I’ve got to say that sailing with Captain Jim at North Star Sailing Charters was the highlight of our week on the Gulf coast! My wife and I took the 2 ½ hour Sunset Charter that almost didn’t happen due to a stormy forecast. I remember thinking that it would be no big deal if we couldn’t go and we would save some money. Man, am I glad it cleared up! And it was well worth the money! Well, kinda sorta…I now have the sailing bug, which may lead to more cash flow in the future. Captain Jim was the perfect host and did everything to make our trip memorable! We had a blast. I want to do the 4 hour trip now!

Captain Jim is a man of knowledge - of the area and of sailing! Highly recommend taking sail with him! My teenage kids even enjoyed it and I quote it was way more fun than we thought it would be. Great views and so relaxing! We will definitely take another sail (thinking a sunset one next time) with North Star Sailing Charters and Captain Jim! My family thoroughly enjoyed sailing with Jim. Even though the wind was basically non-existent, we were able to cruise around and enjoy the water and a visit from some dolphins. I will definitely be looking for excuses to book future trips!

Awesome sail! First time me and the wife had ever been on a sail boat. Our trip was rescheduled 3 times due to weather but we finally overcome weather and made it out. Capt Jim was very knowledgeable and easy to work with. Definitely recommend him!

Our family enjoyed an exceptional sunset voyage aboard the Kashmir. Jim had our 9 y/o comfortable at the helm in no time, and even the 12 y/o remarked how awesome the trip was. We were lucky enough to observe several large vessels coming and going, as well as multiple dolphins! The cherries on top included a beautiful rainbow and an exquisite sunset! Jim was an absolute pleasure and I’m certain we will cherish these memories for a lifetime!

ASA 101 Basic Keelboat Sailing was such an Awesome experience.  I never knew this was on my bucket list!  Learning how to sail has been a wonderful experience from start to ongoing. My brother and I thoroughly enjoyed our 4 hour sailing trip with Jim the Owner/Operator of North Star Sailing Charters! It was so peaceful and relaxing on the water. Sailing out of the harbor, Jim briefed us on the impact of Hurricane Katrina to the Gulfport Marina and the rebuilding of it. Jim also gave other interesting facts of the area. But I will leave that for you to hear on your charter! My brother took the helm, which made his summer......year! We saw pelicans, dolphins, red fish feeding off minnows, and cranes, My brother and Jim talked a lot about sailing. I relaxed mostly and enjoyed the cold sodas that Jim provided! And the sailboat is amazing! Very comfortable and nicely equipped.

We celebrated our 15 year wedding anniversary by booking the North Star Sailing Charters Sunset Cruise ans it was A-Mazing! We had never been on a sail boat and the experience did not disappoint. Captain Jim was a wonderful host. We enjoyed his company, stories, and learning about the history of the area. Most of all, my husband and I enjoyed a romantic evening on the gulf, watching the sun go down, all on a beautiful sail boat.

I booked a six hour cruise with Captain Jim and was not disappointed. We were immediately welcomed and briefed on safety and features of the boat. While motoring out of the marina Captain Jim gave us some local history on the Gulfport Marina, the lighthouse and other sights. Kashmir is a 40 ft Catalina, shes beautiful with graceful lines. Plenty of room for the four passengers, the weather was perfect and we sailed out to the local islands before turningabout and heading in under the red, white and blue spinnaker. Dolphins, shrimp boats and pelicans made their appearances, and the water got prettier farther out. This is a perfect family or couples retreat, Capt. Jim will put you at the helm and let you rig the sails if you like, or you can just sit, sip a beverage and enjoy the view. I will do this again.. Five stars!!!

We had a great day sailing and learning from Jim. From the time we started our day Jim began his instruction. After a safety walk around of the boat Jim put us behind the wheel and began teaching before we left the dock. We were blessed with a beautiful day for sailing. Jam made sure that every aspect of our course was covered and that we all had a turn in different situations on the boat. We are looking forward to our next trip with North Star sailing.

We had so much fun sailing with Captain Jim - it was the highlight of our vacation. We have two small girls (3 and 5) and he was so patient with both of them. Our oldest is nonstop movement and chatter and our youngest is shy and quiet. He had both girls enthusiastically searching for dolphins in no time. And we saw several! I can’t say enough about the great time I had during my sunset cruise. I was visiting the area while on my honeymoon and wanted to try something different. Jim made the arrangements process super easy from start to finish. He keeps in touch even after the cruise. I was very impressed with his knowledge of the area and even learned a few things. We did the sunset cruise, and it was super relaxing and peaceful. As a native of the MS Gulf Coast, I learned things from Jim about the area that I had not known previously. This is a great way to take in the Gulf Coast and I would definitely do it again. Highly recommended!

