I am very pleased with the education that my child is getting at BHA. Children feel safe and at home with their fellow Muslim brothers and sisters. The staff is dedicated and very helpful. For every one person that might be displeased with this school, I hear hundreds of testimonies from parents that are very pleased and keep sending their kids there. I moved from another State to place my kid in a good islamic School and BHA fit the criteria. My only complaint is that traffic around the school is not well managed and hope that the Administration will come up with a solution as the school is growing and more and more people wish to enroll their kids there.

Premier educational institution (K-12) doing more with less for the community. The dedication of the teachers who stick around is commendable. Understandably, some teachers find greener pastures elsewhere. The myopic but vocal parents who are constantly fighting pay raises for the teachers (well below Garland ISD) should send their kids elsewhere (sad but must be said). The IB program is ramping along a proven path.Truly means needed families can discuss their needs with the umbrella organization in a confidential manner without knowledge to the school administrator for subsidies.

I taught high school math few years ago in this prestigious Islamic high school and truely believe they have curriculum and education standards. One aspect is true that the young kids get Islamic education and culture in terms of Islamic studies, Arabic and quran and the second is about educational standards on par with state and national average. There are too many ways they can contribute with because this is one of the oldest and biggest Islamic schools in the state of Texas and North America. Still, it is believed to be one of the top Islamic schools in the nation and the efforts of the board needs a big appreciation for their support and achievements.

BHA is an amazing Islamic School. We moved across country 7 years ago for our two kids to attend BHA. Alhamdulellah, it was worth the move. The school offers strong academic education in an Islamic environment that strengthens and enforces the Islamic identity in our kids, including very good Islamic curriculum, regular prayers during school hours, Ramadan observance, in addition to volunteer work within and outside the school to help instill the Islamic sense of community service and social work in kids. Alhamdulellah, both of our kids did very well and are now attending University on full academic scholarships.

A few years back I had all my kids in public school. They never were able to retain information and get the help they need from their educators. Two years ago I enrolled my three kids in Brighter Horizons Academy, Alhamdullilah. It was the best decision. Not only are my kids getting the education they deserve, they are surrounded by the beauty of the religion, Islam. The teachers have been excellent and communicate very well with both the parents and students. After this pandemic hit, the school made the decision to switch to virtual learning. The virtual learning is extremely well organized and my kids are still learning as they would in person. My plan is to keep all my kids in Brighter Horizons Academy until they graduate high school. Truthfully, out of all the surrounding islamic schools we considered, Brighter Horizons was truly the best, cleanest, and clearly the best choice for my family.Dr Mohammad Jasari, M.d.

This school is the worst school I have ever sent my kids to. The teachers think they teach good but in reality all they really do is just fail the students. They charge $850+ for horrible education, part of their insanely high tuition is because they put too much unneeded staff that do not do anything and they do not hire enough teachers. They need to fix their school instead of raising tuition every month.

I have never had an issue that the school did not attempt to resolve. Yes, there have been some changes over the years but the core values of the school have not changed. I never have to worry about my children as their teachers and the admin make the right choice for their safety and success. Also, as a teacher at the school I am always supported when It comes to providing my students with quality education. The administration focuses on the students and their learning. We individualize our planning to meet students needs at different levels and cater to their interests. Our teachings are research-based and statistics show that they are effective. Students scores on MAP and STAAR tests have proven that our students continue to grow and show great performance over the years.I am lucky to be part of this school as a staff and a parent.

