I sent my daughter to this center in 2007. I have nothing bad to say. She went in a loud mouth disrespectful, lazy, bad choice making, headed down the wrong road teen. Came out w/ a HSD & CNA, humble, loving accountable teenager, they taught her respect & humility she came home each weekend a better child & when she finished she was awesome, scrubbing the shower tile, cleaning, folding, respectful lips & did I say humble. Apologized & thanked me for all that I have done for her. Now 31 a super Mom herself & still humble, respectful & accountable, loving, caring and I love her even more. Best decision I made for her. Its truly what you make of it.

I went to Edison job Corps from 96-97. I really enjoyed my stay there. The staff were great & extremely helpful. I received my drivers license, my GED and a certificate in Business & Clerical. I completed my courses in 11 months. Ill recommend anyone to job Corps as Ive done already. Its really up to an individual on how long they stay there. Once youre serious, the journey is smooth. THANKS EDISON JOB CORPS

I went to this Job Corps from 10/97 - 4/98 in 6 months I got my diploma (first time no retakes) & a security trade, when I graduated they gave me a 480$ check also...I thank Job Corps for saving my life, I was in the streets & 1 more bad decision away from getting killed or going to prison, if you go here with determination to make it you will be fine but if you go just for 3 hots & a cot you will find yourself stuck watching the years go by....stay focused

I arrived at Edison JobCorp in January 2007. I became a man in JobCorp. Found out who I was. And accepted Jesus Christ as my LORD and Savior. I loved it there. I made some good friends and met some interesting people. If you are a young man thinking about going, then I advise you to be kind and friendly to everyone but avoid the bad crowd and don’t let the young women be a distraction for you.

I attended Edison job corps over 37 years ago it made a difference in my life after completing the program with assistance from staff I was placed in a county payed job with full benefits. For the students to be successful you have to respect and follow the program rules. That was not difficult for my orientation class my entire class became successful business owners nurses most of us still keep in touch. Our meeting ground is in NJ every year . Hopefully this year I will be retiring still employed with county for 35 years and loving it .Program can work if you allow your self to do so .

If you are considering going to Job Corps, that is a good thing and very positive. Job Corps can do a lot for you. However, please do not choose this center. It is not a center that is worth your time, I came from a Job Corps center that treated you well, heard your individual problems and didnt impose restrictions on your person that were unreasonable. This center lacks serious funding, common decency and personal freedoms no person should go without. You will be screamed at in the morning and afternoon. Your personal items will be searched through every night. You will not be able to leave campus everyday and you will have to wait until they deem you responsible enough to leave from 4 - 9pm. I came to this center to advance my opportunities after graduating from another center, I was met with a complete lack of tools to better my chosen career path. You will eat and you will have a bed, if you need those necessities it is worth it. If not, I strongly urge you to reconsider enrolling in this specific center. There are plenty of options other than Edison, they are all better. Aside from searching your things coming in and out of the center, there is no discipline enforced on any student. The only way you will get terminated here is from fighting or obvious drug use. Everything else will fly under the radar.

You wont like everything about everyone or anywhere no matter where you are. Job corps was an amazing experience for me overall. Met amazing long time friends till this day and amazing memories, as well as a trade and my driver license and its was all FREE!!! got a small allowance but it paid for my phone bill at the time, you learned about taking responsibilities in the dorms by doing details(chores) & you had a free bed to sleep in. I was on the leadership team and although i had moments, looking back, I would do it all over again. (2014-2016)

This place was a nightmare. I wouldnt wish this place on my worst enemy. The food was insanely disgusting. Even when I joined the student government, we couldnt do anything to change it, or anything else about this nasty place. You would see fights every single day. It was near impossible to get kicked out too. They needed kids to graduate, even if they didnt have the right skills, so that they could get more federal funds.I was in the advanced IT program after completing the regular IT program in a different state. That meant I got to live in the new womens dorm. That place was like living in prison. They had like one hot water heater for like 40 girls. So there was never any hot water past 5AM. Every day the staff did inspections. That means they went through your underwear and anything else you had. We were warned that every article of clothing we had must be folded, even our underwear. My room was written up once for having a towel on the towel rack. So you can see how insane they were. Any little thing they could do to make you upset or piss you off, they did. It was like a game for them. There was an older black guy in the new womens dorm too. He HATED all white people. If you had to talk to him. He would give you the meanest look like he wanted to bash your head in. If you had someone with you who wasnt white. He would only talk to them and completely ignore you if you said anything (or tell you to shut up if you tried to talk again).I went in Fall and Winter. It was so incredibly cold all the time. They never salted the sidewalks, so you were slipping and sliding all the way to class. I remember one time I was in class and it was so cold. I asked the instructor if they could turn up the heat (you needed a maintenance key). After lunch, he said they came and would only make it go up one degree. You could feel the wind coming in from the door I was next to. I never felt warm in that class. This place is Hell. Stay away.

