I loved every minute of this camp. It taught me so many skills and let ride more then my previous barn had let me. Wish I could go back and relive these summers! I went for about 4 maybe 5 summers and still talk to my camp friends today!

Best camp ever! This was my second year and I will be going back for many years to come. The horses are treated so well. They are NOT in stalls. They live in a massive pasture where they have hay available at all time and they can graze. They also get fed grain. The staff is amazing. I have learned so much, not only about riding but about taking care of them. The other activities are so much fun. This camp has given me so many new and amazing experiences.

This is the best camp experience my daughter has had. Not only does this camp help with riding, it helps children learn to grow and to make lasting friendships. When I picked my daughter up after 3 weeks, she didnt want to leave because she didnt want to say goodbye to the counselors and her friends. She has made lasting friendships with people from all over. My only regret is that I didnt start her at a younger age. This camp has been the best thing for her in every way possible! Thank you to all at SJ Riding Camp!!

LOVE THIS CAMP! IT IS SO FUN:)I went for 3 summers for the same session each time and I absolutely loved it every time. All the girls are really nice and you cant to know the girls in your cabin, but also the girls in your riding group which gives you a good variety of new friends! All the horses are absolutely adorable and fun to ride! The riding instructors are all really nice and so are the councilors. I highly recommend this camp!!!

The best camp ever. The staff was almost perfect. Horses were great. I have been riding for 5 years and this camp taught me so much more than weekly lessons because of the 2 daily lesson, weather permitting. Overall I love this camp and will go for years to come.

Honestly the worst experience Ive ever had. The place is falling apart. The 40 something horses are kept in stalls where they cant turn around and there are at least ten lame horses at any given point. For the one week that I stayed there, I was put in a riding program that taught me nothing whatsoever. Our lessons basically consisted of trotting over cross rails and cantering in circles. I hoped to improve at riding and gain more experiences, but that was not possible. Most of the counselors dont even ride and/or have any experience with animals. Overall an awful experience and I would not recommend this to anyone. Also the food is absolutely nasty, literally starved myself for a week. Please save yourself thousands of dollars and never attend this falling apart excuse for a summer camp. I promise you will want your money back.

I love SJ Riding Camp so much! All of the campers are so nice as well as the counselors. Ive met some of my closest friends at SJ, and some of my favorite horses. All of the cabins are cute and rustic but you dont notice them. The girls in my riding group were all really nice. This year will be my 3rd year going to SJ and im sad I only have a couple years left to go.

My daughter has been going to SJ for the past five years and plans to continue going as a camper until she is eligible to attend as a counselor. This is a perfect camp for girls who love horses and riding. The supplementary activities are adequate, but the focus is clearly the riding. The facilities are rustic, which is the perfect counterbalance for a New York City adolescent.

It was OK. I was put in a very low group, as was my sister. I had been riding for 5 years and was put in a group w girls who had been riding for 1 year. Food was good, but other activities didnt have much substance. many girls were very mean and stuck up. made a few friends. Some counselors were mean or stuck up. Many were nice though, especially Amelia, Aspen and Petal! over all okay experience.

Top notch staff, camp, horses, and experience for my daughter. 3 years running, each year better than the one before. We love Alexandra Thomas, all of the staff, and of course the horses. The girls are kind to one another and grow as a team in a beautiful, natural, non-fussy environment. Thank you, SJ RIDING CAMP!

03/19/2014We sent our kids to overnight camp two years ago in VT and both did not enjoy the experience, despite it being very organic and back to basics, something I had hoped would resonate with them and make a positive impression. What I took away from it was that each child has different needs, and while our friends kids loved it, ours did not. Last winter, I told our daughter that she had to go to one camp, and that she could choose. I showed her the SJ video because it is a camp my cousin went to for many years and loved. I received sporadic letters during the two weeks she was there last summer and when I asked on pick up day if shed be returning, I dreaded her answer. She said immediately, oh yes!! In her words, she liked the people, the horses, and the food, all said with a smile. We live abroad and reconnecting with family and giving our kids a taste of the American summer camp experience was really important. Our daughter doesnt ride other than at camp, and I am thankful she found a place that made a positive impression and and thrilled she is returning.

SJ is a wonderful riding camp. The counselors are all helpful and knowledgeable, and are good instructors. The horses are amazing, and there is the perfect horse for everyone. They are also available to lease over the winter.

My daughter is just back from her 4th summer at SJ and had a wonderful time. Though shes not the most experienced rider (she doesnt ride during the winter), she learned so much during her 2 weeks. She has made many good friends at SJ over the years and has always loved her counselors. The camp is small and everyone knows each other and gets along well. Highly recommend SJ for girls who love horses!!!

In 2015 i was an international Counsellor for SJ Riding Camp, taking charge of Arts and Crafts and The Mini Farm. My overall experience was absolutely incredible! Pam, Julie, Alex and Terry took great care of all my needs and the American staff were so kind, pleasant and caring. Coming from the UK i was worried that i would not fit in, but i was made to feel at home right away! Its an incredible place were your kids become in touch with their surroundings and have fun being kids, away from busy and stressful lives which encompass us today. SJ strips everything back to basics, with its no phone policy, it breaks the technological barrier which prevents young women from embracing what the outdoors has to offer for them. I ate comfort food, spoke with people, enjoyed being apart of nature and everything else my surroundings had to offer. To enjoy SJ, you need to be 100% committed to its ideals! Take hold of the challenges it offers and dont shy away from the opportunities the camp provides. Otherwise, yes! You wont enjoy it, as with any other experience you undertake, open-mindedness is key with SJ, Id say try EVERYTHING, you will never regret it. As a counsellor I loved very minute! The kids i was able to meet were incredible and the other staff were also. There is routine, structure, education and then time to relax! If you want a real camp experience SJ is the place to be, I learnt a lot about myself and the girls who have been going to SJ for consecutive summers, year after year, are some of the most intelligent, well-rounded and grounded young women i have ever met. This camp is a family and I will forever be apart of it. Thank you for such an amazing Summer in 2015, Thank you to the kids, staff and the horses! Im sad i wont be returning, but i know SJ will carry on its 5 star attitude to Camp life.

This camp is amazing. I went there for 2 years!!! if any of the horses are lame it is because of a medical condition. The instructors are great! also the previous review is totally a lie!

SJ is a great camp, there is room for improvement in evaluations where a lot of the time the girls are placed in a too high or more likely too low of a group for their abilities, otherwise people are nice and the long break is fun, relaxing and I personally enjoy it there, I am returning for m 2nd year of camp today.
