We had our annual company outing here last week. Seven of us had an amazing cooking class with Chef Robin. We learned some knife skills and everyone got to participate in preparing the menu. The most delicious part of our menu was the Apple Cake! Of course, some of us shopped in the store using our 10% discount. Service was excellent. I would recommend Marcels to anyone looking for this type of experience.

Such a fun experience! We went to class that included demonstration, hands on work and eating our creation! Drinks were included! We learned valuable cooking skills and learned new pairings! They send you home with the recipes and your apron. Can not wait to go back again! Would rate 10 stars if that was an option, great experience for the cost.

This was my second time and it was AMAZING! Our Chef on both occasions was Robin. She made the class fun, exciting, informative, delicious, and again FUN. Everything from the salad to dessert was laid out so easily that I will be making everything at home. Robin gave us tips and a lot of excellent tips that make cooking easy. We have already made our reservations for our next class. For a great night out come to Marcels for a cooking class and leave very content and ready to make everything made at home and make it look easy to your friends.

I held my team event here and it was a tremendous success. This was a group of 19 and we broke it up into 3 teams to cook the menu. Everything was perfect and Kiley Fields was the perfect head chef to match this groups personalities. I couldnt have asked for anything more. SO MUCH FUN!!

Marcel’s is a delightful place for an office party. On a Friday evening in December, we were warmly greeted by executive chef instructor Kelly Sears and her assistants, who offered us our choice of wine. The professional-grade kitchen occupies a back corner of a lovely shop specializing in high-quality cookware and dinnerware. Each place at the table was set with ingredients for a Christmas dinner—harvest salad; seared tri-tip steak with caramelized onion and shallot confit; browned butter pecan rice with roasted beets, cranberries, and toasted pecans; and chocolate porter cake topped with warm caramel sauce. After demonstrations from Chef Kelly, each guest prepared the ingredients of his or her choice. Some guests may have been more skillful than others, but everyone enjoyed lively conversation and a delicious dinner. A great event where guests relax, interact, and take part in the fun!

I recently have attended two of the cooking classes, both by Chef Kelly Sears. I have one word -fabulous. The classes are informative, very fun and relaxing to be part of. I attended one with my sister and daughter, the other with a good friend. Both times we came out with tips and recipes and over a great experience. I would highly recommend this as a fun activity.

WOW!!! This truly is an EXPERIENCE! Our Dining Out Group (11 people) experienced Chef Kelly & her fabulous staff in action last Saturday evening! We prepped, cooked, then ate a fantastic five-course meal! Specific, hands-on class; very knowledgeable staff; fresh, great quality ingredients - I never felt like Marcels skimped on anything! Beer & wine served throughout the evening (glad we had a taxi service on hand!!) Everyone participated, all being a part of the lessons/work, and then all enjoyed the sit-down plated service. The night could not have been nicer! I highly recommend Marcels Culinary Experience!! (They also have a wonderful store! Great for food items, kitchen gadgets & cookware, and gifts!) Right in downtown Glen Ellyn, north of the tracks.

Recently attended a cooking school session on Ribs & Rubs that I found to be both entertaining, informative with damn good food to boot. Kudos to all the good people that work so hard (with a great deal of success for the most part) on all the different cooking classes that Marcels sponsors.

I surprised my husband last night (for his birthday) by signing both of us up to take the Soups and Stews class with Chef Kelly Sears. We had a blast!!! We had so much fun with the other 6 people at our work area and the food was DELICIOUS!!! We made 2 soups and 3 stews and we learned a lot of little cooking tips. Kelly made it so much fun...even when we accidentally combined the wrong ingredients (they shouldnt serve wine and let you talk...lol!!) with the wrong recipe! She just rolled with the flow and never made us feel like we did anything wrong. As she pointed out, thats the beauty of cooking and making it your own dish, even if it was unintentional :) There were 3 other ladies who cleaned up our work area, served the food, refilled your wine or water glass and tended to anything you might need. We were offered 10% off any purchases we made in the store that night and, as per another review, were not made to feel bad that we didnt make a purchase over $100. I cannot rave enough about the fun we had, the quality of the food and ingredients or the people who worked there. We cant wait to take another class!! See you soon!

I have taken more than 20 classes at Marcels since they opened 2 years ago and they are fantastic! Whether you are an experienced cook or a novice, you take away great tips, recipes and a belly full of the fabulous meal prepared in class. Next time you are going to meet friends for dinner, sign up for a class at Marcels instead.

Marcels is a true treasure. We have been shopping and attending culinary classes at Marcels for about 15 months now, and it just keeps getting better all the time. As regards the retail goods side, Marcels offers an extensive inventory of serving wares (linens, tableware, bowls, glassware, and the like)--my wife likes this side of Marcels the best (shes a hostess type, not a cook). Marcels also offers a range of consumable ingredients (oils, salts, mixes, etc.). Jill (the owner) and her staff have composed a wide range of high-quality, effective utensils and tools--from measuring cups to unique whisks to a ricer that outperforms any other that I have ever owned. Finally, they also offer a wide range of high-quality, name-brand cookware—All-Clad, Swiss Diamond, Emile Henry, USA Pans, and more. The prices are competitive at Marcels. Yes, you might be able to buy a particular item for a couple of dollars less on line, but Marcels has rejuvenated my appreciation for the brick and mortar experience. For example, I would have never looked at Swiss Diamond cookware if the staff at Marcels was not—from personal experience—so enthusiastic about it. Now, its the only brand I purchase for non-stick applications. The staff is experienced (many spent years at Williams Sonoma), unfailingly polite, and very customer-service oriented. And then theres the culinary education side of Marcels—my favorite. We have attended many classes, and I can hardly wait for the next one (were already signed up for seven upcoming courses in the remainder of the first quarter). The chefs are true professionals. They really take ownership of what theyre delivering in the classes. They are without exception dedicated to making sure that you both learn and enjoy the class experience. Their objective seems to be demonstrating both skills and knowledge within a context of personally chosen recipes focused on a particular theme (check out the on-line calendar). I have learned so much from my attendance at these classes—both hands on and demonstration only. The classes have all been most enjoyable experiences. The chefs are tolerant of all levels of skills that you might bring to the class, from absolute beginner to advanced home cook, and they take any and all questions. To underscore just how good the classes are, my wife once took a class at a well-known, nationwide retail cookwares store. The instructor at that class opened with, “Well, these recipes all came from corporate, and I confess that Ive never actually cooked them....” Understand that that could never, would never happen in a culinary class at Marcels.I could go on and on, but I think by now you understand how highly I regard this establishment.

I attended a mid-day class yesterday at Marcels called Better than Drive-Thru Lunches given by Linda Dugan. It was delightful! Linda was informative and professional but still likable and sweet. I was with 6 other nice women and we learned a lot and had very yummy, fresh food. The class was just long enough (12:30-2:00) and I enjoyed every minute. In addition, we all were given 10% off any purchases and a punch on a punch card that gives us credit towards working for a free class! Please dont listen to the nay-sayers in the reviews. This store is anything but rude or unprofessional. The employees and owners are unfailingly attentive and cheery.Go visit today--you wont be disappointed!
