So bad, people never get back to you and make you wait. My girlfriend tried to talk to international advising faculty and she waited over 2 hrs for nothing. The school is also pretty run down, many other community colleges in Dallas College are better. Don’t choose Brookhaven.

Love the trails to walk with the pup. It’s great cause the have the track path which is better on your joints. It’s also nice that the water fountains are dog friendly as well so you don’t have to haul a big water bottle/dish around! Some of the track needs some attention though.

Someone said it was a good place to learn and practice English, did my admission test and told them mainly wanted to practice and lose my accent when speaking. They put me in a class with people with heavier accents than mine that didnt know half of what Ive learned, also the teacher spoke to us like kindergarten kids and gave candies away when people replied correctly. After a couple of classes I was done with this fiasco.

For the most part various departments have been helpful. Some people are rude, dont understand they are working a customer service position (testing center), but not everyone is polite and helpful. I understand. Overall I am happy going to school here. I do take mostly online classes but have taken science classes on campus. They have a wonderful science tutor center. I would frequently visit it to practice for my lab A&P exams. The advisors are a hit or miss. The most helpful to me has been a Native American older gentleman. Patient and kind. Point is, theres good and bad but for the most part Ive had good experiences. I had a kind but very confused and disorganized lab professor. The dean got involved and actually allowed out class to get an extra day to study for a practical. The class was a disaster, but the dean tried. This was at the end of an 8 week A&P class.

Brookhaven campus is nice. The professors are pretty good. My only issue with Brookhaven is that theyre financial aid process sucks! If you are applying for financial aid I would recommend you get a job so you can pay for your books and classes. Brookhaven does not make the financial aid helpful at all.I still havent received my financial aid and the semester is off in two weeks. I really wish Brookhaven will change their policy and make it easier for students to receive money so they can pay for their supplies, books and classes. Its really irritating!

Admissions and advisors are anything but helpful. They will string you along for months. I submitted all of my paperwork in early November (it’s now January) and they say they still have not gotten to it because “it’s a process,” meanwhile the one class I want to enroll in is filling up.

I am a 35 year old student with experience at other colleges and universities. I have already earned a four-year degree, a two-years degree, and a one-year certificate. Currently, I am taking some prerequisites classes at Brookhaven College to continue my professional career. Without doubt, I can tell you that Brookhaven College is one of the best college that I have attended before. As any other institution, there are some staff employees and professors who harm the college reputation, but they represent an insignificant minority. Since the beginning, you can feel a sense of belonging with the college, there is everything you need: Counseling Center, Career Center, Advising Center, Student Clubs and Organizations, Disability Support, Exercise facilities, Health Center, Multicultural Center, a complete Library, Computer Center, Tutoring Center, among others good facilities. The quality education is at the same level with any other university. They have a greater range of classes that you can take in campus or online. Unfortunately, many people with bag experiences are writing in this blog, and individuals like me that are going to this college and believe in it, are no taking action against those negative comments. But you can take advantage of a good educational institution if you want, is your choice!

Way better than any of the local 4 year colleges I have worked with in the area. The students are friendly with rare exception. The professors actually reward you for showing up and doing the course work and learning the material. The career services office referred me to a temp agency when I needed a job and their staff was really helpful. The financial aid office needs a bigger staff, theres only one person on campus at the window for their office and she doesnt speak great English but thats about the only bad thing I can say. The alumni relations office is courteous and helpful and actually invites me to events! This is by far the best college I have ever interacted with.

Worst DCCCD Campus. They do not cater to students, sure they offer classes but more than anything they offer employment for teachers and the worst administrative staff youll ever encounter (especially that black lady early 60s in the A building). Neither schedules nor amenities accommodate students. If you plan to attend class on weekends you will not have any lounges microwaves, vending machines, or any other school service available. Oh my gosh. I was so disappointed from this College. Most of staffs and instructors are really nice and they got a plenty of information and they knew how to teach students. But some staffs in the multicultural center didnt even know how to take care students. Based on my experience, when I was planning to go back to my country, they asked me to bring airplane tickets and letter. So I brought all of them what they need. But a week later, they called me back it was because they lost my copy of airplane tickets and letter. So they wanted me to bring it again even though I was not in Texas. And they said if I am not supposed to bring it or mail it, they will terminate my I-20 immediately. So I stopped eating and then got out of a restaurant although I was with my friends, I needed to find a place that I can use WiFi. Eventually I mailed all of the copies again. It wasnt even my fault, they asked me to bring in again within an hour.

