Bostonia Language Academy is an outstanding school. Our accomplishments have been recognized by over 100 superintendents from all over the country. These superintendents not only loved our school but they want to bring their own teachers to see what a phenomenal academic experience we are providing to our students. Furthermore, our school has been mentioned by the White House for the emphasis in computer science in Spanish. Our Principal, Mrs. Jacobo, is an expert, progressive, and innovative leader. I am extremely proud of working for such a dedicated, caring, and supportive administrator. Our school is a place for creative, collaborative, flexible, and hard working teachers. As a veteran teacher, who has worked at several schools with different principals, I am honored to work with professionals whose heart and passion are geared for the best interest of our students. Come and visit our school to experience a friendly, inviting and peaceful environment.

My kids have been going here for three years. And I am beyond satisfied with my childrens education. They learn to read and write in both English and Spanish. Not only is this a bilingual school, but also a computer science school. Something that most elementary schools dont offer. I am amazed with all the programs they learn on their chromebooks. Mrs. Jacobo, the principal along with the many teachers are very friendly. I highly recommend Bostonia Language Academy.

All the staff here are amazing. They really are there to support you in any way possible. I was nervous not knowing how my kindergarten would do since he knows no Spanish. Now a month and a half later, this kid is speaking, singing and writing in Spanish. Im so impressed. I love this school, how they encourage every student to learn and support one another.

My daughter goes to the Language Academy here and it is Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. She is learning Spanish and English and computer coding and shes only in kindergarten. The teachers are fantastic, the Principal is tremendous and I dont have enough positive adjectives for this place. The change in my daughter since going to this school has been astronomical. She is challenged and in a great environment and we will probably stay in a city im not too keen on just so her, and soon her brother, can keep going to this school. There is a waiting list and a test before you get in, but once you do, good things.

I have two students at Bostonia, one in 5th and one in 3rd grades. I am a teacher myself and my kids’ grandma is a retired teacher who volunteers in my kids classes several days a week, so I have a good idea of what actually is going on in the classes from both a parent’s and teacher’s perspective.I am very happy with their learning. We are an English only household but both of my kids are above grade level in both English and Spanish. My older daughter began at Jamacha before all the dual language programs were relocated to Bostonia. I agree that how the district handled the transition was not the best, but after sticking it out for a few years I can say that it was for the best. My younger child is far more fluent Than my older child who began at Jamacha, and I feel the difference is that she was truly immersed, not just a kid from “the Spanish class”. I can assure you that the teachers absolutely are teaching the kids, and immersing them not just having them learn from computers. Computers are used to supplement and support instruction, which is indicative of a 21st century classroom.I teach science and engineering, so one of the things I really liked about the program at Bostonia was the computer science focus. I honestly think it is better at the lower grade levels- I think as the kids get older it is harder for their core teachers who don’t always have a lot of computer science background to know enough to feel comfortable teaching programming languages. Nevertheless, the kids at the school get a positive first impression of engineering and aren’t afraid of programming like most people are. This is a huge benefit to their futures.

I am SO happy with Bostonia Language Academy! I have a student in Kindergarten and he is carrying on full conversations in Spanish and is learning computer coding, which will be a great tool to have once he gets into the work force. As with anything and everthing... nobody can make everyone happy. Thats why there are different schools, different strokes for different folks. I, however, am very pleased with this school, with this program, with my students Kindergarten teachers and with Principal Jacobo. I have been so impressed that Principal Jacobo has made the effort to know the students and their parents. When there was an issue with another student Principal Jacobo came to me personally when she saw me on campus. My sons principal last year at a different school made no such effort. Principal Jacobo is very involved in the school from directing traffic, to helping set up for school events, and checking in on classrooms. The parents and students are greeted by her each morning at the gate. Before registering my child we were required to attend and in-depth meeting with Principal Jacobo. She informed us of what to expect from the school, from the teachers and from our student. After that, we were able to decide whether this was a good fit for our son. Choosing this school was not a hurried decision. We had to take certain measures and go through certain steps to get him here. For us, the positive aspects outweighed the possibly negative ones. This is a new school and a new program so, as with any new business, there are bound to be growing pains. I, however, am in for the long haul because I am happy with every aspect of Bostonia Langauge Academy and my son is thriving, being challenged and has gained a sense of pride that he is able to speak another language.

