Truly a great place. My son absolutely loves coming to practice. Family owned staff always willing to stop to teach technique, proper form and muscle memory. In order to reach your goals you have to be willing to enjoy the process and that’s what I’ve seen from this place.

So I have been training at Claycomb Academy of Martial Arts for a year now and not a day goes by that I’m not grateful for being apart of this dojo! I like that the classes are small enough that you get lots of attention from the Sensei’s and Shihan, the dojo itself is clean, and the fact that we work with pads and gloves on non Gi days (T+Th) makes it an awesome workout while training! There are traditional days (M+W) as well in which we wear our Gi’s and rep our belts when the class focuses more on fundamentals and kata which are great for really fine tuning your techniques! The people at the dojo are also AWESOME! Very supportive and likeminded. I would def recommend this dojo/academy to anyone (young or old!) looking to make serious life changes, to come try the free week trial! I brought my bestie and she is now HOOKED!

I’ve recently joined this place and I have loved it ever since. The atmosphere is amazing here, Claycomb truly cares about each and every one of his students and really gets them focused on their training. I have felt stronger and more focused on my techniques every time I leave a session, and have felt I am really learning. The people here are all carefully chosen and each of them are some of the coolest and most supportive people I’ve met. New people won’t feel left out, we will all welcome you to the family. If your interested in studying karate, I highly recommend this place and I’m excited to continue my training here. -CobraCaiden

As a parent, you want to make sure your kids are always in the right environment and surrounded by positive people no matter how old they are. We toured several studios and dojos, listening to their sales pitch, and left feeling like they were only interested in another tuition coming through their door. Decided to give this place a try after driving by and I’m so glad we did! We instantly felt welcomed by Shihan Claycomb and that we had finally found the right place. My son absolutely loves going here and is developing a new passion and dedication while learning traditional principals and new techniques in every lesson. Thank-you for all you guys do!!

The hours are great for the adult class. I really love that we can come 30 minutes before class starts to warm up and practice our moves on our own or with the assistance of those in my class. The self defense techniques are what got me hooked! And seeing how much of a work out I received was rewarding and also addicting. I especially love the environment, energy and people within the Claycomb dojo family!!

We have been coming to Claycomb Academy for three months, and we absolutely love it. My 6 year old is shy and they are really helping her come out of her shell. She is excited to go, and will always give 100%. The instructors are motivating and encouraging. They do not only teach self defense, but they also take time to teach manners and respect to elders. Looked further than my town due to covid and all the karate training being closed in San Bernardino this is in Fontana. First placed I looked into signing up my two boys to train for karate and needed to look no further. I’ll begin with sanitizing they are staying on top of it hand sanitizer installed all through out the facility, temperature checking every time before class begins, and plenty of soap in the restroom they also clean the facility top to bottom. Secondly the costumer service is professional, they treat you like family, all the questions I asked they answered, and both of my boys love their instructor as well as the class. Thirdly class and pricing the class my boys take is beginners but they have learned so much discipline the price is reasonable.

The childrens classes have a good variety of skills for my kids to learn. So far my kids have learned traditional karate, practical or reality-based karate, self defense, and bag/mitt strikes. Their emotional confidence has increased as well as their physical coordination. These classes keep them off their video games for an hour (at least!) and they are learning something useful.

Claycomb Academy of Martial Arts is an excellent dojo operated by Joseph Claycomb, and his daughter Xena and son Michael. About a year ago, I enrolled my grandson Jayden, who was 6 years old at the time. They provide different levels of training depending on the age group. The instructors teaching the children are Xena and Michael, who literally grew up in this environment. They display remarkable patience with the children while teaching them karate techniques. The instructors also focus on developing the childrens social skills such as listening, focusing, adhering to the rules, showing respect and manners, and building confidence. All while encouraging the children to be great leaders and role models in the community. If your child is lacking in any of the aforementioned characteristics, I encourage you to visit Claycomb Academy of Martial Arts.

He loves everyone at Claycolmb and I love that they teach him Karate but also focus on respect, responsibility, gratitude, healthy lifestyle, determination to mention a few. Hard to find a place like it. My son and I spent some years here before we moved out of the area. The instruction is excellent, well rounded and forward thinking. With practical, application based techniques and excersizes as a focal point, one can gain a solid understanding of ones own ability and the effectiveness of the techniques. The instruction is based as much in functional technique ideas as is possible, rather than strict adherence to form only. Though everything tought is founded on well tried and true form ideas, application is the key element. The instructors are always advancing their own education with other professional fighters, as well as providing opportunities for students to attend instructive and excellent seminars. The facility is amazing, well thought out and maintained very nicely, with all the equipment needed for a great training experience. I had the opportunity over the years to help do some maintenance and construction in the facility, and sort of leave my mark on the dojo, it was an honor and wonderful experience. I would have been glad to train here as long as I would have been able to do so.

