I love the academic curriculum my son is being exposed to. People are always going to complain about one thing or another, but ultimately the focus on educating students is awesome! Im glad I moved my son to VDF. BLESSINGS FOR THE FUTURE YEARS HERE!

My son and I recently moved to the Eastside of town. We were referred to this school from some friends but unfortunately we were not happy with our experience. My son has always loved school, straight A student and always excited and motivated to go to school even during summer vacation. However when he started, all he had to say was negative. He started making up excuses as to why he didn’t want to go. His teacher was great but the rest of the staff, not so much. They were impatient, yelled all the time and when my son got sick they never called to tell me about it. Maybe that would’ve worked out better if they had a nurse! And as a parent I never felt well informed. They have a PTA but they don’t send anything out for parents to join, you have to be part of the “click.” Pathetic. Their academic system SOUNDS great but don’t forget to let them be little! They don’t get to enjoy recess to let off some steam during the day or get to socialize during lunch without constantly telling them to be quiet. And when I withdrew my son, the office or principal never even asked why. So sad. Not sure why they’re in the field they are in. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This was my daughters first year at this school and in just one week her 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Garcia pulled me into the office with the principal to let me know that she was going to have my daughter repeat the 2nd grade because she struggles with reading and writing. My daughter exceeds in math and science so I was very confused. Mrs. Garcia let me know that my daughter WILL NOT be passing the STAAR exam that all kids will be taking in April 2019 ( 8 months away). My daughter might have dyslexia which children tend to learn differently from other kids. I was upset of the idea of my daughter having to repeat a grade because of her slow reading. From what many school professional have told me retention only damages your child in the long run especially at a young age. I definitely do not recommend this school! As parent why would I want a teacher to teach my child when with only 1 week she had already given up on her. It seemed like they did not want to deal with a child that has a learning disability because it is extra work for the teacher and might risk having a student fail the STAAR exam. I was even asked if my daughter had any medical issues that the doctors had told me about? Even considering putting her in special education because that way she will receive and extra 90 minutes to complete the STAAR exam? This is not a school who focuses on childrens needs but focuses on getting high test scores so the school benefits. I absolutely dropped her from this school and she is now enrolled in a public school who provides teachers who are certified to help children with reading, writing, and dyslexia. The public school notified me that she will NOT be repeating the 2nd grade because she is a 3rd grade level student and that all students struggle in different areas and that does not mean they should be punished for it. I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL
