Great club, great coaches and amazing results. I’ve been very impressed by the dedicated coaches and director who take so much of care on the development of kids who go there. While the perception is that only outgoing, extroverted students excel in debate, BCDC helps integrate and foster a diverse community of students from all different backgrounds to understand commitment and dedication. Full of passionate students and coaches that truly go above and beyond to help you improve, the club serves as a second home to many debaters and speech students. The club provides an incredibly unique environment for students to refine their idea of success, and constantly improve and push themselves to new limits. Max, Ben, and Oksana are some of the most brilliant and driven people I have met, and have taught me not only about debate, but critical life skills.

I signed up for BCDC a little over a year ago with minimal public speaking skills. Because of their amazing coach and staff, I now have developed skills in many different areas, such as confidence, public speaking, and critical thinking.There are many reasons why BCDC is such a successful debate academy. I would say the first reason is amazing coordination, as a debate team it is extremely important to be coordinated. Second, is the prep, thanks to the amazing coaches and staff, we as debaters get amazing results at tournaments.

After my first tournament in Korea, 2019, I wanted an opportunity to continue when I came to the US later that year. Bergen County Debate Club and its fantastic coaches improved my public speaking and reasoning with personal attention to each and every student. Looking back at when I first joined, I couldve never expected to come this far in my debating skills. BCDC coached some of the most successful teams on the circuit, and if youre looking to improve in argumentation and speaking in any way, this club is the way to go. There is absolutely nothing bad I can say about BCDC.

Bcdc is so coolFor real though, their coaches and the people surrounding you are really cool. Everyones willing to help you and especially the coaches. They will prep you in public speaking, debate, and logic, all in just a few weeks for you to go out there and be able to participate in tournaments. Their help extends there too. I really appreciate what they did to give me an opportunity.

My daughter started at BCDC just an year ago. It is quite amazing how much the difference the coaches have been able to make in just 6 months. She has become a more confident speaker and has more confidence in her own ability to research and think through an issue. Sometimes the experience can become quite intense and the child has to juggle the commitment with school and other extra-currics. I look forward to my second child starting here in a couple of years.

Bergen County Debate Club has been instrumental in helping me come out of my shell and given me the confidence to voice my opinions. Its turned debate into my favorite hobby, and as well as improving my public speaking skills, which have helped me in school presentations and talking formally as well as debate, Ive also learned a lot about the world, doing a plethora of topics across all elements of domestic and foreign politics. Ive gotten to semifinals at the UPenn tournament, elimination rounds in a lot of others, and made a great network of friends around the country at tournaments. Id highly recommend BCDC to anyone who wants to improve any of those skills.

Bergen County Debate Club is a highly successful debate club with an impeccable record, and the travel team has done fantastically in tournaments such as Harvard, Stanford, and Westchester.The coaches are highly qualified and incredibly supportive with Coach Max, Coach Ben, and all the other coaches doing their best to help every student achieve success. Feedback is personalized, the material is hands-on, and students are always free to ask questions.Since I joined BCDC, one of the biggest changes that I’ve noticed in myself is that now I analyze both sides of an argument before forming an opinion. Debate has also significantly improved my note-taking and research skills, as well as allowed me to find flaws in arguments. It has taught me to ask thought-provoking questions.The opportunities that this club has given me are immense and have transformed me and many others attending this club. Whether you want to learn debate or are just looking for something to boost your thinking skills, then BCDC is for you!

After spending countless hours debating under BCDC for the better part of 5 years now, I can confidently say that joining BCDC all those years ago was one of the single best and most important decisions of my life.My years at BCDC have changed my life in more ways than I can count. Of course, going to BCDC to learn from some of the best debate coaches in the country has opened up a world of possibilities for me. Over the years, I’ve won several major state and national debate awards, and I definitely could not have done it without their help and guidance. However, outside of debate, I cannot describe how much BCDC has improved not only my public speaking skills, but also my research, writing, and critical thinking skills. By shaping me into the person I am today, BCDC has allowed me to discover my true passion for public speaking and teamwork and has helped me realize what I want to do as a career.Even more than that, BCDC is unique in the culture it creates. Not often can debate organizations create such a productive and powerful sense of teamwork and community. I’ve made countless friends throughout my time at BCDC and have made debate connections all around the US through these relationships. I’ve also become extremely close with the coaches and the staff who have offered me countless opportunities outside of debate.Overall, while my time at BCDC has been instrumental to my personal and academic success, it was also extremely enjoyable and meaningful to me. There’s no program I would recommend more than BCDC.

