Most employees were very friendly and welcoming. Others should learn how to treat people the way they want to be treated or spoke to.

By far the best college experience you can get at any maritime academy in the nation. I hated being a cadet at the time, but looking back I only remember the good times. I appreciated that it was still possible to get somewhat of a normal college experience, and that non-license option students make up a majority of the student population. Plus, I think the school has rid itself of most of the toxic maritime faculty, and is well on its way to living up to its potential. I just really hope they get a new ship soon.

My daughter attends TAMUG. It the perfect community for her. Of course it hasnt been the same since COVID. All her classes have been online. She visits every other week with the student club she directs. I tagged along for a Mommy-daughter mini vacation to Galveston.

This review is based on my first conversation with a campus employee. I will provide additional information after a visit & tour.I just completed an extremely helpful conversation with an employee in the Admissions Dept re tours, majors, name it-it was possibly asked 🤭 Everything was answered thoroughly with extra detail as needed. As a parent scheduling college visits, and passing info along to my Student to make decisions, this is an excellent beginning. My thanks to Steven for his helpfulness.

Texas A&M Galveston is keeping my cousin throughout spring and summer break. I now have nobody to take me fishing. Quite unimpressed by these terrible circumstances.

Texas A&M University at Galveston (TAMUG) is an ocean-oriented branch campus of Texas A&M University offering both undergraduate and graduate degrees that are awarded from Texas A&M Universityin College Station. Students enrolled at Texas A&M University at Galveston, known affectionately as Sea Aggies, share the benefits of students attending Texas A&M University (TAMU) campus in College Station. TAMUG is located on Pelican Island, offering benefits for its maritime focused majors. Enrollment at TAMUG increased from 551 in 1987 to more than 2000 students in 2012, with projected growth to 3000 students in the coming years. Students originate from 49 different states and the District of Columbia. Science and engineering majors number 75 percent of the student body; 43 percent are women; about 50 percent reported themselves to have been in the top 20 percent of their high school class. Fifty-seven percent plan to pursue a master’s or Ph.D. degree and about 65 percent receive some type of financial aid.On campus housing is available and may be required for some students. The campus offers volleyball courts, a gym, pool, tennis courts, indoor basketball court, a student center, and many other amenities. Changes and modernizations are happening fast, with recently added residential dorms and a new corps dorm being built for completion early 2016.

A place where everyone hopes to go for a year and pursue the rest of their college career in College Station or be a Mariner. But truth is after 1 year here you cant help but love this place and end up calling it home.

✏I spent two incredibly wonderful, fun, scholastic-humbling, difficult, exasperating, soul-searching, friendship-bonding, intellectual expansion and morality building years at TAMUG. There is nothing I would change about the experience. Should you choose this university due Only to the big name draw of Tx A&M and the fact the campus is on its own small island, Pelican Island, just off Galveston you may find yourself in for a shock. This is a scientific university. I remember my freshmen semester elective was computer-science (FORTRAN). ...So yea, I should mention this was 24 years ago in 1989-1990.✏In 1989 TAMUG was ranked third in the nation for Marine Science studies. All instructors had earned PhDs in the topic of which they taught. This includes my eye-opening rated R-version History Professor! ( real history vs the G-PG version taught by the High School coach. ) I arrived to discover no social structure what-so-ever~ and for a geek like me ~ it was everything I had hoped University would be for me and ...so much more.❤I enjoyed discovering Galveston Island which plays host to a yearly Mardi Gras festival, Galveston Island Jazz & Blues Festival and a Victorian-themed Christmas festival called Dickens on the Strand (honoring the works of novelist Charles Dickens, especially A Christmas Carol) in early December. Galveston is home to several historic ships: the tall ship Elissa (the official Tall Ship of Texas) at the Texas Seaport Museum and USS Cavalla and USS Stewart, both berthed at Seawolf Park on nearby Pelican Island. So if Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics are your best subjects this may be the Home-Away-from-Home-Higher-Learning-Institution of which you have been dreaming‼
