This school has gone down hill drastically in the last 5 yrs. they used to have a great reading specialist / literacy coach but claim they cannot afford it anymore They also used to have a great district counselor (not individual school but district), but he resigned at the end of last year. ... I guess “20 by 20” didn’t really include specialty teachers and counselors like they told everyone? The biggest part of the problem starts at the top with the principal Dave Bogart. Dave used to go above and beyond in all areas, but over the last several years just seems not care as much.... to the point of being arrogant or even rude to the concerned parents. They are unprepared in many areas and communication is horrible. I had to take my complaints (several) to the superintendent to get their attention. Finally the teachers respond to my emails in a timely manner instead of ignoring them all together. Although there are a few good teachers here I’ve chosen to move both of my children to other schools...... and I live and bought a house right across the street from this school. That in itself speaks volumes!

All three of our boys have had an amazing experience at this school. Their teachers this year have been amazing. I feel that the school administrators have a great relationship with each other, the teachers and the parents.I dont really think you can fault the school for having bad lunches, as that is a district decision. I do think that the lunches are lacking, however, I believe this is a national flaw, not an individual school flaw. I send my boys with their own lunches, so its not an issue for us.

Only issue I have with the school is that they do not have a good program to deal with children with learning disabilities. There response is we dont have time and resources to deal with your childs behavior. Coming from a school that was very supportive to Westar has been very frustrating and leaves you feeling hopeless.
