My son have been attending this school for about 7months now. When he first started it was confusing (maybe due to his dyslexia).. Any who, after maybe two weeks he started to come home talking about how he loves his new school because it’s a little challenging than his last. πŸ—£best choice ever, he disliked school since kindergarten 😩. My son is an A B Honor Roll Student & loves this school. The teachers are so freaking awesome, the counselors, social worker, front office staff, principal, assistant principal & etc has been nothing but spectacular to us. I could go on & on☺️. Thanks to this special village for treating my child as if it was their very no own. NO GOOD DEED GOES UNNOTICED YMLA! Because of you all he now wants to one day attend college.. Again, THANK YOU‼️

Pretty good school, teachers are really nice they give a lot of chances if you don’t turn in your work don’t trust the other people that have put bad comments about this school the John F. Kennedy school has changed a lot and I mean A LOT!! Since the last few years right now I’m going to 8th grade and I’m ready to start the year. I totally recommend putting your child in this school they prepare your child for a better education they prepare your child for high school, college, and even university!!!!! Also it’s a boy school now yeah the Kennedy school split into two schools one is for boys and the other one which is in another part of Grand Prairie is for girls they did this for a reason to not let both of the genders to be distracted by the other gender and it actually worked the school is way better now since the opposite sex have been moved I have also heard the principal from the girl school say they feel the same way.

Have not heard great things about this place. Lots of fights and when you defend yourself you also become a victim of the system. You can’t defend yourself without fear of reprisal yet if you don’t defend yourself you get bullied constantly. The administration needs to do a better job ensuring the safety of their students and hold those accountable who continue to cause problems.

This school is the best because the teachers here care about their students. The people who work here are really god at their jobs and that is it.

After 14 years I’ve never been in a more horrible school I’ve been in this school for 3 years and I’ve never been subjected to such imaginable horror. The principal is way too strict and does nothing about bullies Ive seen too many people being bullied the dress code is absolutely ridiculous Im surprised they even lasted so long if If I had children I would never send my kids here

I was at this school for a year in my 6th grade only school i really was in ISS for one time this kid said he has a .44 or a glock or something in his backpack and said he was going to bust my head open now i am and can be a very respectful young man i do not like fights s i avoided it the teacher overheard the conversation and sent another kid and the bully (plsu me) to the office i explained myself and the VC (vice principle) understood but said he can do anything about it after the referral was submitted and i ended up with at best 3-4 days in ISS i have been in ISS for a couple of fights only for self defense but you become the victim in the punishment i hate that

So far, this school has been a pretty good experience for me. Almost all the teachers are really nice. I don’t really mind the dress code to be honest, but lots of others do and I can understand that. Lots of people talk trash about Mr. Melms, but he’s probably been one of the best principals I’ve had. I love the idea of the houses; Alpha (Ξ‘) Beta (B) Kappa (K) and Delta (Ξ”). This is a school with no girls, which is a weird experience, but it keeps students concentrated on school rather than staring at girls. Lol. I don’t really know the punishment they have for being out of dress code, but I don’t think it’s very fun. Ive never been out of dress code, and I don’t plan on it. The only problem I have with this school is that there is lots of bullies and trash-talkers, and there are lots of fights. I’m not mad at the school for this though, because I can tell they’re trying their best to stop it. Instead of iss (In school suspension), they have this thing called chi schedule. According to Mr. Melms, iss prevents students from learning and puts them behind in academics, so they use chi schedule, which changes their schedule from their regular schedule, and at the end of the day, they have this thing where they discuss what the student(s) is doing wrong. I think students on chi have to wear ties, but I’m not sure. I would recommend this school to anyone, it’s great.

Ok first all this school is full of filth. They only keep it clean when inspectors come. The teachers are blind and despite being academically smart; they lack common sense. When a student gets in trouble for simply trying to sharpen a pencil;is idiotic. Theres teachers thatll call out students for being out of dress code ; but yet their students in their class are out of dress code. Now the dress code. This would have to be the most idiotic dress code in history of Texas. I can live with the fact that the students cant wear hoodies;but then theres the fact that all the pants you can wear are black slacks. Literally in every school you can wear khaki pants. And you cant wear shoes that arent black or dark brown. Every school that I know of lets you have white shoes. This school has been the worst school

I’ll start by saying, I was a long term sub at YMLA last school year (2017-2018) and I was welcomed by the administration every single day.. Melms is going to have this school on the right track soon. Too many parents complain on here well here’s my two cents.... The administration really does care about these boys, if they didn’t would they give them 10s of chances.. I will say I truly enjoy being around those boys at that school but the disrespect from them towards other staff is unreal, you parents always think someone has it out for your kid when in reality they really don’t.. teach y’all kids some manners, discipline them (Get that belt) otherwise you have nothing to complain about. It starts at home, you can’t expect the administration and teachers to raise and discipline your kids. I won’t be subbing much there this school year because I am going to use my Masters degree and flip into another career field but anytime I’m free I will always be at Kennedy trying to be a mentor and groom these boys because lord knows you parents aren’t doing a thing but complaining.... if you have a problem with how things are ran at YMLA come up to the school, get involved.. otherwise shut the hell up and continue dropping your kids off at school like it’s daycare... because at the end of the day it’s on y’all parents to raise your kids right and make sure they are respecting adults... and as for the racist towards white kids... please stop it with all of that.. again, the doors are always open at Kennedy.. go voice your frustrations in person and not online... keep up the good work YMLA staff I know y’all are doing all y’all can for these boys!!!
