My daughter is beginning her fourth year at Metrowest Dance Academy, and we could not be any happier with her dance education. The teachers are knowledgeable and patient, and have consistently shown an ability to connect with the students no matter if they are the youngest students or the more experienced dancers.One of the things I personally love about Metrowest Dance Academy is the extremely diverse student population; my daughter and I are fortunate to be surrounded by some truly wonderful people from so many different backgrounds and cultures.The Director of the studio, Gemma Williams, is a phenomenal teacher and cares so much for all her students. The yearly stage productions are amazing; all the dancers work so hard and the quality of the choreography is top-notch.My daughter LOVES her dance classes and we are looking forward to another great year at Metrowest Dance Academy!

Great place to learn ballet and other dance styles.

We are so thankful we found Metrowest Dance Academy! The studio atmosphere is encouraging and warm. The teachers are excellent and have high standards.The most amazing part of this community so far has been the fellow students. Full 10 stars to this place, Ive been looking for a dance school for my daughter, and MW Dance academy is a perfect fit! Staff is helpful and available, Mrs Williams is wonderful and very talented: shes strict but fun, kids enjoy the classes and dont feel pressured. And by watching older kids I know that its a place that takes dance very seriously, and my daughter will be learning a lot. After all, you want to see the results after spending your time and money, right?

Ms. Williams has a rare combination of being firm, warm, and funny. She manages to hold the students to high expectations without discouraging them when they, inevitably, make mistakes. My daughter and I have been very happy with MetroWest Dance Academy this year and we look forward to more years to come!

This is our second year at Metrowest Dance Academy and I cannot say enough good things about it - the community, the approach, the level of productions, the opportunities for children to learn what they can do when they practice. Mrs. Williams has created a studio that feels like home. The space is welcoming, the teachers are firm but friendly and the approach is truly on the art form of dance. I love watching as she and the other well-trained teachers usher my daughter into an art form she loves, showing her just what she is capable of in an age and skill appropriate way. The annual production is mind-blowingly amazing. When we attended 2018s Peter Pan I honestly had my jaw on the floor. The choreography, the lighting, the sets, were all incredible. And the students each did an incredible job, from the 3 year olds up through the high schoolers. It was a professional level production filled with well prepared, passionate, committed students. If you are looking for a studio that has heart, skill and challenge, this is the place for your family.

Although studio has a pleasant environment and appears professional on the outside, I have some issues with the school as a parent of a former student1) The students are behind in the national standards: Even the stars of their school are light years behind what dancers should be able to do in terms of their technique and abilities. Dancers, by 16 years old, the latest, should be able to take a full class en pointe, get through a 3 hour class, do real versions of classical and contemporary variations en pointe, partner, and take at least 18 hours of dance. The school cannot deliver this - the best student in their school takes off her pointe shoes by the middle of centre while the rest are discouraged to, the students are given many water breaks and chit-chat with teachers instead of working in their 1.5 hour classes (teachers make an effort to make sure that the students arent working too hard even though ballet is a sport), only two students were able to perform pointe variations in their winter showcase in a presentable manner (but they were Junior Sugarplum Fairy Variations and those students looked 16 or 17), there are no boys to partner with, and the school only offers about 10 hours of training to the highest level (when 18+ hours is recommended for them to succeed). When one of their students went to a trainee program at 18, she had to drop out2) They are dishonest: They keep promising/talented students with potential and desire for careers at their studio for money and marketing despite the fact that these students need more. Metrowest generally advises them to go to company schools at 18, when, in fact, students, in order to have even a chance to become professional ballet dancers, go to pre professional schools at 12 and company schools at 16. Ive seen multiple students with promise advised to stay, causing them to decline and lose their interest. Some even stopped taking ballet when a year ago, they were the best.3) Their teachers are un-professional: 3 out of the 6 teachers are recent college graduates, and the director never had a proper dance experience outside of her recreational ballet school (as in, she never studied dance in college nor been a professional dancer). She is trained in the RAD Syllabus, which is only set exercises for each level that the teachers memorize and are given tips to teach to the students.4) The students dont get performing experiences: They only have two big performances (back-to-back) per year. The best way to grow, and the FUN part of dancing is on the stage, and the students are deprived of this and the motivation that comes from it.5) The approach is laziness: While ballet is a disciplined art, as previously mentioned, the school ignores this because the teachers do not push the students, give water-breaks and lectures after a couple of exercises, and stop the students if the exercises are too heavy or they are working too hard even though ballet, as an athletic endeavor, like soccer and basketball, SHOULD be hard work! As a result, students do not progress or even decline, and, as a parent, it shows on stage. The most advanced students lack core control and proper turnout, which they should have mastered in elementary school.6) It is detrimental to health. Because the teachers do not teach how to properly activate certain muscles, the students are left on their own to figure it out, causing a some to get injured. One has been out since September even though she only danced the few hours the school offers.I understand that students may want to dance for fun, but if they do this here, it would only lead to disappointment. They would become committed only to find their academics slipping and, if they choose to go to summer intensive auditions, their abilities being half that of their peers. Its a double edged sword on their futures in academics/dance.

If I could give 100 stars I would. I have been dancing for more than 27 years taking lessons at Boston Ballet School, Boston Conservatory, Jose Mateo Dance and Madame Nora Irinova Venchi. I followed Gemma Williams and Sarah Cerulo to Metrowest Dance Academy because of their professionalism and the quality of the dance classes taught under the RAD syllabus. I have taken classes with some of the most talented pre teen and teenagers under the direction of Mr. Russell Clark at the academy who also teaches at Boston Conservatory. They are far superior then many students I have taken class with in other studios at their age. After a total knee replacement, I never thought I would ever dance again. But here I am thanks to the amazing teachers at this academy. I highly recommend this academy for any one of any age who is interested in dance.

Of the best schools in the Boston area, children are treated with respect and love. They are not one more number. The attention to parents is very attentive and clear. The teachers are very professional and with titles not only of dancers, but titles where they show that they know how to teach, that they have the correct methodology and are endorsed by the Royal Academy of Dance or RAD, the same to which Prince Williams son goes .