The school certainly has talent and upholds the qualities essential to our society today. It is also a blessing to have a well-established Islamic school, considering how most of our society has become in todays day in age. Although, there are certainly things to improve on.I feel like the tuition fee is disrespectful towards the attitudes the school is willing to achieve. Islam does not come at a price for us who were born Muslim. The hundreds of dollars per month for every student should not be the way it is. Parents send their children to learn and expose themselves to am astounding environment of Islamic followings. A lot say that the school as a whole has been declining, due to the students. Although, I dont feel it is the students fault at all. Teachers a lot of the time get very mad at small things and do not know how to deal with that less than 20% of kids who purposely do not do well. If you go to a Public school, of course Islam is not highly established, but they all respect students. The teachers there are always happy, dedicated, and willing to work and help the students. They actually show that. The level of cussing and immaturity is also very high sometimes. Students are rarely ever reminded of the consequences of these things, how it will affect them later throughout their life, etc. One person being this way affects everyone throughout. Because if 75% of a class is cussing a lot, then the other 25% does not feel scared at all do the same. The level of homework is also crazy most of the time. Students brains should not have to 90% be consuming what homework they have, the three tests they have tomorrow, how a teacher lied but the teacher knows students cant do anything about it, etc. Students should partially be let free to experience the outside world, learn to interact professionally, etc. They should not have to be pressured so much. If you have like four assessments in the day, who do you blame for getting a bad grade in one of them; the teacher, or the student?

We came to this school close to 8 years ago. It has been a life changing experience for us. Here there is a sense of community for everyone. There is diversity, kindness, knowledge, friendships and a real care for others. You dont have to be popular to get a helping hand. There is forgiveness. I once experienced a student that did some horrible HORRIBLE things but he was treated with kindness, fairness and given the honor to lead a khutba on Friday. It was a special moment for everyone, especially his family since they didnt or believe he could deliever such a beautiful message. He never thought he could be deliver the khutba for his school. Alhamduallah. The school goes from Pre K to 12 grade. Some students and their families have been there for year. When things dont go right, and life always gives us something a challenge, they come to this school. This school that treats everyone with respect, lends a hand and a hug to everyone.I have seen parents and families leave thinking the school has done wrong by them, and they come back. They come back because here they know their kids are safe, and here they know we dont have it perfect but at least we try, and here, no matter what they have done they will be welcomed back. It requires a big heart to do this.I will write more, stay tuned.

We are very happy with the school. We have had experiences with other private schools and Islamic schools, and BHA does an excellent job of providing educational and recreational opportunities to students in an environment that values our religious identity. No school can raise your children for you, or be all things for all people. If it’s doing it’s job, then kids are learning academic AND real life lessons to prepare them for the outside world. The staff at BHA are professionals and are very caring for the well being of their students. Our kids are quite happy here as well.

Ms. Insaaf is very impolite and very impatient.BHA students, including the staff and faculty are racist towards Pakistani students. I’m sure this stems from home so parents need to stop being racist and teach their children the same. I am not exaggerating or being hyperbolic one bit when I tell you all that this is one of the most important Islamic institutions in this country. I will urge you all to completely disregard any of the ratings you read that are below 5 stars. Here’s why.First of all, I attended this institution for 12 years. That’s right. 12 full years! From 1st grade all the way until I graduated and went on to attend a university. I doubt many of the people posting reviews for this institution attended it as long as I did. I was attending this school when it was basically a little shack on Polk St. in Richardson. I was attending this school when they were renting out the top floor of a Taiwanese church in Richardson. And I was attending this school when the first phase of the new main campus was completed in Garland. Throughout it ALL, I experienced nothing short of perfection from the administration, staff, and board of directors. You will not find a school in the country that will better prepare your children for their lives as Muslim Americans in the 21st century. I have friends that attended several different Islamic schools in the country and I can tell you without a shred of doubt that not one Islamic school in America combines Islamic and secular education as well as BHA does. Your child will be getting a 5 star religious education as well as a 5 star secular education for a cost that is pennies compared to top tier private schools in the area (St. Marks, Greenhill, Hockaday, etc.) I highly recommend parents that are considering enrolling their child or children in an Islamic school to go straight to BHA and don’t bother checking the other options. If you are not living in the DFW area, I encourage you with all the sincerity in my heart to move here and enroll your children in this school. insha’Allah when the times comes and I have children of my own, I will be doing the same! I ask that Allah (SWT) to continue to bless this institution and all of those who were and are a part of it!

