I strongly believe everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion, so I’ll try my best not to push back against Jeff’s and the unknown posters comments. I have two children currently practicing martial art at Flying Tiger and it’s one of the best decision/investments I have made. I did extensive research on the various styles and school before enrolling my kids. After trying Flying Tiger for one month free I decided to keep the kids enrolled. My daughter and son love it, and the disciplines and leadership they developed from practice carry over into their community. My kids are involved in many sports and activities, but when given the choice to select a single activity and they would select martial art. This is due to two reasons. First; Master Sao and the other instructors are great. They demand perfection; however, they allow the students to have fun while learning. You know that old saying; “whatever you do make sure you have fun doing it”. Secondly; they award them for hard work, and nothing is given to them. For example; my son and daughter started at the same time, but my daughter is in a higher belt because of her hard work.I will say there are more children involve than adults, but let’s be honest. How many adults get up in the morning and say I think I want to do martial art. Many of us regret that we missed out on the opportunity to do martial art in our younger years. The school intentionally target children because children need it the most. Can’t speak for every parent, but I would like to know that if a shooting happen in a school my children stands a chance of surviving or if bullies decided to pick on my child they will quickly realize they picked on the wrong child. Most importantly, so many of our children sit around and play video games, this is a good way to keep them healthy while having fun.For those parents wondering if they could or if they should take martial art; I strongly encourage it. After one year of sitting on the side line I finally joined my kids in taking martial art. Oh Jeff; my class is 90% adults with more than 10 students. Although my kids and I practice different styles it has created a common bond between us. We constantly find ways to demonstrate our style to each other, and they love to brag when they earn a promotion.Great school!!!

Master Seo is amazing! We relocated and our daughter wa out of the game for about 6 months. We signed up and she is back to where she left off 5 weeks later. This is a place where learning is fun. A lot to offer great classes that are not overcrowded! Ten stars!!!

Our experience at Flying Tiger Martial Arts in Garner has been nothing short of high quality, amazing instruction and personal attention to our family. Master Seo in particular has the ability to both inspire students to reach their highest potential while at the same time keeping it fun and, keeping them coming back for more! All of the instructors are clearly dedicated to the students and families at Flying Tiger Martial Arts before, during and after classes. I have seen a definite, positive change in attitude with my youngest son in particular after attending classes with Master Seo and his team of experienced instructors. More than just mastering the techniques of martial arts, you and your family will learn about courage, loyalty, and respect for others and self. We have been a part of the Flying Tiger Martial Arts family since my oldest son began in 2011 and continues with my youngest son joining in 2012. We look forward to another great year at Flying Tiger Martial Arts! Highly recommended!

We joined Flying Tiger Martial Arts in July of 2012 at the recommendation of a friend whose daughter is still a student there- we have not been disappointed!! My daughter is currently a green belt and has loved every minute of it. She often begs to go to class more than just twice a week! This has been the best investment we could have made in her self-discipline, self-esteem and physical fitness. Master Seo is not only a martial arts expert, but also has an amazing personality and wonderful rapport with the students and parents. Master Erin and Master Frantz are equally great- and unbelievably mature and responsible given their ages!! I simply cannot say enough good things about Flying Tiger Martial Arts and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an uplifting positive environment for their children or themselves.

I enrolled my son in 2011 I knew that Martial Arts would be the program to build his ego and take away his shyness. I have always enjoyed studying the different forms of Martial Arts. After my sons first day at Flying Tiger I knew we would be there for the black belt program Master Seo is a wonderful , patience, stern, comical, and knowledgeable instructor along with the other masters. I decided after a few months and watching my son in class that I too would join. I have loved every minute of instruction and my son has grown more responsible with his teachings in Taekwondo. I highly recommend Flying Tiger Martial Arts for adults and children The training will give you a great workout for the mind, body and soul.

Our son has been attending Flying Tiger for a little over two years and the transformation in him has been beyond anything we imagined. The instructors genuinely care about all of the students and work hard to make sure they not only learn the skills needed to advance to the next level, but also ensure they have fun while doing it.Thank you, Flying Tiger, for all you ahve done!

My son has been attending TKD classes at Flying Tiger since August of 2011. After visiting many martial arts studios, we chose Flying Tiger because of the personal attention he would receive, Master Seos (along with the other instructors) experience and knowledge, the interwoven life skills, the potential increase in self-confidence, and the fun factor. My son was 9 when he started and we wanted him to enjoy attending classes, but also take in the discipline and character that are integrated in the classes. We have not been disappointed! There are plenty of classes to choose from during the week to fit anyones schedule. The atmosphere is always positive and upbeat and my son has made good friends in his classes. We highly recommend Flying Tiger Martial Arts.

