Took a 4+ hour trip with Captain John. A little rain in the morning did not delay or ruin our trip. We were able to leave on time and head out. John is a stud; picked up some bait on the way out. He read the tides/situation and put us in a great spot to catch fish and sharks. We fished out near Tybee Island and a couple spots on the sandbar.Boat was clean, stable and fully stocked for all our fishing needs.We will book another troop on our next visit and highly recommend!

We had an excellent trip and Captain Nick was a real pro! I only took it down a star because we had to shorten the trip due to weather and we got only caught sharks, no fish. Not any fault of his, just not quite what we were hoping for. Still, he got us to the right spot to catch something and we caught 4 sharks in rapid succession, took tons of great photos, and enjoyed the boat ride. The kids loved the bean bag chairs! This is a real professional outfit.

A must-do experience when visiting Hilton Head! We loved it so much, we booked a 2nd charter later the same week! Our fishing charter was one of the most memorable family vacation excursions weve ever done. We had the most amazing time fishing and shark tooth hunting with Byron of Native Son Adventures. He engages everyone and you can tell he truly loves what he does, loves where he lives, and cares so much. Byron takes the time to not only make sure you have a great outing, but also engages kids so they learn about boating, fishing, local history, you name it. Even with threatening weather, Captain Nick made sure we had our fill of catching big fish! From sharks big and small, to large red and black drum we were reeling in fish our entire trip. What a great day! We had eight people in our party; unfortunately, only six of us were able to go. Hopefully, in the future, we can all go. Otherwise, we will have to keep bringing stories back of what a great time we had. We opted for the Savannah River Shark Tooth option. The day started with a boat ride to two locations to hunt shark’s teeth. Along the way, we saw dolphins and manta rays. It does not get much better than riding on a boat when the weather is perfect. My favorite part was the impromptu paddleboard ride behind the boat. It made the day that much more fun and unique. Thank you to Nick for a fun day.

By far one of the most amazing vacation experiences of all of our family trips! Well worth the time to take a tour with Byron and Native Son Adventures! We learned so much about local history and fossils! Found shark teeth and 1 million plus old Colombian Mammoth tooth!

Many thanks to our captain and entertainer, Byron. My family and I cannot say enough good things about our excursion. Byron shared some of the history of Hilton Head Island along with identifying all the beautiful wildlife we encountered (including a number of dolphins). Having the boat to ourselves verses some big group excursions was absolutely perfect for my Autistic daughter. She was able to truly enjoy herself and feel safe and not overwhelmed by a packed boat of strangers. It was truly a wonderful experience for us all .

Awesome experience! Going fishing with Byron was the highlight of my vacation to Hilton Head. It was my first time and I caught a lot of awesome fish. Including a huge hammer head shark! What a great day on the water with Capt Byron and Native Son Adventures. The smiles on the face of my son says it all. Despite some rougher than normal weather we were able to catch 2 sharks, trout, red fish all with the local knowledge of where the fish are. We found sharks teeth, saw dolphins up close playing, leaned local history, got to see the beautiful island from the water and not only met a great captain but now a friend. Absolutely amazing Eco Tour!!!! Birds, Dolphins, Manatee, Crabs, etc. were all part and very visible. Captain shared fun local facts and knowledge and even shared his high quality photos with us. We will definitely book again and every year when we visit. We had children ages 4-15 with us so it is for all.

We did a sunset tiki cruise with Byron and it was incredible. We not only learned so much about Hilton Head and the surrounding islands as well as the local wildlife, we also had several great encounters with dolphins. Add in the reggae music and Byron’s fun personality and it was a cruise that checked every box for all five of us (parents and three young girls). The beautiful sunset was the perfect icing on the cake. We will definitely be back!

I grew up on HHI and have know Captain Byron almost all of my life. Unfortunately I never knew what an absolute treasure HHI and the surrounding areas really were until I grew up and moved away. We hooked up with Byron again after I came back with my extended family and children for vacation. We had such a great time with Byron fishing and exploring. His passion for educating people about the wildlife and conservation in addition to putting us on all kinds of fish to catch was so much more than I was expecting. We have been back numerous times now and Byron and his crew have always showed us the best times! My 11 year old cherishes any time he gets to be around Byron and gain some wisdom. He makes it fun and his energy is contagious. I’d recommend Native Son to anyone who wants to have fun and go on adventure with a true local waterman. Can’t wait to get back!