Leaving in about a week my Job Corps experience was more than lackluster. Some of the staff are condescending while others are amazing people. The dorms need better maintenance and the studend life is toxic toward LGBTQ students. However, the opportunity to get a fresh start in a job/career is very much prominent. So if you have what it takes to last about a year or more here i suggest do it. If not do not waste your time

If you like everything on the menu being spicy hot and seeing everyone shoveling hot sauce by the ladel over everything so you can get second hand heartburn. This is the place for you. If you want to get pushed into learning things you never in a million years wanted to know, by the adults. This is the place for you. And if you are mildly amused at learning that there was a fire alarm because a boy decided it would be more romantic to do interesting things with a girl in an industrial trash container with a lot candle. This is the place for you.But if you cant stop laughing at the absurdity of all these actions. Then I suggest you pick another technical school to go to.

I started Edison Corps October 2015 Graduated in August 2017 ... I was in the offfice administration trade and as well in the college program for 1 year... My overall experience was amazing I worked on campus , in elite new women’s Dorm leadership and Student Government Association Vice President 2016 and staff was amazing to me while there for the time being ... they helped me get what I wanted out of the program .... I learned everything that I needed to know to go out into the workforce .. they worked with me every step of the way .. and it is still life changing for me. Job corps is not about relationships ,friendships or to play games ..it’s about giving life a second chance ... if you sign up for the program come with your head on straight and ready to learn.. only you can make the best of your own experience in the program

Terrible experience for my son. 14 sleepless nights for me. They told my son nothing but lies. Tell me to buy all these things that he didnt need, like sheets. My son went on his own accord to make his life better and was treated like an inmate. He got jumped by a bunch of crips. The worker closed the door and told them it was ok. Turned a blind eye then my son got cut and no medical care. Fed him jail food. Dont send your child to this program if you dont have to. What a waste of time, money and energy. DONT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE!!!

Speaking as someone who went to Job Corps as a student and worked there as a staff member, I have a slightly unique take on the center.First and foremost, if possible, be a non-res student. The food provided is mostly sustenance and isnt necessarily made to appeal to the diverse population the center has. Also, the living situation, outside of the elite dorm, is tolerable but certainly wont feel like a second home. Especially since only the elite dorm has a modern look and the rest you can see are aged and havent been modernized. Not to forget, in the dorms, you will have a roommate and considering Job Corps tries to give people second chances, unfortunately, some bring their old ways to the campus and that means people partaking in illegal activities. Not all, but enough where, if you arent used to living with or amongst that, it can be quite jarring. Thats on top of not just cleaning your space, but behind other people who can be quite disgusting. Also, it should be noted that there are issues with bullying, kids having sex, and more. There are deterrents in place, but between staff quantity, and being unable to help those who say something consistently, the problems persist. As for staff, in general, taking note of being on both sides, you get staff who do truly, deeply, care for students - even beyond making sure they graduate, but there are also people strictly worried about numbers. There is also the issue of morale not being the best, because of the number pushers, and this causing fatigue among staff and with a population which sometimes doesnt have the best decorum, it leads to negative reactions. Especially since many of the rules can sometimes feel a bit much for students and staff arent consistent, across the board, when it comes to enforcement. Either because they dont agree with the rule, because students get aggressive when trying to enforce, or they are so jaded they just dont want the headache.Education wise, the blue collar trades, which have union workers, usually performed far better than the softer trades, and had better results. However, if you dont have your GED or HSD, you may find taking a hard trade frustrating as youll either have to do half day in school or alternating every week.Speaking of getting your diploma, being that JC has a rolling enrollment (every week), it makes it so everyone in the class are at different levels and it makes it hard to teach. Thus making it where students really have to put in an effort or else they may have the same problems they had at their old school.Bringing back the trades, the soft trades, Culinary, Nursing, and Office Administration, get a bad rep but also have some kinks to work out. In comparison to the hard trades, Nursing and OA (as it is called) can be considered less engaging. Culinary, because youre cooking all the time, sometimes helping the JC staff, only gets complained about when there are too many students. For with that popular program, the kitchen size doesnt meet demand. This, unfortunately, has led to students being shifted and assigned to OA, making that trade sometimes a bit of a mess. Nursing isnt as much an issue but there is a huge amount of book work and while there is instruction, many have said you more so get an adviser than someone holding your hand through everything. So, overall, Id say if you take note the program is free, offers you an education which can cost 1000s of dollars, helps you get your license (I got mine through the program - and extra lessons to prep), then it balances out many of the things which might be difficult. For it will be beaten into your head youre supposed to see this as a job environment and I feel, taking that seriously, it will make what other people consider annoying, immature, or sometimes hardline bosses or co-workers seem easy to deal with in comparison. For what you ultimately will leave with is not just pieces of paper but an adaptability and resilience that most you compete with for jobs likely wont have.

