My daughter was an honor all student and she’s very bright but enrolling her to this school was a big mistake! I don’t know if it’s just their ways online or it’s just teachers personality. My daughter had anxiety ever since she got into hmsa. She was complaining about her math teacher was being mean and embarrassed students! I think it’s very unprofessional manner to teach that way. Specially they are transitioning to high school she was in 9th grade.I transfer her to lawndale high and she is so much happier. Teachers are very nice they also have an academy so it’s a good option.

When I started going to HMSA I was on my second year of learning English. Even though I struggled a lot, I strongly believe this high school prepared me for college. Yes, some teachers are strict and expect a lot from you, but it helps in the long run. They try to teach you how to become responsible. I agree my GPA wasnt the best compared to my friends who went to Leuzinger, Hawthorne, or Lawndale, but when I started college I found it so much easier to adapt. I knew how to write college level essays and was very used to studying rigulously. I understand this school might not be for everyone, but if you work well under pressure, and your goal is to go to college this is the place to go. I never thought I was going to be able to go to a UC while I was still learning English. This school helped me get there, but its also what you make of it.

My son is a freshman in this school and so far it has been a huge regret signing him up at this school. They have some of the most ridiculous policies I have ever seen. If you want them calling you for every little thing like the wrong calculator or wrong paper, then this is the school for you. Plz do your research before you sign your kids to this school. They don’t tell you everything in their sign up meetings. For example, they don’t tell you that your kids are not allowed to play with each other. This school gives itself to much credit for something they are not.

Very rigorous, best teachers you could ever ask for, but destroys your GPA. Ive always been a good student when I was young and a goodie-two shoes. But when High school came in and attended to this school-- I was doing awesome in year 1 and 4 only. Year 2 and 3 was difficult and depressing. A lot of students were geniuses and have good work ethic. I even suffered from a reoccurring insomnia from middle school (but I passed with As) however, it reoccurred due to intense stress and endless nights of staying up. I wasnt the type of student to procrastinate or do my work last minute because thats self-sabotage. I would say Block Scheduled classes are the only things thats saving the sanity.

I am an HMSA alumni. The school did well in preparing their students for college but completely ruined their GPAs which then results in many brilliant students not getting into universities they strive to get to. On the other hand, you have less intelligent students getting into those universities because its way easier to get better GPAs at other schools. I got a 3.0 GPA at HMSA which is the minimum for UC univerties. However, I was declined to most UCs. Now that Im at college, Im acing every class I get. If you have an outstanding worth ethic then go to this school. You will get depressed and stressed with all the work and their strict rules. You get at least three hours of homework every day without AP classes. If you want to get into a top tier schools such as UCLA, you have a higher chance going to Hawthorne High, Lawndale, etc and getting a great and easier GPA there.

I believe that Lawndale High School is better than HMSA because they have more programs more options and the school has more confidence in their students

This place is not as great as they talk themselves up to be. The students are arrogant and act as if they are better/smarter than any regular high school kid since the teachers feed them this rhetoric from the start. Academically they are awesome and have awards to prove it but their attitude reeks of arrogance and most of the teachers have a superiority complex. Mrs. B from the science department proved it when she nearly ran me over and argued about it (very disrespectful of her). The school also doesnt seem to care about the mental health or emotional well being of its students since many of my peers were taking phsyc meds and drugs to get through the days.So many issues at this school that they dont tell you about.