It was a wonderful afternoon sailing with Captain Jim and North Star sailing charters. I have sailed many times before, but not in the last six years. I called North Star Sailing charters just too see if I could book a sail too get me back up to speed, I am restoring a old sailboat and want to get my skills back before I finish her, so I will feel comfortable a confidant sailing solo.Captain Jim suggested I sail with him to see where Im at skill wise, he was very friendly, funny great sense ofhumour, we shoved off and he gave me the helm... I havent sailed in quit awhile and was just a little nervous to say the least, but he put me at ease and we had a great afternoon of sailing! I am interested in booking all the sailing courses now! He even offered to sail with me on my Cutter when the restoration is complete! Captain Jim is a complete professional, I must say he made my day ...his 37 footer is just beautiful with all the bell and whistles!I wish we had a little more wind, but you cant control mother nature! The day was perfect, with pleasant weather, with lots of beautiful dolphins and a amazing sunset! I took the ASA101 Basic Keelboat Sailing Course with North Star Sailing Charters, LLC this week. Captain Jim knows his stuff and did a great job reviewing and challenging me as we sailed Kashmir on the Mississippi Sound! s.v. Kashmir, which is North Stars 40 Catalina, is a great sailing boat and fun to handle. The cabin of Kashmir is air conditioned, clean and ship shape making a pleasant atmosphere to take the written test.Ill definitely consider taking my 103,104 & 105 with Captain Jim King!

We booked a sunset charter. It was windy and cloudy, even though we couldnt see the sunset, Captain Jim tried his best to make the trip entertaining. One really great thing was that he let some of us help with the sails and the steering. Captain Jim was very kind. I would wholeheartedly recommend North Star sailing to anyone whos looking for a fun sailboat ride.

GREAT EXPERIENCE!!We booked for a sunset sailing with Jim on the 4th of July and the whole experience was really great. It was the first time sailing for all three of us and Jim was of a great assistance making sure we were well settles. He was an excellent guide and we learned about the history of the area plus some interesting facts.We were even able to watch the fireworks at a convenient spot on the dock all thanks to him. Sailing with North Star Charters was a wonderful experience. Jim operates a very professional charter surely as a result of his experience as a pilot for the US Air Force and his years of studying sailing. As we were heading back to harbor after sailing out to Cat (actually raccoon) Island in the Mississippi Sound of the Gulf of Mexico we had a little excitement from heading into the 18 mph wind. The boat tilted up to 25 degrees, but I felt completely safe in Jim’s capable hands. I highly recommend the 4 hour charter for a special celebration like anniversary or a graduation gift.

Let me start my review with a big Wow!! My girlfriend and I love the water but had never sailed. We decided to try a sunset sail because the sunsets on the coast this time of year are amazing.We found North Star online and decided on the 4 hour cruise. Captain Jim had to do a little detective work to figure out how to contact me because I put the wrong email address on my contact form. He reached out to me via messenger and gave me all of the necessary details for the charter.His communication by phone, text and email was excellent. Jim followed up before the charter with detailed instructions, directions and a map. He followed up after the charter with a personal message and pics he took on the charter.We arrived right on time for the charter and boarded the beautiful sailboat. Captain Jim was warm and friendly and shared a wealth of knowledge with us.The afternoon and evening were magical. The weather was great, the sunset was just beautiful! Completed my American Sailing Association (ASA) 101, 103 and 104 sailing courses with Jim. Couldnt ask for a better charter! We came to visit New Orleans, decided to explore outside of the city, this was definitely the highlight of our entire trip! Jim is a great Captin, excellent company, very knowledgeable, and not to mention, a great photographer! He will also provide you with high resolution photos of your party, the breathtaking view, and sunset. We also spotted dolphins, oh man, what a wonderful experience! Highly recommend.

I have taken a sunset cruise and sailing lessons from Captain Jim and I thoroughly enjoyed them both! His sailboat is very comfortable and he is a good sailor and storyteller. Watching the sun set over the water while the dolphins were swimming along with us was unforgettable! After my lessons, Im more excited than ever to continue sailing.

Jim did an amazing job both as our captain and accommodating me and my parents this weekend!My parents were visiting from Baltimore. Initially, we were doing the Dinner Charter to include Half Shell Oyster House cuisine the day they flew in! Unfortunately, they had a snow storm and we had to reschedule. Nevertheless, Jim was able to get us in Sunday evening! No time for the food prep--but were welcomed to bring our own food and adult beverages! Jim supplied us with water, soda, tea and North Star Sailing beer coozies! So we grabbed sandwiches and beverages and were on our way!Jim shared with us great stories and information about the area to include the Mississippi Sound, Jones park, the hurricanes and the wild life.Jim is retired military and we are a military family (like most in the area). So we were able to connect and talk more about navy, boats, sea topics, as well as learn more about the area and sail boating. All while watching pelicans prospect and dive for food, as well as, groups of dolphins swimming in to say hi! The weather stayed clear and the sunset was gorgeous!Jim even let us try out being captain and steering the boat a.k.a. Kashmir(Ask him about the name)!The boat had a working bathroom and anything we needed on board for our 2.5 hour trip!Good price! Great company! Definitely recommend!I may try out his ASA certified sailing lessons next!
