This academy made sure i got the knowledge to obtain my Class A CDL on my first try. I was nervous at first but once I got to the yard, my doubts were put in my back pocket & sat on. Everyone was helpful & their only objective was to make sure i walked away with my CDL. Dont wait to start/change your career. Driving Academy 160/Gary welcomes all first timers & students that need a refresher. Good Luck!!

I want to first and foremost say that I cannot speak on 160 Driving Academy as a whole but this institution particularly is great. Due to it being a majority minority school they are very forthcoming and understanding with students and their personal lives.I want to give a special shout out to the instructors on the yardDerek, darryl, darnell, walter and the other guy moses. They were dedicated, and cared about the success of their students even to the point that some students that were supposed to be gone stayed WAYYY past the time that they were supposed to be gone, due to the small class sizes and instructors courtesy. Whether you self pay or receive a grant/ sponsorship, if you come daily and show that your there to learn and that your dedicated, they will make sure that you pass. If you follow the instructions you will pass! And dont forget to REV when you downshift!

Im not going to fill this review with emotional diatribe about my experience at 160, Im going to simply state facts about my experience. Take my review and use it as you like.Fact: you can get started next Monday if you like.Fact: for a self pay student they offered the cheapest price around and every expense is covered in tuition.Fact: they completely prep you for your permit, everything is covered.Fact: The classroom portion is via a television at the school and begins at 8am, however the office manager arrives at 10 to 15 min after 8 every day and I missed the beginning of the video every day I was there.Fact: I was given wrong information when I went to get my permit and had to go twice because I needed my medical form to get my permit.Fact: The school takes in as many new students as they can each week, there are 4 trucks at the yard and two instructors, my second week at the yard 8 new students came in, there were about 18 students at the yard at that point. Third week another 8 students began and hours at the yard were cut in half to accommodate all the students, now at about 23 to 24.Fact: I was given time in the truck every day, there were several days when I was only able to get about 20 minutes in the truck total for the day. In an 8 hour day on average at the yard I was in the truck for about 45 min and in class for about 30 minutes. The other time was watching others or just waiting.Fact: I was able to finish in the 160 hour time frame.Fact: The program is designed to get you to pass the state test only, there is no time to teach coupling or docking maneuvers.Fact: The instructors came in extra time to help students and showed true appreciation when students passed the test.Fact: some students struggled and needed more time and instruction, this caused a chain reaction where time became limited in trucks to practice.Fact: I passed my test first try.My opinion: I was able to get my CDL fast and pretty cheap relatively speaking. The yard instructors care and that saved me in the end. Overall however, the system needs to improve and limits on the amount of new students should be put in place.

I called and a man answered by the name of Christopher. I couldnt understand him, so I asked him to repeat his name. He spoke with an attitude as if I bothered him. I wouldnt recommend this location for the lack of communication.
