (which he loves) but he also is learning patience, respect, teamwork and even using the breathing techniques he learned when he gets upset. His attitude is changing for the better and I am grateful to the wonderful instructors Mr. Gustavson and Ms. Lee for being great role models for him also.
