My child has not even gone here and Im disappointed with this school. I applied for my child back in October when the application window opened. I didnt hear anything from the school until the week of the lottery pull. My daughter was given an offer and then I started receiving auto generated emails and calls, which have yet to give me a deadline for responding to the offer. When I was able to reach out to the school, I received a recording saying the line was busy. I left a message on the second call to the school. Then, today, I received an auto generated email asking me to respond to the offer and telling me that, should I have any questions, I would need to wait until after their Spring Break ends on April 12th to reach out. My daughter received another offer for a magnet school that I have to respond to by April 9th, so, unless Phoenix Academy decides to respond to this review or call me back from my message before this date, my child will be attending a different school in August.Edit: I received a call from their enrollment specialist, who provided me with her cell phone number and helped me out with the information I needed. Not only that, but when I called back the next day, she answered her phone after an oral surgery procedure! Needless to say, I have accepted the offer for my child. This review will be edited further once the school year starts.

So far this school has been amazing to us! My daughter is doing really well and Mrs. Huneycutt has been an absolute dream. She really knows how to work with children and her patience is something incredible! I have so much respect for her! With distance learning and my daughters first time in school, I am truly impressed. I was worried that my daughter would have a hard time learning everything at home, and at first it definitely wasn’t something we were used to. But after 6 months, my daughter has learned so much and is doing exceptionally well! I am so proud of her and her teacher! I hope that this school continues to impress us! We will see how things go once she starts doing in school learning!

This review is for the EC department/program. I cannot speak for the school in it’s entirety. The office staff was always welcoming to me and my son, Especially Mrs.Owens.My special needs son attended Phoenix academy for 3 WEEKS. I had always been told the school was a great school for special needs children and my son had been on the waiting list for the better part of a year. He got accepted in the beginning of Sept. The EC coordinator, Ms.Carter and his teachers, Ms.Woody and Ms.Johnson insisted my son start out going only two hours a day and easing his way to a full day since he had been out of school for months due to the Pandemic. For 3 weeks, we were told he was progressing and I wanted to know how long before he could go for longer than two hours. The beginning of the third week, Ms.Carter and Ms.Woody met with me and told me that they felt they did not have the resources to help my son and that after 3 WEEKS, He was not progressing. They felt he would be better back at GCS. I was also told that, since the other children had behavioral problems, they worried about my son’s safety. I was alarmed. No one offered to make adjustments to his IEP, I never heard from the speech or OT therapist. It wasn’t until I kept my son home for a WEEK that Ms.Woody contacted me about possibly making adjustments to his IEP. By then I had re-enrolled my son in GCS. I was so disheartened by the experience. It upset me to have to question of my child was safe during those 3 weeks.

I have truly loved my daughter attending Phoenix Academy! She is in first grade and has been there since kindergarten. I love that the classrooms are not huge, so it allows for my child to get a more one on one learning experience with her teacher. I love that they have uniforms because it makes it so much easier to get her dressed in the morning. Otherwise, she will be searching for an outfit all day, it feels like. I love that Phoenix Academy offers a lot of field trips that relate to what their learning in the classroom. I would definitely recommend Phoenix Academy.

Both my children attend here and my oldest has attended since Kindergarten. The teachers are very nice and help the kids learn in a way that makes sense to them. I have dealt with typical kid issues and they have been resolved quickly and to my agreement. The principals are great and are very responsive to issues. I look forward to continuing their education there.

Both of my children, soon to be three, have been at Phoenix since Kindergarten! We love this school and the teachers there! We had one small issue and it was immediately addressed by the admin staff. They truly care about the well being of the students and will take the appropriate measures needed. They go above and beyond to create a safe and comfortable environment for the children. We have recommended Phoenix to everyone we know!

My children have been at Phoenix Academy since kindergarten. I currently have a 6th grader and 3rd grader. My kids love their school. I find the school being separated into 3 buildings as a positive. Having kindergarten and 1st grade in a building by themselves is an easier transition into big school. My kids have had wonderful teachers and are challenged academically. I am active and involved with the school. I feel parents as well as staff have the responsibility of making a school great.

The K-1 building and its staff are top notch. The classrooms are a bit on the small side but those small spaces hold a lot of heart and educational rigor. The student focus drives the school to push the students to do their best and build a foundation for their future of learning, striving, and reaching for the stars.

My daughter attends Phoenix Academy and she loves it. While she enjoys most trivial things like outside play and centers, she talks about how her tear makes math fun for her. She used to get frustrated while attempting certain math problems , but now she finds joy in figuring out where she’s gone wrong. Phoenix Academy makes learning fun and you can tell that the staff cares for your child. The people in the office are wonderful and great at reassuring you that your child will make it home in one piece, and completely satisfied with their day. I plan on sending all of my children here. Not to mention, their curriculum is ahead of its time. My daughter, 1st grade, is learning what my nieces are, 2nd and 3rd grade.