We’ve been at BHA now for 8 years and we love it. I have 3 out of my 4 kids there and pretty soon my youngest will join his siblings in Prek1. Bha has a strong curriculum and is the only Islamic school to have the pyp program which I love! The children learn through doing experiments and hands on activities rather than plain memorizing which works great. The school has graduated many children that have gone on to become arroyo and doctors and engineers from highly valued IVy league universities! My 6 year old has memorized more Quran than I have and loves to learn more of the Arabic and Islamic studies which the school is really good at. It was important to us , with having 3 girls, to have a good Islamic environment to learn in and Hamdillah Bha provides that. The school is also really strong in the other basic subjects and they test for Staar (even though as a private school they don’t have to); just to make sure the kids are way ABOVE what’s expected in public school ;that’s also a big relief for me. My kids now attend what supposed to be one of the best Islamic schools in the US.I was reading the reviews and I understand some of the negative reviews which are legitimate frustrations and problems within most Islamic schools even the best ones and there are many reasons which are explained better by many authors online who worked and have experience in Islamic schools, also I understand the many challenges starting from financial to regulatory that face all Islamic schools. What I dont understand is whoever is replying to the reviews here is just commenting on five star reviews with a sense of pride and complacency, and not addressing the negative reviews which ARE legitimate and are existent in our new born Islamic education in the US, unfortunately this attitude is universal related in part to our cultural backgrounds, take negative comments as insults rather than an advise to fix our problems though this must be an Islamic value to receive negative comments with positive attitude to fix our shortcomings. Islamic schools are work in progress and developing in slow steps. We have to support Islamic schools but I think it will take sometime until next generation take over management to take the schools to next level. At this time most Islamic schools BOD have no experience with education and a lot of times they make improvised decisions with good will.

Being a faith based school, it’s focus is not just inculcation of religious values in the students but this school works hard to attain academic excellence. Kids get minimal homework and a lot of hands on learning in class. The arabic department has introduced the kutubee library of arabic story books to provide a resource of language development which I love. BHA has been a place where I sought comfort since I have been there my entire life. However, the last few years spent there felt like I was being punished for not being favorited by some teachers and staff. There have been great teachers and staff that have made the greatest impact on me and to strive to be a better person but the negative situations I have been placed in because the lack of professionalism frustrates me. I wouldnt have complained but I am in college now, 5 months in, and still dealing with a problem that hasnt been solved since I started my college applications in the beginning of my senior year. My college has not received my final official transcript from the guidance counselor, Ms. Mehnaz who was first an English teacher then ECE principal before switching to handling students’ futures, which has caused multiple problems. They have received my dual credit since I was able to send it on my own electronically but since they havent received my high school transcript, my college has withheld multiple grants and scholarships that are supposed to pay for this past semester and the following. This has not been the only incident that I have dealt with regarding my future at a higher education but this has been the breaking point since they are still causing harm to my future. I am not the only one to have issues, I have been warned from years before and my peers were sharing similar stories throughout their senior year. College guidance is not the only issue students have to deal with but it is a major one, no one takes the students feedback seriously and they spend their years unhappy, anxious, and bullied by the leadership from teachers and staff to members on the board and the parents who control BHA through their income. This school has more negative role models than positive because the teachers and staff participate in gheebah and namemah (back-biting and gossiping) more than the 800+ students on campus and while they preach us ayat of the Quran, their actions oppose their words. I truly hope the school shifts from this era of poor leadership and hypocrisy that has tarnished the BHA I grew up to love and they are in my duaa along with the adults that actually care about the students. The BHA I know now has a subpar environment but good education that could possibly balance each other out but the lack of professionalism, incompetence, and regard for the students makes this school the bad choice for any parent. Dont send your kids here, for the sake of them.

