I have been training for a couple of year there and before I trained at another location. That school who I will not name was not a fun school to roll at. When I attended that school every morning after class the previous night I could not turn my head and my body felt like it had been in a train wreck. So I stopped. Fast forward two years. I start again a Briggs. No egos!! That was nice. No one training to be a star MMA fighter Or BJJ champion. This group of people are professionals. They have to get up every morning and go to work. They can’t be all F’ed up physically trying to perform their daily jobs. The atmosphere is light and everyone laughs even after being choked or submitted. Everyone is happy to show you what they did to set up that particular move so we all learn. Hope this helps.

An amazing experience. Took advantage of their free 1 day trial and had a blast! Having never rolled before, it was quite challenging, but I learned so much in the short hour, and the comradery between the staff and other members is amazing. Everyone is willing to help and patient with new comers. Cant wait to start my BJJ journey with them.

This is the best MMA gym Ive been to. This is the place to be in the area if you want fantastic striking and grappling training. The BJJ, striking, and MMA instruction is top notch. I feel like the price is very fair and I absolutely get my moneys worth. Furthermore, there are a large amount and variety of training partners to choose from. The mats are cleaned everyday and the equipment is clean and serviceable. In response to Victor Johnson..There are a couple black belts, a few brown belts, and plenty of the lower belts. Im assuming you didnt come in to the free trial because if you had you would have known that the instructors are quality. The free trial has no commitment and is there for you to experience the school before you make any decisions. There are no pressure tactics and the way they do business is standard. If you dont like the trial then all you would leave with is top notch training for free.

As a new brand new student the first thing noticed after attending a few classes was the willingness of of both the instructors and students to better each other. Recognizing my lack of experience, everyone I worked with during classes takes their time ensuring that I have complete comprehension of the movements. Everyone is welcoming and kind and I never feel like Im in over my head. The head instructor Jesse Briggs is very talented and is great at conveying his knowledge to the students. I commute from Horizon to the school, which is located on the far west side. That should tell you how content I am with my decision to train at Briggs Academy.

Ive been training at Briggs for about a year now and my conditioning has never been better. I never imagined to be learning the quality of kickboxing and Jiu-Jitsu Ive learned so far. The expertise and skill of all the instructors is beyond comparison...above all, the camaraderie of all the students is priceless. The friendships Ive built will last a lifetime.

Jessie Briggs is an incredibly technical instructor whose passion for all aspects of the combat arts put him far above most instructors Ive been lucky enough to train with. The biggest benefit of training with Jesse is his emphasis on the stand-up aspects of the fight game. Whereas his ground game is as good as Ive ever seen, its his Black Belt in Judo that truly sets this school apart. Do yourself a favor: GO TRAIN HERE! You will find your home!

My son (12) and I have been training at Briggs for almost 8 months now. We couldnt be happier with the instruction we have received. The kids class has been great for my son. He is learning a new art and building self-confidence which is great as he entered middle school this year! Coaches at both the adult and kids classes are careful to teach different techniques and encourage both of us to move forward in our learning. I cannot recommend Briggs Academy enough!

My wife and I signed our two young boys up at the end of July. They work very well with the students, and emphasize discipline and respect. My boys are rowdy and this has helped in school and discipline. They teach your kids and it is fun but it is lessons to protect themselves. I highly recommend it as it teaches everything about discipline and how to control your emotions, and protect yourself.Thank you,Jerry L. Hart

My daughter started jiu-jitsu here and I can honestly say that I would toot take my daughter anywhere else. Coach Briggs is phenomenal and is great with the kids in class. He incorporates basics, agility skills, and games so that the children can learn and have fun. He encourages kids to learn and congratulates them for doing things correctly. Coach is firm but not hard on the kids. Great place to learn and train.

You have googled long enough, this is the place to train. These guys are professional, friendly, and skilled. The facilities are clean, have large, good, thick matts, and boxing bags. They have a good mixture of classes and schedules. The other students are respectful, fit, and just good dudes. Ive trained MMA as a hobby for years in Germany, Korea, and Vegas. This is the best place in EP.