I highly discourage sending your child here. We had to take our child out. There have been 5 teacher resignations in the last 6 months to date. More to come Im sure. The idea of learning Spanish might appeal to you but this place is not where it will happen. Everything about this school is low budget placing many costs on the parents. Do not expect your child to have access to Spanish books, you will need to purchase them yourself. Flyers never made it home with any notice, communication was the worst. In trying to talk with the Principal about some further concerns, I was told that it is her school and she will run it how she sees fit and my unsolicited opinion is not needed and if I was not happy with that I was free to place my child elsewhere. There are dozens of parents and families who removed their children this year. If this is not enough information, then enroll your child and experience the twilight zone yourself... and mr surfers comments are a clear example of the attitude this school has... dont be cry babies as if it came out of the principals mouth herself.

This school is repulsive. Since being forced to migrate to the Bostonia Language Academy, due to the district/superintendent thinking this was a good idea, even though all children at different schools in the East County had been adapting to their class mates and environment for the last 3 years. Never mind the Bostonia children and Teachers being displaced with NO notice. If this was not enough, they chose the absolute worst person to run, or should i say micromanage the school and teachers in every aspect. First, dont expect to EVER see graded homework. And you probably should take your child to have their vision checked after attending this school due to the enormous amount of time spent on the computers. Also, you may want to check your childs attendance record as that is more than likely being altered. Not sure how my children received perfect attendance when they clearly missed a week of school due to the flu. Do not expect to see smiles from anyone but the principal, who is probably smiling because she has successfully manipulated an entire district and remaining staff into believing she is so awesome. The whole program that originally began in 2012 was completely wiped out. Dont try to express a concern because you will have the whole school/staff talking behind your back. The motto there is, if you dont like it then door let the door hit you in the @$%$. Several teachers have resigned since the start of this in 2015 and several students have left the school Including my two children. One of which was successful in learning Spanish since K for 3 years. However this last year, there was nothing but regression and problem after problem, missing homework, constant complications and an extremely negative environment, so as a result we had to abandon Spanish and move to an English only school. Oh ya, and get ready for your child to start to adapt to middle school because the principal has implemented 3 teachers for each student. Dont bother trying to communicate to your teacher there could be a week wait, or no response at all. Its redunkulous. Id give this school zero stars if I could. The whole program has become East Countys set up to fail. Id steer clear from this mess, unless of course you dont care about your childs academics and future success.

Run for the hills! I no longer recommend this school to anyone. What used to be an amazing program is now a sad version of its former self. If you send your child here ( especially 2nd and 3rd grade) your child will be learning Spanish thru Rosetta Stone and if they have any questions they are instructed to use Google Translate. While we are a society that embraces technology this school takes it to another level. The kids are on the computers roughly 80% of the time and the computer programs are teaching the kids versus the teachers. On top of that no instruction is given on ergonomics and no attention is given on how to properly type. Give it a few years and these kids are going to suffer from back pain and carpal tunnel syndrome. When I place my kid in a school, I also take into consideration the environment . As you can tell from some of these other reviews, if you have an opinion that isnt theirs name calling begins. Lord forbid a parent has a different opinion and decides to share it. Another thing I want to point out from some of the reviews that say how awesome this program is, those reviews are coming from parents who have brand new children to the program and have no experience with a dual language program and have no idea as to how the program was designed and how far it has fallen from its original standing. On another note, admission. Supposedly, a child is not supposed to be accepted into the program after 1st grade unless the speak Spanish or come from another dual language program and are supposed to be tested to ensure they have a proper amount of the target language to enter into the program. This is not the case. Multiple children in second and third grade speak no Spanish or their Spanish is so limited they still struggle significantly in the classroom. Then the kids that do speak Spanish become personal tutors. And if the Spanish speaking kids didnt finish their work because they were helping the non Spanish speaking children then they have to either stay in at recess to finish their work or take it home as homework. Unacceptable. To make matters even more apparent, when a native Spanish speaking child begins to digress in his/her Spanish, theres a problem. That just goes to show the poor quality of standards that have been set at this school. This went from a program ( we were in it for almost 4 years!) that I recommended to everyone to a program that I urge parents to stay away from. I do hope that the program can be salvaged and brought back to its original standards but I highly doubt that.