My daughter has been with BCDC for a couple of years now and I have to say this is one of the best debate programs in Bergen County. Its a wonderful program with great teachers and coaches that teaches kids not only how to debate but provides life learned lessons all throughout. My daughter got rid off her fear of public speaking, learned how to debate and provide strong arguments on any subject, it definitely helped her with the critical thinking skills and the list goes on and on. Afer only one year in this club, she gave us a great power point presentation on why she should get a dog and won that debate. We got the dog. :-)Kudos to Oksana and the coaches on building such a geaat club and continuing to do so!

Our son has been a member of BCDC for three years since the beginning of the 6th grade. He loves it tremendously. Oxana and coaches are great. In this time weve seen enormous improvement in his public speaking skills and his confidence. He is a mathy kid, when he started Debates neither he nor us could imagine that he would love it so much! Debates club is a unique place where middle schoolers can work on research and advocacy skills. Cant wait for our younger kids to join the Debates!

My daughter is in BCDC debate team for roughly a year and already there are massive changes in the way she thinks, analyzes and talks. She frequently checks to see how her ideas in regular life could be better supported or how to respond to opposing claims. She has grown in public speaking, improving in clarity, emphasis, and overall expression and tone. BCDC has taught her how to give a 4 minute speech on a topic where she has little evidence or topic prep, helping her think of ideas on the spot. Through BCDC’s personal teaching she has had success in both tournaments and has been a better thinker.

BCDC is simply amazing. The coaches there are all supportive and spend lots of time working to help the students. At BCDC, there are opportunities for everyone, and this is clearly reflected by the results of the numerous tournaments BCDC competes in. At this club, I have improved as a debater and a person. In fact, there is large scale improvement at BCDC that I have had the chance to witness throughout my years too. Since last year when I first joined the travel team, I can see how much BCDC really improved, and I see changes in every person. This year has been the best year of BCDC I have been involved in, and there is lots of potential for the new debaters and the future of the club in both the short and long term. Thank you coaches!

As someone who has been a student at BCDC for almost two years, I cannot stress enough the immense impact debate has had on my life. Through BCDC classes and the travel team, I have met some of my closest friends and developed essential skills for higher education and beyond. BCDCs exceptional coaching staff and the director, Oksana, have pushed me to competitive heights I never would have imagined. The coaches constantly go above and beyond to help all students reach their full potential, and I would not be the debater I am today without them. Being a part of BCDC has been an incredibly enjoyable and rewarding experience and I am positive it will be just as amazing for any student looking to learn and excel in debate.

BCDC is a valuable resource for parents of any school-age child, even if the child is not interested in competitive debate.This is a high level school with impressive competitive rankings. All coaches are knowledgeable with experience and follow a structured program. The program is constantly evolving, giving students and coaches new resources which helps them to stay current in a competitive environment. It is amazing to see the school grow under the leadership of Mrs. Savransky.However, competitive debate is only one aspect of what they do. While attending classes in high school, my son became an incredible and persuasive speaker, and I believe that this is the skill any person needs for the rest of their lives!His public speaking skills improved dramatically; after taking classes for a couple of years, he would ace all of his school presentations with ease.As a part of his high school senior project, he pitched a program to McLaren Automotive. (which would require them to donate hours of their manager’s time) and to our big surprise he won that pitch and ended up working with them on his project!But the most impressive aspect was how they prepared him for a competitive college interview! Every small detail was thought through and rehearsed to the point that it no longer felt rehearsed.His interview went great! First of all, it lasted for about an hour and 15 minutes, and after it was over the interviewer called us (the parents) into the room and told us that it was a great interview.The interview preparation was intense but it was worth doing it as this skill will help him in his life when interviewing for any job or proposals.Many thanks to BCDC!Alexandra Robinson

BCDC is easily one of the best debate schools out there. The coaches are amazing, and BCDC never fails to amaze. Students are taught so well, and the results at tournaments are like no others. If you are in the area and you are looking to get into debate, no other school wont come close to the results you can get here. BCDC preforms extremely well in the national circuits, taking home some sort of victory almost every time. The school is also very fun, and great for middle schoolers especially, and definitely you want to go here.