So far, we have had a great first year at Phoenix! Reading through the reviews it seems like theres a lot of problems that most school systems face these days - budgets, student conflicts and staffing issues. We have been very impressed with what our Ker has been learning and comprehending. There are of course things that we would like to be different or have more of a input with but Im sure we would have requests any where we would go. Same fundraisers and same needs as other schools weve been in. Dont let a handful of bad reviews stop you from looking.

If they have there own problems leave it at home & be teacher at school. If kids injured they need love and care by worlds. Let parents know how that happened I think one star is enough they have to work nicely as a team. Pls dont be Rude to students.

The absolute worst school I’ve ever had to deal with! My son had ADHD so when things get to be too much for him he sometimes shuts down. Well instead of helping him through it this schools response is to just give him OSS. That is not how you handle a child that shuts down. They don’t investigate issues and if you try to talk to them they act like they didn’t do anything wrong. I’ve been thrown out and threatened with the cops many times by Coleman and others. They refuse to hear you out and they don’t care about what really happened. I know this bc they have never asked any questions about what was wrong or why he shut down. I absolutely hate this school! My advise is do not send you child to this school!!!!!

Worked as a new, first time teacher here for a week before myself and several other teachers at the middle school were told that they did not have the budget to pay us. So we were all let go. They really screwed us over. I was trying to get my license through lateral entry and had just signed up for benefits through the school and suddenly all of that was taken away. They let go of good teachers who have worked there for years! They really should have evaluated their budget BEFORE hiring us. They have a lot of angry former employees and parents.

This school is a joke and so is the woman running it. There’s so many unanswered questions as to where the school funds and fundraising money actually go. The teacher turnover rate is horrendous because they aren’t given the tools to succeed in doing their jobs. I could write a book about the mismanagement of students, staff, curriculum and bully issues. RUN far away if you value your child’s future education.

I give it 2 stars, because the teachers my son had in K-2 were amazing. Unfortunately, the majority of the 2nd grade teachers quit at the end of the 2016-2017 school year, and a large number of teachers were let go at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year.

My child was being shown obscene images by bullies in the school and effected my child emotionally to the point she would cry herself to sleep. The administrator, Buddy Coleman, refused to even talk to the other child’s parents even after a second independent child reported the matter. When I asked for further resolution, Buddy Coleman kicked me and my wife (who is also employed at the school) out of his office

Overall experienceMy personal experiance Durning the 2016-2017: Overall math was my worst subject and at the end of the year I had an F in math. I dreaded math everyday I went to class. In math the class did a short warmup, after that we reviewed our homework and only went over 5 problems. Later we pulled out a textbook and read our cericulum. I personally believe this is not the way to teach. It was vary hard to understand what the book was talking about. The teacher would help when being asked upon but when you are always at a student with a problem its hard to get some help. I would Predict that 75% or more of my class had failed. EOG’s: When it came to test time around the end of the year students with the higher test scores were asked to come back to school to take the test again to help the schools overall test average. Honestly I do not see How/Why this could be legal. Projects: This school gave me a project almost every time we finished a section in just about every class. Where I am Now: Today I attend Trinity High School any my grades are beyond expectation with my father. Public school is honestly the best thing that has happened to me in my schooling. I do not struggle in any of my classes and I strive in my math class and bring home many A’s every week!STRONGLY DISAGREE: This school has an effective approach to homework.I think that this school gives more homework than most students can handle. They also assign a online program called “Dreambox”. I personally beleave this is the worst investment you could ever dedicate your school to, This program dose not provide hardly, any instruction if any at all... They claim it works by telling stories of a kindergartner at a 5th grade level at math, but lets get back down to earth most students are not as academically enhanced at the discribe this person.DISAGREE: Teachers at this school are effective.Additude is everything, and this school has many teachers with Strict classroom policies. This affects the learning atmosphere of a child and can lead to falling behind and low test scores.DISAGREE: This school develops strong character in its students, like integrity, compassion and respect.I beleave that this school try’s to build character through the I.B program. Unfortunately when you are reading the cericulam from a text book it dose not influence much enthusiasm.DISAGREE: This school effectively deals with bullying.Bullying is more common as a student moves to the next grade level(s). The school handles it with short punishment to the student causing a disturbance. Example: Calling someone something could Resault in a Warning or a Half a day in ISS (In School Supsention). But to common troublemakers this is only a brief time in ISS, they need longer punishments.

Giving this school a one star is stretching it quite a lot. This is the worst school I have ever had the misfortune to encounter as a parent, grandparent or educator. The school is riddled with bad practices from the superintendent to the teaching staff. My grandson went there and he was actually bullied by his own teacher! I would never---NEVER recommend this institution that calls itself a school to anyone. Please read this review before you entertain the idea of enrollment for your child. The negative experience that my grandson suffered at this institution will not soon be forgotten.