Advisors are supposed to help International students as much as they can, but some of them are there to increase the problems. They do not understand the problems of International students, just put their opinion and its over for them. Try to help students as much as you can so that you do not have to do student counseling time and again. You make students in frustrations and send them to counseling. It is really disgusting. Besides this problem, Brookhaven College is one of the best colleges in US. I love Brookhaven College.

The financial aid department is clueless. Ive filled out the correct paperwork for financial and waiting for the award monies to be deposited, find out that the paperwork wasnt uploaded. Now I have to start the process again and the original loans that were offered are no longer there. Not sure once the new paperwork is submitted what the turn around time will be and neither does the school. Call FAFSA and they tell me that everything I submitted was correct its on the school. Call the financial aid department back and come to find out its a third party answering hotline which cant speak English or know whats going on as well.Ive already graduated from a college so I am well aware how financial aid works and the BS this department is pulling isnt it.

I took a couple of classes online and while the faculty were decent, the school administration was absolutely the most incompetent group of people I have ever had to deal with. They were supposed to send my transcripts over to my institution so I could graduate but they didnt and caused a huge mess on our end with graduation. If youre wanting to take classes online DO NOT GO HERE! If I could give them zero stars I would.

I was enrolled in this school only because it was required to transfer credits from a study abroad program into an American institution. First off I think its kind of a scam that I had to pay out of state tuition to Texas since they seem to have a monopoly on partnerships with foreign schools. The staff is friendly enough though and helpful. However God help you if you need to fill out a transcript request form. The only way they accept it (at least in 2014) was to fax it. I had no access to a fax machine and the woman I spoke to seemed bewildered by this and I had to call numerous people to get them to accept a scanned copy via email. Seriously who still uses a fax machine?

This college does not deserve the negative ratings it has been given. I am a transfer student from The University of Texas at El Paso. If you think it is difficult to apply for schooling at a community college, there is a problem. Financial aid, and classes were easily obtainable, but keep in mind, it is your job to keep up with your issue. They are there to help you but they cannot do everything for you. Turn in everything early and if not, on time. You should be fine with admission. Best of luck with this upcoming semester.

Quite possibly one of the worst network of schools in the country. The payment system takes advantage of low income families, and you have to nag the financial aid office every single day for weeks in order to get anything to happen. Also dont even get me started on their unprofessional and degrading teachers who try to make you fail instead of help you succeed. I missed a SINGLE day of class and the teacher tried to make me get kicked out of the program because of it.

The admissions department as well as transcript sending and receiving end situation is probably one of the worst things I have seen from a professional standpoint. Thoa Vo as well as Chris Perez should not only be fired for their work in the admissions office, but they should also never be allowed to work in an educational institution again. If there was a way to rate them at a basis of no stars, then apply it here. One student working on the phone system to answer all questions (which they have given out the wrong information twice btw) is absolutely ridiculous. Institution is in the business of collecting money and not caring at all what happens after that. I think an investigation is seriously something that needs to be considered here.

We waited another 2 hours just to show them the admission application. Then they told us to come back tmrw for the placement test. We waited 3 hours just to go over the test scores and make the schedule. They told us we needed to come back again tmrw because based on her score, her level for the writting course couldnt be determined. Are you serious? She got a score of zero. It doesnt take a genius to figure out that shes in level 1. As expected, she got placed in level 1. We waited another 3.5 hours just to hear that. We had to come here 4 days in a row. A week later, they email us saying that there is a problem with the schedule and that we need to come in to fix it. We go in to fix it, but the advisor tells us that theres nothing wrong with the schedule. The staff and advisors in the multicultural center are so slow and unhelpful. Waisted 12 hours of my life. Upon his dismissve words, I headed straight over to Richland College and was met with a TOTALLY DIFFERENT response! Not only was the faculty over there more accomodating, they helped me understand the process to register, and now I am accepted to Richland! Richland understands that your decision to further your education is a very important one, and they will advise you of ALL your options to achieve your goal. Thumbs up for Richland, and thumbs down for Brookhaven. Dont listen to these people with their dismissive words and attitudes to go with those. Dont take no for an answer, get a second opinion. Additionally, of you compare, you will find that the Brookhaven website does not offer extensive information about courses offered, or maybe they are just limited in the disciplimes that are taught there.