Ive only been debating at Bergen County Debate Club for two years, but I have seen a massive difference in my confidence, critical thinking, public speaking, and argumentation. When I started BCDC, I was an awkward child who stuttered a lot. After years of sticking with BCDC, I feel more confident and energetic; during rounds and out, I can speak smoothly and calmly. Thanks to BCDC, my argumentation also improved a ton; during my first tournament, I never even thought about topping; however, as I type this review, Im going into semi finals at a tournament. Thank you to BCDC, and all the coaches who work there.

As someone whos been attending bcdc for 3 years, I can easily recommend the club. Our travel team has been doing so well this year, winning multiple tournaments, and getting to late outrounds in others. This can all be attributed to our fantastic coaches who always put in way more effort than any others. Ive had the chance to meet so many amazing debaters and people, many of which Im now very close with. Bcdc is like a second family to me that always helps me achieve my best. When I first started, I like many others was forced into debate by my parents. As the years progressed I started getting more and more attached because of how much fun I was having at bcdc. Overall theres no other option if you value fantastic coaching, great success, and unbeatable prices. You cant go wrong with BCDC.

As a shy kid, I dreaded talking to people I was unfamiliar with and couldnt speak in front of a crowd confidently. BCDC completely changed this and introduced me into a whole new world of public speaking and debate. From talking on a stage of hundreds of people to having a long conversation with someone, BCDC showed me many tricks and techniques that can be applied to school and other activities. I have seen a tremendous improvement in my critical thinking, writing, researching, and argumentative skills. Along with these skills, I learned Parliamentary and Public Forum. These 2 types of debate taught me to research things that I didnt even know were real. BCDC also encourages for kids to participate nationally in debate competitions. The coaches are so supportive and dedicate their time to help each kid do their best at every tournament. Kids have won a countless number of awards making BCDC one of the top debate programs. Enrolling in BCDC is one of the best decisions I have ever made and I have met some of my closest friends.

As a parent, I have seen my son’s gradual progression as not only a public speaker and debater, but a person of proper character because of BCDC. It has taught him open-mindedness in both an educational and social setting and he has learned to expand on characteristics he initially didn’t care much about.In his own words, “I was reluctantly forced into the activity of debate as a 6th grader and saw it as another one of my time consuming extracurricular activities. As time went on, I only grew more boredom and did not see myself dedicating much time to debate in the future. My view on debate from here all changed when I encountered a new format of debate, Public Forum, who the coaches Ben, Max, Nick, and Won Joon have helped adapt to and progressively enjoy for the past year. The administrative staff, both the director Oksana and Vlad make great strategic choices to decide a debater’s future in the activity and will surely lead your child on the right path to success. My expanding interest led to me joining the BCDC Travel Team, which allows its students to now showcase their skills on the national stage, providing a voice to be heard for its students. I now dedicate both my effort and enjoyment to the activity of debate and most definitely would recommend it to any aspiring student at a young age.”Overall, with all debate academies in consideration, BCDC provides an environment for every one of its students to thrive in, and has been the best decision I have made for my child.

My daughter, Giana Gont, has been a part of BCDC since 6th grade. BCDC had been tremendous asset to her education and intellectual development. BCDCs incredible coaches taught Giana to do research, analyze data and draw logical conclusions. Debate Club encourages kids to compete at national level and provides high level preparation. This year , with the help of the dedicated coaches, Giana participated in 2 national tournaments and made it octo and quater finals. Although pandemic made it difficult to engage kids to study online, the BCDC had incredible success at keeping kids engaged and productive. Oksana--the owner of the school, is a highly dedicated to the kids success and ensures they reach their full potential. I am truly grateful to both her and the coaches for keeping debate program successful even during challenging times.

Enrolling in BCDC four years ago is the best decision I could have ever made. I started BCDC as a middle schooler with minimal debate experience who could not speak publicly without constant fear of judgement. Now, I am my high schools debate captain, have a plethora of accomplishments on the national level, and won my first bid to the TOC this weekend. None of those, however, could have been done without BCDC. My coaches, Max Albert and Ben Carson, have single handedly transformed me from someone who could not get through a speech in the novice division to someone who regularly advances in varsity. Whether it be in class, at tournaments, or when I have random debate questions in the middle of the night, I can always count on them to help whenever they can. Even coaches that I personally do not work with are always encouraging, supportive, and eager to help. However, I owe the most to Oksana and Vlad. Their unwavering support, valuable advice, and constant guidance through every stage of my debate career has probably been the biggest influence behind my successes thus far. BCDC has offered me countless opportunities, and without it I can guarantee I would not be the debater, student, or person I am today.