If I get a response from the school, then maybe they are finally willing to accept positive change. Please, PLEASE dont blame the reputation of the school on the students. All the bad reviews on here are focused mainly on the staff. Not saying there arent good staff members at the school, but a lot of them are leaving and wont be here next year. Frankly, neither will I. Im so tired of this corrupt school implementing extreme and radical rules and regulations. How do they think they are shaping the minds of these young students they say they care about so much? If you are thinking about bringing your child to the school for any of these reasons, here is why you shouldnt:1. My child will be protected from relationships with the opposite gender: If you want your child to never be able to handle talking to a girl and objectify women, then send them here. The things these kids say about the girls are disgusting, and they get away with it all the time. Why is this school taking extreme measures to separate boys and girls, and then when these kids graduate and go to college, their view on girls is so misconstrued. Plus, a guy and a girl were caught kissing in one of the classrooms, so it really doesnt matter anyway.2.) My child will be protected from drugs: There were kids literally vaping in the bathroom. So yeah, if they say that problem is eliminated, it most certainly isnt.3.) My child will be able to form relationships with his/her teachers: While some teachers do have the ability to treat their students as equals, it is a trait that many, MANY teachers lack. Teachers can be so biased against you, they will turn their face away in disgust just by looking at you. Theyre extremely judgmental, sexist, and they act like theyve never been teenagers before. Teachers like Ms. Eman would fit under this category. This list can go on and on and on, but honestly, the kids here are sexist, racist, and just terrible people. These are the minds that are being shaped by the schools leaders. Keep on accepting that tuition money BHA. The enrollment rates are decreasing, and without a few select parents, youd be struggling greatly. Isa will probably come back to Earth before I get a reply.

This school gets worse every year. The administration is filled with muslims who only use islam to protect themselves. They do not follow the rules in Islam when it benefits them. They assume, lie, manipulate, and accuse whomever they want. They are also sexist and bias. They dont understand the meaning of confidentiality as they will tell the whole muslim ummah about the faults of one, and make them look bad in the eyes of everyone. They target specific students and throw everything on them. It is so sad to see how much the teachers and admin backbite about the students (even the quran teachers who teach about the ayat that tell us not to do these things, how ironic) and expect the students to be angels. PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH!!! One student can get away with something, while another student is punished for the same thing, right in front of their eyes. They are afraid of wealthy families, so they usually let those kids get away with more, so their families will keep giving them their money. This school is the opposite of islamic and I DO NOT recommend it for your kids. It may keep them away from drugs (not even 100%), but they will gain the habits of backbiting, lying, and many other horrible habits.

For a kid her age to mention their names after all this time in a positive way is beautiful. BHA Prek1 and probably prek2 are great. I do not have any experience with upper grades. My daughter only went to Prek1 then we moved. There are a few things that I didn’t like about the school itself. But the Prek1 and prek2 teachers are great. And the PTO group are also very friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed being part of the PTO.

Alhamdullilah this school has been one of the best blessing Allah (swt) the AlMighty has blessed upon me and other fellow students attending Brighter Horizons. The teachers are amazing and care dearly for their students. Nothing gets in the way of education. Quran, Islamic, and Arabic departments are very beautiful, they all bring us closer to the religion and language of the Al-Mighty. May Allah grant this school even more success and inshallah brighter horizons will continue to grow.Go stars! 🌟

A student that is ready for challenges and competition and also possesses qualities like open-mindedness, good sportsmanship, and the desire to advance in their studies should attend Brighter Horizons Academy. Brighter Horizons Academy is a college preparation institute; it succeeds in preparing its students by presenting us with challenges and curriculum of those in college. We, the students, gain an ability to analyze what is around us in an advanced way. Every day, we are reminded of our Lord and how we should act in our lives according to the Holy Quran and Sunnah. In addition, our grades and GPA are not the only thing that students worry about; they also strive to learn any other extra knowledge that would decrease ignorance and help them in future situations. Because of the diversity present at Brighter Horizons, a student is expected to be open-minded to the opinion of others. This helps us see through others eyes and understand how different people can work together to reach a goal.

