We put two children through Fredericksburg Academy from kindergarten through 12th grade. Our son graduated in 2012 and our daughter in 2017. Our son has since graduated from college and is working and living successfully and independently as an adult. Our daughter is a freshman in college and is doing very well. Both were totally prepared to enter college and handle the work load expected of them. The rigorous curriculum at FA gave them the skills they needed to be successful at the collegiate level. They had no problems writing the required papers or managing their time. They were used to having strong support from their teachers at FA so utilizing the help of their professors came naturally to both of them. As importantly, because they were exposed to so many different opportunities while at FA, they entered college and the work world open to different ideas and opportunities with no fear of trying something new. We couldnt have made a better investment in our childrens futures. Five stars because we highly recommend FA.

Being a student here at Fredericksburg Academy has been a experience I wouldnt trade for anything. Im currently in 11th grade here at FA, and Ive been here a total of 12 years. In this time, Ive made lifelong friends, traveled abroad twice, received a state of the art education, won 3 state championships, given hours of community service (inside the country and abroad), found my passions, and so much more. FA is so much more than your average public school, its different - were all just so different. Walking into school each day, I feel as if Im valued, that my opinion matters. I can go to the Upper, Middle, and Lower schools and see familiar faces. Our campus is our classroom. I’ve known a majority of my peers since I was 4. At FA, I’m not afraid to speak my mind inside of the classroom or out. I can to talk to my teachers and build lasting relationships. I can experiment - find what works for me and what doesn’t. Everything I’ve mentioned is just how FA is. We experiment, we work together. It’s what makes us, us.

Have been very impressed with FA since we enrolled our oldest in Kindergarten 2 years ago. Enough cannot be said on how well the faculty engage the students. They have sparked a curiosity and the desire to learn in both of my children. Not only do they do a fantastic job in teaching academics, but they teach them how to be kind, honorable, and compassionate. They teach them to have fun while learning and how to be a good friend and communicator. Their experiences at FA are priceless!

What an amazing environment in which to teach, learn, and grow! Fredericksburg Academy is a true community of students, faculty, families, and supporters that helps nurture the strengths of each and every student and staff member. The size of FA is key to this amazing community. As a teacher, I love the small class sizes and a population of students that is just the right size so that everyone in the student body and the faculty can know each other and support each other. Students and faculty are given the freedom and flexibility they need to succeed because FA recognizes that everyone is truly unique and needs different things in order to succeed.

My 3 year old daughter was suspended and then expelled from Fredericksburg Academy for abnormal behavior. I had her evaluated by a child psychologist and even had the psychologist monitor her in the school...her professional conclusion: the behavior deemed abnormal by the school was in fact normal childhood behavior that the school was simply not sophisticated enough to deal with. They booted her despite the psychologists input and then refused to refund the tuition for the year, which I had paid in full up front (and this was early in the year). Since that time she has completed preschool with Fredeicksburg Childrens Academy (similar names but not the same school) and is now in kindergaten in Stafford Public Schools. Interesting, and telling, that neither of these schools found her behavior abnormal. Take home point, Beware of Fredericksburg Academy

My two children attended Fredericksburg Academy. Were really happy with the spirit of intellectual curiosity that FA instills. The culture is one of nurturing, intellectual rigor and integrity at all times. FA offers students the opportunity to dig deeply, emphasizing important life skills including literacy, science, technology, math and performing arts. They do NOT teach to a test. There are many opportunities for leadership and engagement. A huge percentage of the students study a musical instrument (beginning in 5th grade), play in the band, strings orchestra or chamber orchestra. Exceptionally good faculty lead the performing arts program, math and language arts. Fantastic Makerspace in the upper school that works with leaders from the DC/VA tech community. Fine arts teachers connect the students to the vibrant Fredericksburg arts community. Our kids loved the summer camp programs. We found the after school program (Falcon Club) especially helpful for us as working parents.Bottom line: It is a very functional school in an increasing dysfunctional world. So if youd like our next generation to be competent, capable leaders and contributors, make sure they get the best education possible in this area. We know that the next generation of leaders, inventors, artists and educators will have started their journey at Fredericksburg Academy. Were proud to be part of the FA community!

Our son and daughter were at 2 separate schools at the beginning of the school year, in 7th grade at Faith Baptist and at Walker Grant for 8th grade. Even before we set the appointment time for the tour, the administration staff was very welcoming and patient with all of our questions. When we went on the tour, my husband and I were really impressed with the friendly attentiveness of all the instructors. They all seemed remarkably enthusiastic about teaching their specific subject. Our son was able to go on a very well-organized overnight conservational awareness field trip to the Port Isobel and has also gone to Culpeper to plant trees. In science, they do not just talk about helping the environment; they empower the children to show them they can make a difference by committing time to their ideals. Our daughter was also very spirited in her description of the Physics Olympics. Our daughter has also participated in the Grandparents’ Day program with 3 other amazingly blended singers that showcased the talented leadership of the choir director. It was also nice that it was called “Grandparent’s and Special Friends Day” as our Children do not have grandparents that are able to attend these activities at the school. Our daughter has also been playing on the soccer team that is actually coached by a previous Pro Soccer Player for Trinidad and Tobago! Her skills and her confidence have improved tremendously in just a few weeks. Our daughter has always enjoyed school but she did surprise me a little the other day when she said she was disappointed that there were only 7 more weeks of school left before summer break. Our son, who can be a little bit of an introvert, indicated that he felt more at home in his new school after a few weeks than he did after a few months the last time he transferred schools to move to middle school. Other postings had mentioned bullying so we were a little concerned with placing our children in a new school so late in the year but our children felt like they were really made to feel at home by both fellow students and all of the staff. We are so grateful for all the teachers and their helpful communication via e-mails and their willingness to talk in person as well. Their commitment to making sure the student, the parent and the teacher are all up to date re: the student’s level of preparedness has been so appreciated. We are looking forward to the college prep years ahead as they start High School soon at FA. The teachers seem to be very focused on identifying each student’s talents and encouraging their best without making them stressed to the point that the students shut down. They learn how to present in front of others utilizing technology and to collaborate in teams, similar to teams that they would need to function in for their future jobs.

We have a 9th grader who just started at FA this school year. We chose FA because we were looking for a school that would engage our teenager on both an academic and social level, while providing him with a challenging academic experience. We were concerned that he would get lost in the shuffle at a large public school. He has been very happy there this year and we have been very impressed. The teachers are dedicated and very interested in the kids, are accessible and give detailed and helpful feedback, which is only possible when class sizes are small and intimate, as they are at FA. The student/teacher interaction and feedback that we have received have far exceeded our expectations, especially compared to what we used to receive in public school. Our main concern was that FA was too small, and that it would be hard for him to break into social groups since most of the students have known each other for quite a long time. He felt accepted from early on and is making friends. In addition, he is thriving in his classwork and is benefitting by being around a group of kids who are academically motivated to do well. We have been very happy with our decision.

Much better than even the best public high school. Get away from block scheduling, 90 minute long classes, and SOLs.

As a parent of four FA students who begin 2nd, 4th, 5th and 8th grades tomorrow, I cannot say enough about the strength of Fredericksburg Academys curriculum and the professional commitment of the faculty and staff to build an engaging, dynamic learning environment for FA students. With the schools small class size, honor code, and myriad of clubs, extracurricular enrichment, and athletic/sports opportunities, we are thrilled to have our children in a school committed to the best interests of the childrens well being, character and academic development. There is not a more important investment than the one we have chosen to make in Fredericksburg Academy for our children and our family.
