The NAU Academy is a great place to go for either music or dance instruction. In terms of dance, this is the only place in Flagstaff to my knowledge that offers the Royal Academy of Dance program that allows students to progress through a strong ballet curriculum, and the teachers are all wonderful and clearly love what they do. For music instruction, there are tons of options for students of all instruments and levels, and the affiliation with the NAU School of Music ensures that students are learning from well-trained teachers.

This is the best, highest quality kids music and dance instruction that you will find in Flagstaff. The Academy follows the rigorous Royal Academy of Dance curriculum; the music program here upholds equally high standards. Dedicated, caring and talented dance and music instructors and a warm Flagstaff community of families. Highly recommend!

When I was in High School, I took lessons from the Academy, and was a part of the orchestra. It was honestly the best decision I could have made at that time. I learned so much useful and valuable information that I have been able to apply to my playing long term, and not to mention all the great memories and lasting friendships.

Long before we had a child who was interested in becoming a ballerina, we attended NAU Music and Dance Academy and Flagstaff Symphony Orchestras free production of the Nutcracker called the Lollipop Concert every Christmas Season. The dancers from the NAU Music and Dance Academy, who are trained in the Royal Academy of Dance curriculum, lit the imagination of our youngest with visions of the Sugarplum Fairy, beautiful costumes and graceful pointe shoes so much, that she is now in her ninth year of ballet with the Academy and was fitted for her first pair of pointe shoes in January. There is no amount of praise that would be enough for Andrew Needhammer and Heather Cureton and the other fine dance instructors at the Academy. They are knowledgeable, kind, inspiring, determined and creative; motivated by the noblest desires of continuing the high art and culture of classical ballet as well as other dance forms. Everyone is welcome and given the best these instructors have to give! I have had the joyful opportunity to be heavily invested in the whole ballet culture through this adventure as the Academy actively allows parent involvement and volunteering! It has been my privilege! The families who participate and the caliber of the diverse students who are drawn to this art form are a blessing to associate with. The personal benefits and refinements that have come to our daughter through her years of training, hard work and accomplishment because of the amazing teachers and the care that is maintained for each student at the Academy has been very far above par. I cannot recommend the NAU Music and Dance Academy highly enough. I know if you have a child who is desiring a chance to dance in ballet as well as jazz and other dance forms, you just cannot do better than sending them to the NAU Music and Dance Academy! I also know many families who have their children receiving musical instruction for many various instruments through the Academy as well, and though I cannot speak to that personally, I have never heard a bad word about the quality of musical teaching, the opposite is true, and feel that just by association with the quality consistently demonstrated by the dance part, I can recommend the music part with full heart as well! I love everything I have been a part of for these last 9 years and am very excited to get to share several more! Bravo NAU Music and Dance Academy!