Jeff, there is much for you to learn about martial arts. The techniques and physical skills are just one part of what it means to become a martial artist. There are many life skills including discipline, commitment, camaraderie, focus, determination, respect and more that a martial artist is to develop in their training. Learning in a mixed environment with people of all ages, sizes, physical capabilities and skill levels is important not only in developing physical skills but in growing black belt life skills. Even as a student, you instruct as well as learn, you inspire as well as are motivated, you give as well as receive. An additional benefit of such training is that families can learn martial arts together. There are very few sports that males and females from 7 to 70 can participate in together. Physical skills may peak in the 20’s and 30’s, but martial arts skills are not bound by age.If you strictly want to focus on fighting skills, I submit that is a shortsighted approach. The likelihood of needing to apply fighting skills in one’s life is rather low whereas black belt life skills are important every waking moment of every day and in every relationship.Regarding Flying Tiger specifically, Head Instructor Master Seo is a master in three martial arts and has earned 15 black belts. I’ve been in martial arts for more than 12 years and have 7 black belts. I have trained with dozens of masters in a half dozen martial arts and I don’t know of a more complete martial arts Master than Master Seo. He freely, enthusiastically and effectively shares his martial arts wisdom in every class. The Flying Tiger instructors each trained for five years under Master Seo, have learned much from him and happily pass it along to the students. (One of those instructors, Eric, is my son. He earned 9 black belts in three martial arts by the time he was 18. He could instruct at any school in the area—and has been asked by other Masters to help at their schools—but he chooses to instruct with Master Seo.) As a Master, I have judged belt testing at Flying Tiger and have always been impressed with the skill level—physical and life skills—of the students. If you want to train in martial arts in a physically challenging manner from the first class, the Hapkido classes at Flying Tiger consist only of teens and adults and are especially demanding.Lisa, based on your comments, all of which are negative—about Flying Tiger, Food Lion, the NC Museum of Art, and Johnston Community College Lib—you seem to be a person not especially happy in life. As a mother with two children, it is important to have and model a strong sense of self which includes a positive outlook. One’s self-esteem and self-love can be strengthened through training in martial arts and you won’t find a better place or staff for such training than Flying Tiger. Train with your children and you will see enormous benefits for them and you. As to “new instructors keep popping up”, this is actually a valuable benefit offered at Flying Tiger. Many area black belts have trained under Master Seo and are interested in further training with him and giving back through helping in classes. Students gain by working with other experienced martial artists, each of whom brings a different personality, perspective and approach. Training in that way enables you to gain new insights in techniques you thought you knew. Even if you hear the same thing but said by a person you hadn’t heard say it before, it reinforces what is being learned in ways that simple repetition does not.The two “Poor to fair” reviews were from people who are inexperienced and don’t understand martial arts and what it means to train in it. Rhonda, after being associated with Flying Tiger through her son’s training for two years, knows of what she speaks; as do I. We both rate the school as Excellent. Training at Flying Tiger under Master Seo and his staff is an outstanding opportunity for personal growth.

My son has been a student at Flying Tiger Martial Arts for almost two years and we couldnt be happier! The negative review is unwarranted and untrue. 1. The Master is at the facility teaching 99% of the time. There are other instructors, one is a 4th Dan Master Black Belt and the other is a 3rd Degree Dan, working on their Master Belt. Apparently the previous reviewer doesn’t understand what it takes to receive a Dan or Master status in Tae Kwon Do. To say the instructors are not disciplined is someone who is ignorant regarding the art of Tae Kwon Do. Yes, there are guest instructors who are Masters, but all are there to teach and help the students. 2. Belts are not given, they are earned. I can tell you my son has EARNED every belt he has. He knows and can demonstrate the forms and technique for each belt prior to his current rank, for which he is working. My son is one of the 7 year olds mentioned. Yes, he is the high belt class because he has earned his right to be there. Yes, there are older kids and adults in the class, but anyone who knows ANYTHING about Tae Kwon Do, knows classes are taught via belt rank, NOT AGE. 3. Belts are not awarded to everyone at every testing. Belts are earned. A student must earn their stripes in order to qualify to test. Stripes are only given when students know the Poomsae, the self defense and the terminology for each belt rank. They dont know them; they dont receive the stripes and won’t test until they do. Testing is judged and if a student does not perform at the highest level they will not get their belt. I hardly think that sounds like the belts are “given”. Lastly, Flying Tiger has been open since 2010 and everyone who works there is wonderful, kind and caring. The Master’s credentials are amazing and he shares his knowledge, experience and lessons with his students. He truly cares about his students, their parents, and teaching the art of Tae Kwon Do. All the students and their families have great love and respect for Master Seo and rightfully so. If the previous reviewer didn’t feel that I feel sorry for her, because Flying Tiger Martial Arts is a great place to learn Tae Kwon Do. I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a dojang to learn Tae Kwon Do from a true Master of the art.
