My son and I dropped in to train here while we were on vacation in Galveston. Evan was very welcoming to us and made it comfortable to join in with the group. We attended a no gi class. It was a small group because of the holiday, but there was still one young woman in the class. Everyone was respectful to her and she seemed like she was comfortable and enjoying the training. That says a lot to me about the atmosphere of a gym. They were all about the jiu jitsu!Seemed like a smart, safe, fun group of people to train with. Good game and fun to roll with.If I lived in the Galveston area, Id be going back for sure.

I was on vacation for a week and asked Evan if I could come train while I was down there. He graciously welcomed me. I went on a Wednesday night and was immediately welcomed by Evan and the other students. As soon as class began I knew I was in for some good jits. Evan instructed great technique and drove a nice pace. The students there were a rugged crew, yet safe and respectful. I hope I can train there again next time Im in town!!

Evan Gideon is a great instructor. He teaches Jiu Jitsu with easy to understand instructions. He makes sure he answers any questions and utilizes other black belt instructors to help teach class. The other students are all very respectful and no one comes to the mat with arrogance. Everyone is welcome. I drive from Texas City to Galveston BJJ because I know this is the best place to train in the county. Its a very small gym but it is about to double in size November 2017. Evan is a very sincere person and you can see how much he loves people as well as the community. He is great with the children. He is polite while still firm in holding the kids to his standards.

Where to even start? The classes are awesome no matter your skill level. You can walk in off the street and walk out knowing something new. Talking about walking in, the first class experience is great. No matter how awkward you may think youd feel, its not. The coaches AND students are super friendly. I have never been a part of something where it felt like a genuine family. Evan, the owner, is the best. For real. Not only does he care about your success on the mats, but off the mats as well. We even postponed moving off the island because I didnt want to leave this place. If you are looking for something that is fun, mentally and physically challenging, and at a place where you will make lots of friends, this is the place to be. No doubt one of the best parts about Galveston.

Ive been training for a few months in Missouri and since no vacation is complete without doing some jiujitsu, I wanted to find a spot to train while I was in Galveston. Evan and the guys at Galveston BJJ were very welcoming of me as a total stranger and I got some world class training. I for sure leveled up my jiujitsu game and would fully recommend Galveston BJJ. If I’m ever down here again I will for sure be coming back.

My son has been training with Coach Evan at Galveston BJJ for a little over a year now. I cannot say enough positive things about the whole experience. It is not just Brazilian jujitsu being taught here, it is a whole mental outlook of respect. Evan is amazing with kids and also does camps, etc. honestly when my child is acting up and I don’t know what to do I go straight to Evan and he helps me with a solution. The kids really look up to him, he will even look at report cards!! I’m just grateful to have him as part of the community and my sons life, we need more male role models like this.

I have been training here regularly for almost 6 months and though Ive not been to the other schools on the island, its because my research led me here and I found my home. The lineage (GFTeam) is intact and traceable all the way back to Maeda(who taught the first Gracie). Coach Evan is a great instructor who encourages his students to ask questions and take notes, and will push you to be better physically and technically. I have also taken private lessons with him and they have really helped me to progress a long way in a short time.My peers are all awesome, the facilities are growing steadily, and this is the real deal. Come train!

My son takes BJJ here. Evan is great with the kids. We had a tough time finding an activity outside of school that our son enjoyed. Jiu-Jitsu, somewhat surprisingly, is exactly what the doctor ordered. He works up a sweat with every lesson, and keeps coming back for more.
