Review №1

This is the most traditional Karate dojo in Fairbanks and possibly in the whole of Alaska. Hanshi Charles Scott has been teaching traditional Shudokan Karate for over 50 years and Alaska is privileged to have someone of his caliber and experience available in the interior to teach them and or their kids. Hanshi Charles Scott has been an educator, principle, coach and Sensei to many of us in Fairbanks over the years and has helped shape the future of Fairbanks by teaching basic precepts of honesty and fortitude to many of us who have lived here for years. He teaches not only Karate but Jujitsu, Kung Fu, Aikido and Iaido as well as having coached wrestling and football. If you or your children want to learn from one of the best Martial artists recognized across the country, you should sign up for a great experience. Osu!!

Professional, consistent, and welcoming training environment. If your goal is to build confidence, learn how to defend yourself, or improve your physical abilities this dojo will provide that to you and more. Hanshi Scott, Renshi Swarthout, Sensei Beau, and Sensei Annie have many years of experience and it translates into each session. This dojo is good for the whole family so if you have kiddos they have classes for them as well!

I have trained with Dr Scott since 2006. His incredibly diverse decades of training and experience provides the premier setting for martial arts. He is able to work with the youngest of participants, maintain a quality focused class, and provide skills far greater than kicks and punches. This is an old school, true martial arts dojo. Students will truly learn to defend themselves, not just go through the motions. Additionally, IKA provides training in Karate, Kung Fu, Aikido, Ju Jitsu, and Iaido, all in one place.Having trained in martial arts for over a decade and trained in dojos across the country and around the world, I love coming back to train with Hanshi Scott.

I have been taking Jiu Jitsu for a few months now and I love it. My native language is Spanish and the instructors work well with me ensuring that I understand the drills. My flexibility has improved and I feel great after class.

Observed a class today and saw the demonstrator doing the shrimp drill wrong during Jui-Jitsu, after the head instructor (Scott I think) stopped people to have them pay attention so that they would do it correctly. I am/was a level 3 Combatives instructor, began teaching in 2006, and overall I cannot say that what I saw constitutes as being good or effective training. There are not many places up here and the choices are limited, but Jui-Jitsu is not something I would take there.

Scott is a hard core old school instructor!