This is my 10th yesr being a parent here. The school has taught my daughter Muslim pride in her dress, the way she talks and how she responds to unexpected challenges. Since I have crossed so much distance I can see how this school has allowed her to grow, formulate opinions and and come into her own space comfortablely. I am very thankful for who she has become, and BHA has played a major rolw in that!!💖

If only their was the option of no stars. I hate this school so much that even as a senior the thought of changing schools occurs daily but I have the patience to hold back and tell myself that theirs only a couple of months left and then youll never see this place again. This school is so irresponsible that when installing a score board they damaged the citys power main power cause many surrounding places to lose electricity. On top of that they kept send emails that theyll inform us at this time only to postpone informing us all they way to 5AM. They hate their students that much that after such a big incident they still want to torcher the kids by having come to school without properly checking if everything is ok. Its very unprofessional to keep postponing a deadline and informing parents at 5AM in morning if they have school or not is seen as a very desperate attempt to make the kids suffer. A school with professionalism would close the next day even if the problem was resolved in order to ensure the safety of their students by making sure everything is really ok. Dont assume that if you fix the problem in time many parents are proud of you, rather many parents are disappointed at the lack of professional you have chosen. Lastly, if you have no mercy on your students today just remember that tomorrow they will have no mercy on you.

My child attends this school and truly claims to hate it. He says that the teachers are rude and dont care about the children as individuals. They just throw demerits out for no reason. ITS CRAZY!!!! Some teachers that drove my son insane include: Mrs. Eman, Mrs. Reema, Mrs. Raeda, Mrs.Rasha, Mrs. Farah, and most of the IQA dept.

Having had my children at BHA for four academic years, I must say that the quality of elementary and childhood education (ECE) measured by the administration and majority of the staff has significantly deteriorated over the last two years with the new high school principal meddling in their decisions. This has effectively shifted the school mission from being an Islamic educational and developmental environment to pleasing certain parents and donors (read: PTO). This was my experience in summary. However, you may want to give the school a try for your own experience. Luckily there are many Islamic schools in the metroplex.

I attended BHA for the first two months of first grade in 1991 (yes, I am getting quite old). Back then, BHA was like a start-up. They werent accredited by the State, their facilities were old and run-down, and resources were scarce and heavily relied upon by private donors. Fast forward 25 years later, and now you have this beautiful school that is not only accredited, but consistently graduating students that are attending top schools across the nation and working for fortune 500 companies. My little sister attended this school from kindergarten to her senior year of high school, and attended Baylor afterwards and is now a licensed dentist with a great career and a very promising future. I have a few friends who also went to BHA and later on attended top tier educational institutions and now work for big-companies, making high salaries and giving back to their community. What prompted this review is not because of my little sisters or my friends accomplishments, but because of one reviewer below who went on to rant about how this school does not embrace but one culture, and how they only employ from this one alleged culture. I dont know what world that person lives in, but did you know that most teachers and administrators here are knowingly underpaid, compared to local teaching salaries, just because they want to teach here, and not because they are part of a certain race and culture? Did you know this school still heavily relies on private donors, and some quarters fails to meet their income requirements to balance their sheets, while at the same time allowing dozens, if not 100 or more students, to attend this school for free? Most importantly, did you know that this school does in fact employ people from different races and backgrounds, including WHITE and BLACK people, as you are so concerned about? Did you know that one of those so called over-qualified teachers that didnt get a job here happens to be someone I know, who just so happens to belong to the majority culture, but did not get the job because this person couldnt accept a low salary due to their personal financial needs? Please, review this school fairly, and not because of some delusional presumptions that are clearly not based on facts. Thank you!

