A few years back, our homeschool group did a field trip to Red Dragon. The kids got to try out king fu and see demos. The instructor singled out my 7-year-old to humiliate. My child was a bit awkward back then. He was going through an awkward stage and was an easy target, I suppose. When everyone else zigged, he zagged. He was also very sensitive. And he’s never done martial arts before. He was there to try it out and have fun. The instructor yelled at him for every wrong move he made, if he stood up to soon, if he stepped off the map, if he didn’t hear an instruction and act on it immediately. It was crushing. I was uncomfortable watching it. Other parents were looking at me sympathetically, for they were also uncomfortable. None of us took the opportunity to sign up for regular classes at a discount that day. I left, trembling, so eager to get my son out of there. I wish I’d pulled him out before the class was over. I wish I’d stood up to the instructor and told him to stop picking on my child so relentlessly. But I was very pregnant at the time and just wanted to go. I forgot to write a review of the place at the time. Today a Facebook memory popped up and I saw the multi-colored mats and my son’s face, how hard he was trying and his hurt he was, snd I felt compelled to finally write a review—better late than never. Definitely don’t bring your child to this dojo if you want them to be treated with dignity.

Sensei Chris is fantastic. We have 2 kids in his King Fu/self defense class and they have improved so much from when they started its incredible. The way he works with and teaches the kids keeps them engaged and having fun the entire time. It was a great decision to start going to Red Dragon Dojo and if you are considering it you should certainly give it a try.

Living in a city like New Orleans, you have to appreciate a martial arts dojo that teaches street applicable self defense. Sensei Chris dedication and ability to work with children of all ages and learning abilities is unparalleled.
