First Defense Krav Maga is hands down five star! Their instruction is top notch. They’ll meet you at whatever level you are - from a complete beginner to expert - they accommodate and you’ll be better for it. As an extra bonus, they are extremely welcoming and make it fun too. All class ages and they have recently added a great class for people with injuries and/or who need less intensity. It is a second home and I’m lucky to have this great school nearby.

Outstanding facility. I have been absent from training for a while but I started my Krav-Maga journey 10 years ago. Nick is a very thoughtful, intelligent, and respectful instructor. He accepts you as you are and supports you in whatever you want to accomplish. Ann is always supportive and makes everyone feel welcome. Paul, Chris, Sam, and Pete have all risen through the ranks not only are they skilled they are good people as well. There are more great instructor there but there are too many to list.In summary if youre interested in being part of a family focused on improving fitness, confidence, and the ability to defend yourself, First Defense is a great place to go.

I have been training at First Defense Krav Maga since 2014. My experience there has been top notch. When I first started at FDKM I expected I’d learn self-defense and probably get some good exercise. While that’s been the case, I’ve gotten so much more out of my classes there. Besides learning the actual Krav Maga techniques and tactics, my self-confidence, decision making skills, and reflexes have improved tenfold. Nick, a co-owner, who has the patience of a saint, is an amazing instructor and practitioner. He’s great at adapting his instruction to meet individual students’ needs and abilities. FDKM is also extraordinary in how it welcomes and encourages people from all walks of life to learn to defend themselves. Ann (the other co-owner) and Nick offer several levels of classes for very young kids to older adults. There are classes for those who are just beginning, as well as for intermediate, and advanced students. IMHO, there is a place for everyone at First Defense Krav Maga. Love this place!

If you are even mildly considering exploring Krav Maga (or any other self-defense or fitness adventure), look no further and come in to First Defense! You CANNOT beat the 3-class pack to try it out -- you wont find a deal like that anywhere! The membership rates are also amazingly reasonable.I came in with ZERO experience, no athleticism to speak of, and a general nervousness about trying something new like this. Everyone is so great and welcoming, and I quickly got comfortable in what has truly felt like a judgement-free zone.The instructors are phenomenal; everyone has a bit of a different style, theres no way to get bored, and youll pick up on nuances from each of them. Classmates, even those who have been practicing Krav for way longer, are encouraging and helpful. Youll get a great workout, learn practical self-defense, develop confidence and self-assurance, and make friends along the way. The only regret I have is not checking it out sooner!

This is a great school. I have been practicing there for 1+years. The instructors are excellent. It is a very spacious and clean facility. It has a good mix of students. I highly recommend this school.

Nick is an amazing instructor! As first timers toKrav Maga my husband and I were not quite sure what to expect, but Nick’s training methods were easy to learn, fun and effective. He is really great at making the class light and integrating humor, but still getting the concepts across. He’s always willing to help one on one to ensure everyone understands and is using proper technique. If you aren’t sure if Krav Maga is for you, I highly recommend giving it a try with Nick and his studio!

This place is fantastic. After going for several months to First Defense, I have brought both my teenage sons, and now they are members too. That is the highest recommendation I can give. I trust Nick and his whole staff to bring excellent training, safety, and great role modeling.The training is top notch, the staff and other students are welcoming and supportive, and to top it off, they make it fun. My sons love it too. I am grateful that we lucked out to have this of all schools close to our home.

I love this school. The school is family oriented and the instruction is amazing. I am a big guy and have already lost 60lbs. :-) Come in for a trial class.

I LOVE Krav Maga and this training facility. I signed up myself and two kids (teen age girl and 23 year old son) for the foundation classes. Krav Maga is the most interesting and challenging self defense there is. The very patient instructors are amazing and give you all the personal attention you need (I seem to need quite a bit). Be warned- you will sweat profusely and be pushed to your limits. You will wake up the next morning with bruises and aches and you will LOVE EVERY SECOND OF IT. I have been a student at First Defense Krav Maga for over 2 years. I have learned so much in that time. Mr. Nick Masi and his instructors are very good at teaching and keeping it fun. This place is incredible. I feel like its become a second home. Its big enough for lots of learning and opportunity, and small enough to feel like family. Theres no better place in Herndon than FDKM, hands down.

After looking for Krav Maga (self-defense) training -and finding only a handful of places offering it- First Defense stood out from all the rest due to their amazing head instructor and positive student atmosphere. I quickly fell in love with everything Krav Maga and everything about this studio. I walked in looking to protect myself and I found an amazing Krav Maga family and am now on the road to being a fully certified Krav Maga instructor thanks to First Defense. Come in and arm yourself, have fun and get a great work out -but most of all sleep easy knowing you are a true fighter.