I believe that a good martial Arts teacher and practitioner should have an understanding of cultivation of a strong mind to develop confidence. This was a factor in every aspect of my life. Sensei claycomb is one of those special individuals whos understanding for strong mind and spirit cultivation is in full effect and can match up to the effectiveness of the self defense techniques he teaches, a lot of todays so dojos and the called teachers of the arts have forgotten the importance of developing confidence and discipline in a student and focus primarily on techniques. I dont care how good their technique is, the student will never apply the techniques being tought if hes confidence is low. I compete in mma and even though I incorporated muay thai, boxing, and jiu jitsu to my technique my karate base is why I am a technical well disciplined competitor. Osss

Shihan Joseph consistently goes above and beyond in his approach to teaching his students, and running his Dojo. He is extremely passionate about his Family, and all of his students in his Dojo. He continues to strive for excellence in offering his students the best in martial arts training. He is a technician in the development and evolution of what is taught in the Dojo. His ability to think outside the box is a contributing factor to the success of his School, as well as an asset to all of his students. If you are in the area, stop in and view his facility. It is clearly among the finest.

After looking around, I pleasantly found this dojo to be the best decision I have made. I have had previous experience in other schools, but this was exactly what I was looking for. This dojo teaches the principles each karate student needs to learn, yet also they provide self-defense for real life, which is unlike the majority of most traditional dojos. The instructors are very experienced and highly skilled and continue to enhance their own abilities enabling them to offer fresh content and modern teaching methods for the benefit of their students. The equipment is top of the line, and no matter how tough the training is, we always feel safe. They also have family discounts, and action-packed kids classes. Overall, this facility deserves my two thumbs up.

They even teach break falls like they do in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP).Sensei Claycomb even has strong ties with UFC Fighter Lyoto Machida and Chinzo Machida his brother. They do an annual day long seminar together, its awesome learning with Pro Fighters, and Pro Senseis.

My husband and son have thoroughly enjoyed their experience here. The kids class is run very well, and the instructors are attentive and patient while teaching solid values and skills. The adults class is also very well run, with solid and serious workouts involving excellent application of techniques. All the instructors have a wealth of experience and knowledge in both traditional style and excellent self defense applications. This Dojo offers a lot, and is well worth the investment if you are serious about learning real skills from real instructors. The whole Dojo has presented an attitude of warmth and welcome from our first day, making us feel very much at home and comfortable, while of course teaching proper Dojo etiquette and respect, which translates into a positive environment that makes learning and practicing flow very well.

Ive been training here at the Academy of Martial Arts for over a year now. Not only have I lost weight since I started (about 20lbs), but I have become a lot stronger than when I started and have a lot of endurance today. The time spent in each class gives me a tremendous workout while learning self defense techniques that are based on traditional Shotokan, but with a more modern approach to real life practical application and defense. And the adults that I train with twice a week are such good people. The class is built on respect for each other. You will feel that immediately, and see how easy it is to make friends here. We are a family of friends that continuously work together to encourage all of us to get stronger and get better at Karate as we train. If you stay in the program with us, you will be glad and perhaps surprised with your achievements here. The Dojo is very clean, colorful, and attractive. It is well stocked with equipment such as heavy bags, pads, and gear. There is an assortment of weapons that students may choose to be trained in, and the entire workout area is covered with a padded flooring. It is very inviting and you immediately feel that you are in a dojo.I have found all the students from the youngest to oldest to be very respectful, curious, and friendly. And the Instructors Shihan Claycomb and Sensei Tom to be wonderful instructors with their vast knowledge of Shotokan Karate, Judo, Kick Boxing, Wrestling, Grappling, and Sparring.Whether you are someone wanting a place to train for competitions, or whether you are someone like me who wants to continue to lose weight, get stronger and be more confident and in charge of my health and life, I couldnt recommend this facility enough.

This dojo is amazing. My father and I visited many dojos before and this one has to be the best. Young or old you will be welcomed and treated like family the second you step in. Everyone is treated like family. The style is shotokan (from okinawa) but the style is adjusted so that one can use karate in the real world. One learns easily with focus and determination. Women i highly recommend you go here because it is a great skill to learn and here we learn many ways to defend ourselves. Karate helps children as well. My brother hated going to karate at another dojo we went to, so he quit. When i introduced him to this one he developed a passion for it. He is more humble now and is excited to go to practice. Soon he will be testing for his orange belt. Karate transforms you physically and mentally. So if you are looking for a dojo, i hope to see you here. :)

There is seriously no valid reason for people looking for a comprehensive fitness program to not try Duarte Karate. For me its super convenient as its in Duarte. But as far a the program itself there isnt any other location in the REGION that is as complete and thorough as this one. I wanted a traditional school and found it. However traditional doesnt mean old and boring it refers to structure. Why do I think this works vs the new trendy stuff? Because there are roots and a system. MMA is hot right now and the training programs that go with it really do work but if youre putting time into it you may as well earn and work to achieve something of value as well. And finally if you just really dont want to invest your time for whatever reason in a Karate program you can choose from the complete courses and classes available! Including the MMA/Strength Training which will get you sweating AND build functional muscle, Yoga, Cardio-Kickboxing and Zumba. Shihan Claycomb and his facility along with the instructors are approachable which made all the difference in starting here and they really ALL know their stuff!

I love this dojo and the people in it very much. Academy of Karate is a great place to learn traditional Shotokan karate. Shihan Claycomb is great about letting students with prior Shotokan experience keep their rank until her has evaluated their level of expertise. This is also a great place to train for people of all ages. There is a little dragons class for 3-6 year olds as well as a family class for children and their parents and a adult class for students ages 13 and up.As a college student I also appreciate Shihan Claycombs rates they are very affordable. As a black belt I can say with confidence there is no better place to train!