I loved Edison Job Corps. If you go you need to go with a mind set on bettering you life and experiences. I took the Office Administration trade at Edison Job Corps, and it was a bit out of control, thats only because the rep that course has is easy and fast Therefore, all the adolescent troublemakers go there to get out fast. The staff is another story. Some dont care, but some care more than a person would expect. Bottom line, Edison JC is what you choose to make of it. I loved it.

This Job Corps center was better and more controlled than Earle C. Clements in Morganfield, KY. The food is 5 times better than Earle C.s It is a smaller center and more centralized to a city which means a lot of things are within walking distance. Rooms are smaller, no tv or microwaves in the rooms, 4 people to a room. The center director is a jerk though and he doesnt care about the students. Watch out for Groundhog holes because they are every where.

Only thing you really need to know about this place is, If your not serious about getting a Trade, Drivers License, and HS Diploma and or GED, Dont waste anyones time especially yourself. Most people who put bad reviews of JC are normally the ones who didnt make it. Its possible as long as your serious about getting your life together. Pro Tip: Dont make too many friends and focus on you. After all its why you go there.

This was a horrible experience for my son and family. We went there and they made it seem like as long as you do what you have to everything will be OK. Nope my son got threatened as soon as the director was gone and told there going to steat his clothes. We told the supervisor and on top of that his lock key did not work so he was unable to lock up his belongings. Once he stepped out the room to speak to tge supervisor they stole everything right down to his food. They get this government money to help people and they dont even care about you and do not do anything to make sure people are safe. When leaving the sucirty guard was like your mothers here get out.. Scumbags run this site. Dont waste your time till there is a overhaul at this institution

The head director calls herself the head ni.... In charge not very professional if you ask me.. I was bullied everyday for the color of my skin, to the hair on my very head when a staff member saw me crying she enourage me to reach out to the director and she told me she would make sure no one harass me the next day it got worse.. I couldnt eat or sleep. And the very girls who tormented me lived in my room. When i went to tell director she told me its my fault for not sticking up for myself and for having a trangender boyfriend .She told me i was asking to be made fun of and said everyone is allowed to have their opinion and by me not hiding it i was allowing others to make fun of me. I dont no who made me feel smaller ... the director or those girls. Also staff dont properly document incidents and follow up with higher ups, ..I was standing inside the office having a one one one about how scared i was..standing next to staff member ,when a trainee. ..ran out of the dorm and yelled you b.... And tried to smack me in my face as i pulled away fast i noticed later on a light scratch on my face. The staff member said dont worry i will have security guard escort you to your classes, She also swore she wrote incident report but when i followed up with the director she said i was lying and she did not receive any information regarding the incident.Even after security spoke to my culinary teacher about why i was late she still denied knowing anything about incident and stuck to her story of how she believes im lying because her exact words You think I dont do my detective work, I know all about you pretending to be scared .That was the last straw i voluntarily left after that, for someone to not believe me made me upset but for a director to not to care about my safety on campus as the girl lived on my room thats a whole another issue. They have no cameras to prove when some is getting physically and emotionally abused and that is why so many people get bullied.I forgot to mention at job corp they give students extra credit to write positive reviews in the office adminstraticn class, so think about that when you read most of these review as i witness it first hand on my first day there at edison job corp

I have been extremely disappointed with the enrollment process. The representative that Ive had the unfortunate opportunity to deal with is irresponsible, disorganized and unprofessional. The first day of orientation was palatable but upon return with the additional documentation that was not mentioned before attending orientation, the rep had lost my sons original documentation. I made a fuss and somehow his birth certificate and social security card showed up in a folder. My son then attended the tour on a Wednesday and supplied the additional documents requested by the rep for that same day and of course the rep was not available and my son was told to make an appointment for another day.On the 3rd visit, my son was informed that he needed additional documentation after much confusion about who he was and why he was there after making an appointment with the same representative. On the 4th visit with the additional documentation in hand for a 10 am meeting, we were not seen until 10:45 am. Granted, the front desk people didnt inform him that we were there, but he didnt check to see if we had arrived either. On top of this, the rep was defensive and attempted to blame my child for HIS inadequacies plus he was unable to find my sons folder and started the 3rd folder without putting his name on it yet again. This experience has been horrendous and I worry about what my son will actually learn about being organized, professional and responsible.