I will highlight my observation in regards to BHA. You do not have to agree with it, but I am certain a lot of folks will agree to my observation:1. Leadership Team - The main campus principal (Ms Erum) has minimal empowerment and has to refer and consult issues with the board, which itself is a joke and highly unresponsive when contacted directly. Ms Erum needs to make judgement calls more frequently and serve her role as an experienced principal versus relying on an inefficient / volunteer members of the board. Moreover, the ECE principal should not be employed at any school let alone serve as a principal. She is highly incompetent, unqualified, lacks communication and leadership skills. Shes not liked by majority of the community. Hint: Insaaf Lachtar2. Tarbiya & Dept Head - The director of Tarbiya (Mr. Adnan) is a manipulator and highly political figure. He was out of school once and should’ve stayed out and served a true purpose elsewhere. He tends to protect his cronies that belong to his culture deep under his wing. They shouldve retired back in the 70s. The head of the dept has zero english writing skills. I am pretty sure he knows that he resides in America. Hint: Niman Alshareef. Mr. Niman & Adnan, need to retire and give up such a valuable position to someone who really knows this section / department and can run it while being a great resource to the student community. Social security checks are around the corner guys. Take immediate advantage of it before it’s gone.3. Tarbiya program suggestion: Get rid of current Arabic curriculum and bring on the Quranic Arabic curriculum from Bayyinah (follow Good Tree Academy) instead of street / slang arabic thats currently taught and considered garbage to non-arabs. Ask any non-arab student community there and they spend many years in Arabic class only to learn well NOTHING. Its only there to call this school perhaps Islamic, but sorry to burst your bubble but I rather not have kids learn street Arabic as it sounds VERY harsh to begin with. Wallahi ‘Akhi !!4. “Un-Islamic” Studies – Well why did I call it ‘un-islamic’? Most of the Islamic teachers (except Br. Sami, he’s the BEST) do need to enroll themselves in Islamic studies as they lack character, talk loud and do not know a thing of teaching. Yelling at students, trashing them with harsh words, etc is what students learn in Islamic studies. Hint: Majida (high school instructor). Great job Majida on wishing bad to the kids who moved on and departed from BHA to continue their study at another high school. You are such a great contributor and you have a LOVELY character and you’re NOT mean. NOT !! Keep collecting that paycheck in the name of education. Just remember what you are teaching you are not getting any reward from Allah SWT as you’re character is unpleasant to over 75% of student community. Please apply at local Wal-Mart instead of being under the wing your cronies at BHA. Pathetic you are !!5. Student Affairs – This section of BHA is probably the most decent one that’s run by Akram. Although I must say that he does have his days though, sorta like male PMS. Dread them days, students. At times he’s very authoritative and suffers from ego which is certainly ‘un-islamic’ to say the least. However, he probably the only person there with decent experience in dealing with kids and handling their behavior. He’s certainly qualified and does his job plus majority of the school is scared of him which keeps the students in check.6. I do agree with other reviews that the school needs more diversity especially in the board. Hint: Non-Arabs. For some very odd reason they are highly unpleasant to deal with and certainly not approachable. If you contact them via email, forget that you will get a response. You have a better chance of getting a response from someone who doesn’t know how to write English. Hint: Nimaaaaaan

The school is quite beautiful, however, when I visited recently I noticed there was not a diverse group of staff working there in addition to the students. Due to its expensive cost for students to attend the school, it clearly is targeting a particular group of people economically and culturally without considering it as an institution for all Muslims. As I observed, a large majority of the staff and students were of the same culture in addition to the members of their board. I am very active in the DFW Muslim community and have been told from several Muslims who are African, African-American, Hispanic/Latinos, White, etc. who are highly educated & qualified, experienced in teaching/leadership, well versed in Quran and in practicing their Deen who have applied for positions at BHA and were not hired. They were told they were over qualified or that they were seeking someone else even though they were qualified for the position. Is it because they were not of the right race/culture, background or not referred by someone in your clique? I also have been told by a number of parents who once had their children attending this school that the students do not seem to value their education nor their Deen as much as students who attend some of the other surrounding Islamic schools because as soon as school is out, you can see many of the young Muslim girls removing their hijabs before getting off the campus. A good education is one that ensures its institution has diversity which include people of different economic status, race and background. This helps people to know and understand one another especially since our society is made up of diverse groups (Quran 49:13). So, to lack diversity is not the way of Islam and the way of Prophet Muhammad (saw).Contrary to belief, Racism is a huge issue throughout the world and our Muslim communities are far from being exempt from it. However, when you orchestrate an institution where it is targeting a certain economic status, hiring a certain race or culture then you are simply educating the youth to be bias of others who are not like them. Hiring of one or two individuals who may be African, African-American, White, Chinese, Hispanic, etc. while majority of the staff, board and students are of the same culture & background is not diversity...instead its a disappointment that an Islamic institution for our youth tends to lack the implementation of character, community and diversity. For these reasons, I was not impressed. When we know better, we should do better. Allahu Alim.