My friend told me that the staff refuses to reveal its prices regardless of what you do. I didnt believe him, and since he is a very nice and indirect person, I assumed maybe he just didnt ask well enough (as ridiculous as it sounds for such a simple request). Surprisingly enough, I went and distressingly emphasized my desire to know what this place costs (since every other places indicates this knowledge and it is common practice and sense to do it when youre selling not only a service, but anything at all). I was very direct and serious, though respectful. Nonetheless, the staff expressed terrible unconformity at me asking that question and pleaded for me to try the free classes before they could tell me the prices - it was almost a robotic response. I am a very busy person and I just dont have the time to play such games, especially when there are so many options that are willing to reveal something as hilariously simple as how much they are charging. For me, as I am a serious and direct person (as I stated before) this takes away all the legitimacy that this dojo could uphold. Furthermore, I highly doubt there are certificated mentors that teach in this place, otherwise there would be no such secrecy. While I totally respect the other reviewers, notice how they only describe this place as perfect for their kids. Thats because parents typically are busy and desperately look for places to babysit their children - just my observation on what kind of customers this dojo caters to.

While it does cater to white belts and beginners now, please join and be part of something great before Briggs MMA blows up. With coaches like Jason and Professor Jesse, this is going to be the Jacksons MMA of El Paso. Clean facilities, awesome technical instruction, instructors who are in shape and workout with you to push you to the limit. This is the place for fighters to progress, where other places here in El Paso have fighters stagnate. Kids who are 6 and up have a blast at the kids classes. Saftey is always paramount and you will be taken care of in this academy. Do yourself a favor before going to any other gym, swing by Briggs MMA, talk to the instructors and take the trial week. You wont want to fight anywhere else.

I found this place by accident. I was riding my bike on a Sunday afternoon and rode past. They were closed but I jotted down the phone number and called them the following day.First impression about any place where you work out is cleanliness. If a place isnt clean, you question the hygiene. My first impression with Briggs was how clean the place was. Mats are clean, free of rips and tears, same with the bags, gloves and other equipment. They obviously have pride in their presentation. They offered trial classes. Any reputable place will. Would you buy a car before test driving it? Doubtful. They offer a variety of classes from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to no gi grappling to muay thai based classes. Instruction is top notch. Classes are an hour long, you spend the first 10 minutes warming up, next 25 minutes doing a variety of technique work and the last 25 minutes live training. If its the last class of the day, you might very well get more than 25 minutes of live training in depending on who is willing to stay.Experience level of students is wife, you have the brand news guys, the somewhat brand new guys who have a year or two, the experienced guys with even more experience and then the purple and brown belts some of whom have 10+ years of experience. Instructors and fellow students have no issues showing you a technique that you havent learned yet if you ask nicely.Attitudes of organizations typically take on the attitude set by the leader. Thats no exception here with Professor Briggs. He is a humble, down to earth guy who still travels to seminars around the country to hone his martial arts skills. He does this to make himself better and to make his students better. You can tell he came back from a seminar when he goes off a paper script and starts with, this is what I learned last weekend at...The senior students do an awesome job of coaching and mentoring the younger students. There is no ego here in regards to people thinking theyre better than others because of experience level/belt rank. What youll quickly find is a very family atmosphere. Coach Steve is great with the kids class. He breaks the techniques down to a step by step level with great presentation for the kids.Youll likely end up making a lot of friends here. People dont go to workout places to make friends but you wont be able to help it. There are people here from all walks of life and the sense of family, of helping one another is something not typical of many workout places. There are very few business owners who are as approachable and open to communication as Professor Briggs is. That shows me that he cares about not just growing his business but he also cares about you as a human being.

The guys/girls who roll here are very informative and helpful with techniques. Coaches teach in a clear and consice way that is easy to understand. Judo with sensei Mendoza is legit and extremely useful for getting throws in both CSW and jits. The Savate-Thai class is really helpful for me to learn how to dodge punches and throw good counters using muscle memory (its also a good cardio workout!). Combat Submission Wrestling aka no gi is my favorite, but a little rough on my knees because I go too hard, but most people are fine. Good thing about this gym is you get out of it what you put in. If you want to be pushed, Jesse and the coaches will push you, if you just want to chill and have fun, they let you do that too and no matter which you chose, we all encourage each other. Its real and Im a huge fan :).
