Ms. Thompson and her fellows instructors are nothing short of amazing! We are in the Little Ninjas program and my son has progressed so much in a short time because of the ability she has to work with the kids. She never forces anything and will take time to go work with a kid one on one off to the side if she needs. She has a very good way of getting my son to listen, something I don’t even know how to do! Absolutely recommend HTA.

I have been doing taekwondo off and on now for about 5 - 6 yrs now. And I have trained at many different schools. I started out at HTA and left for personal reasons not related to my training. For scheduling reasons I started training at another school for about a year. The facilities at the 2nd school were appalling. It stunk of smelly feet and BO. But while I had never smelled anything like that at HTA I was willing to over look it to be training again and this time with my whole family. At HTA, while my kids and I were all enrolled each of us were in different classes hence the scheduling conflict. In hindsight, that was a bonus rather than a drawback but at the time I thought I liked the idea of having my kids in class with me. As it turned out the other school only had 1 instructor for the entire class so the higher ranking students taught the lower ranking ones. Which meant I was teaching my kids their forms and correcting their mistakes. Just about any parent out there will tell ya...your own kids are MUCH better behaved for someone else than they are for you. So my personal training as well as my relationship with my kids suffered as a result of this practice. Trust me, Ms. and Mr. Thompson are very skilled at teaching your children the skills and technics required to excel in tkd, as is all their other instructors. I stayed at the 2nd school until my contract was up. And left as soon as I was able to get out of the contract.( I never experienced any contract issues with HTA. In fact, just the opposite. When I was having surgery and wouldnt be able to train for a month Ms. Thompson allowed me to keep that months payment and tact on an extra month to the end of my contract.)So I left the other school and quit training for a while. I tried to keep up with exercising on my own but found I didnt have the self discipline to do it on a regular basis. So I started looking for another new school; too embarrassed to return to HTA after quiting. I trained at various other schools here and there for a few months at a time, but inevitably was disappointed with the instructions or the cleanliness of the facility...ect. I seemed to keep a constant case of athletes foot during this time as well. Eventually I swallowed my pride and ask Ms. Thompson if I could come back and start training again with her. Im once again very pleased to be doing tkd.On another note, I read in some of the other reviews that the owner was rude or didnt care about her customers; even that one mom was shocked at being shushed while her child was in class. I can understand not liking to be able to correct your childs behavior or to even just be able to communicate with them during an activity they are involved in. But as I have already mentioned the instructors at HTA are well trained and skilled at teaching your children tkd, maybe not math homework or reading on a regular basis (they actually may be pretty good at that too but thats not what you are paying them for.) but they do excel at teaching tkd to both kids and adults. Also, with tkd being such a physical sport there are safety reason why they dont want you to interact with your kids while they are on the floor. I once told my son to fix his strap on his foot gear while he was sparring and when he turned around to see what I was saying his sparring partner nailed him in the head with a round kick. He was ok, but it could have been a much more hazardous mistake and something I knew better than. While she may come off as rude, or uncaring for giving quick short answers or shushing someone in the lobby. There are a list of reasons for it and at the top of the list is the safety of every student there. The instructors are there to help train your kids in martial arts, and time spent off the floor to answer questions is time not spent supervisoring those kids, and just the right time for someone to get hurt. So her answers are short and to the point, probably not because she doesnt care but more because she DOES CARE.(Edited for clarity and grammar.)