Cajon Valley RUINED a perfectly successful dual-language program in its fourth year by 1. Kicking out Bostonia families in 2015 and moving program to Bostonia under one roof (in a sketchy neighborhood that makes you afraid to park in neighboring streets) 2. Claiming to add a third language (computer science, think after-school Lego Club, a waste of class time) which takes time away from learning the target language of Spanish 3. Putting someone with six months of principal experience to run it at all levels and someone who is difficult to work with who has that reputation throughout the district 4. Allowing new students into the program into year four and mixing them in with kids that had already been in the program three years. STAY AWAY from this place. The lower grades get all Spanish, but as the grades go it deviates from the dual language model and its a mess. You have new kids in the upper grades who dont know Spanish being allowed to use Google Translate to write reports in English and translate into Spanish (whats the point?). They also force kids to do Rosetta Stone as computer zombies instead of having an immersion environment where teachers and students talk to each other, which they cant have anyway because there are so many different ability levels in one grade. Places like EJE and Riverview do not let in any new kids unless they come from a dual-language environment. This place lets you in at any grade at the expense of those students already in the program that have to be used as student tutors to teach the others. Also, dont expect graded work back. Three teachers for one student and three whole assignments came home with a grade. Grade inflation with no work to back it up. What a waste of a good program that was really going well in years 1-3. The first three years were a success embedded in different schools, combining it under one roof was supposed to strengthen the school. Unfortunately it fell into the wrong hands of a weak leader.

I have two children that attend the Language Academy. And I am extremely happy with every aspect of the school. My children are in 1st and TK. Coming from an English only family, my first grader already carries on full conversations in Spanish. Everyone coming into this program knew that it is a work in progress. Things take time. Rome was not built in a day.We have an awesome staff, from teachers, to office staff, and an absolutely awesome principle (who I have never had a problem getting ahold of or getting a response back). We have a library full of new Spanish books. The largest group of parent volunteers that I have ever seen at a school.I spend a lot of time in the classrooms and it is not all computer work. teacher-student interaction is a huge part of the day. As far has having more then one teacher. I have never had a problem talking with both teachers. It allows our students to learn in many different ways. And sometimes one teacher will notice something that another does not. The more people helping my children to reach their full potential the better. It take a village to raise a child.I recieve tons of graded work every week. And I have full access to everything they do on the computer. Allowing me to keep tract of my childrens progress.Communication is the key to things succeeding, especially our children, and Bostonia language academy goes above and beyond. I recieve phone calls, emails, there is a bulletin board by the office. I recieve flyers and there are always posters letting parents know whats going on. There is also an electronic marquee in front of the school that always has information on it. There is also a Facebook and Twitter account that are constantly being updated with information.I plan on keeping my children at Bostonia Language Academy for the full program and have every intention of my youngest attending in a few years.

For my student at this school it is a very bad experience. My son is an English student or what they say English learner and I wanted to get tutoring for him. I wanted to get him more English while learning his academic Spanish. I asked the teacher about how she was going to graduate from the program for English learners if he is not getting help from more English. I also asked the principal and she could not get me tutoring in English although they had already said that with the title 1 funding, my son would get free tutoring. Nor do I agree that as children are learning Spanish. In Mexico vocabulary is learned and we learn conjugation to be able to write and speak. I cannot understand how children who are new to the program in second and are just learning Spanish, for the first year, are writing these elaborate essays without having Spanish education in kindergarten and first. Then I discovered that children write what they want to say in English and put everything on Google for translation. Thats crazy! There is also too much time on the computer. Poor children do not even talk to each other, since they are all connected to a machine. So for us as English Learners, we have not learned more English and the Spanish they are receiving is very low quality for conversation and for verbs and vocabulary. Also the school as it is in a little ugly neighborhood that even scares to park on the street. Next year I will send it to another school, better one of pure English.

Super happy and satisfied. The availability and professionalism of teachers is very good and it shows in the progress of students. Personally, I have two girls in that school and their progress has been very much so they love going to school and even thank me for having changed them to Bostonia Language Academy, because they like the way and the techniques that teachers use when teaching them. And I, as a family mother, am very happy with the program, the mechanism, the techniques and the processes that are followed because I clearly see the results in my daughters, in addition to that they always take all parents into account at the time of any meeting or activity that will take place at the school. And it goes without saying that Director Izela Jacobo is a very professional, correct, kind person and always has the availability to talk with us parents. It is clear that it is a school where all its members work as a team, and that is why they are giving such good results in students, that is why children like to go to that school, and that is why so many parents As a family we feel more than happy and fortunate to have our children in this school. Congratulations to Bostonia Language Academy congratulations to all its members and especially congratulations to Principal Izela Jacobo for putting so much effort and dedication to our great Bostonia Language Academy.