From beginning to end, my experience with Native son was top notch. Byron was quick to respond and book our 5 hour charter. Captain Nick was professional and knowledgeable. Hilton Head Island Best Boating Adventure! We went out yesterday with Byron and Native Son and what an amazing day! We had a great day out with Native Son Adventures!! We did a day with a native, a 7-hour combo of fishing, beach combing (shark’s teeth), paddle boarding, pulling crab traps, dolphin watching, and a great tour and history lesson of Calibogue Sound, Daufuskie Island, and the Savannah River. Byron was great with our boys, ages 12, 9, and 7. We found tons of shark’s teeth and cool fossils, including a few Megladon teeth! We saw Bald Eagles and sea birds, lots of dolphins, ran off some vultures to check out an awesome sturgeon skeleton, and generally had just a great time. The fishing was a little slow, but Byron improvised and took the boys out to do some paddle board surfing behind the boat, and checked some crab traps. Our kids are already talking about our next trip!! Thanks Byron for a great day on the water!!

Wonderful experience for my daughter never tried surfing before and was pretty apprehensive. But within 30 seconds with Byron and his team she was comfortable felt safe and before you know it was gleefully riding waves! What a special day run by a very special person

We had a wonderful time learning to surf! Even my son who is more nervous with new adventures felt comfortable and got all the way up! Everyone was so helpful and encouraging.

We had a great morning with Cory. Everyone from our 5 year old daughter to her grandmother was able to catch a shark. We also were able to find some sharks teeth and shells, catch several crabs and watch dolphins multiple times. There was very good communication in advance and Byron and Cory were both very flexible to plan a custom outing with a variety of activity for our family. I lost count how many times our daughter said awesome that morning.

Native Son was hands down the best fishing trip we’ve been on! Hurricane Dorian looming on the coast made us a little worried about going out but after talking to Byron and reviewing the weather and winds they found the perfect day and time to go. Captain Corey was super laid back and perfect for us. Original spot to fish didn’t have any hits :(. Not to worry these Corey knew the waters and the wildlife so well in Hilton Head that he had several back up plans to make the trip worth it. We ended up catching 8 small sharks (variety of types), a whiting, 2 southern sting rays, a red fish, and last but not least we got to see several dolphins up close and personal! (Side note: it was mating season for dolphins....cover your eyes kids!) Absolutely recommend Native Son with Corey! Loved it!

We spent 8 hours with Capt. Byron on a FANTASTIC adventure. We found many sharks teeth, cool shells, one baby megalodon tooth, and then went deep sea fishing. We caught our dinner! We couldnt have asked for a more informative, special day with someone who knows this area and these waters very well. Everyone, from the grandkids to the grandparents, are still talking about our adventure from four days ago. You absolutely cant go wrong spending a day with Native Son!!!

This was the best part of our vacation. We took my father and law out for a late Father’s Day present and it could have not been any better. We only did a couple of house but my son and his grandfather got to reel in 2 sharks and hold them for pictures and even had dolphins that were hanging out with us while we fished. It was a perfect trip and are already planning on doing a much longer trip next time we are in Hilton head.

Captain Cory is such a good soul and fine gentleman. He understood that Zeus, the Genie Of Knoxville was a bit nervous about getting out on a boat. However he assured Zeus that the Native Son Adventures had a great boat and life preservers - it would be a safe experience.We just wanted an exploration ride around the sound. There was a dense fog, but Captain Cory and the company obliged. It was a great treat! Zeus enjoyed being out on the water very much. The Genie went on and on about what a wonderful time he had out on the water - this is coming from a man who said Genies don’t like water. Lol! Captain Cory placed fear at bay and created a wonderful enchanting tour through the fog. The historical narrative he shared along the way was so intriguing. I highly recommend Captain Cory and this wonderful charter if you have anyone in your party not so certain about getting out on a boat.I enjoyed the whole experience!! I want to book with them again when I come back to visit my family! Five star custom boat excursion!!!!

Learning to surf with Native Son was a life changing experience. Byron was so fun and relaxed, it was amazing! His passion for the ocean and its inhabitants was very clear which made the experience so important. Id recommend it to anyone even remotely interested in surfing.

Me and my friends had an awesome time and we all learned very quickly. Perfect area to learn and awesome boards, even better instructors. 10/10 recommend using native son adventures if you or a friend wants to learn to surf quick and have a great deal of fun.

Talk about fun ... serious fun! A week ago my daughter and I took a trip with Byron, specifically to go shark tooth hunting. My expectations were for a nice boat ride, a bit of exploring, and maybe a few little shark teeth.Instead, we got so much more! We zipped through the maze of marsh backwaters that he knows like the back of his hand and pulled up on a beach head where he swore we could find some teeth.We jumped off the boat and within 10 feet, I found my first perfect tooth. Enthused and encouraged, we split up and headed in different directions with our heads down and our eyes peeled. Every time we found one -usually an inch or two long - you could hear a yahoo but, of course, we were all hoping to find the Mac Daddy of sharks teeth - the MeglodonThose were millions of years old and HUGE.When I found the first one, barely showing at the edge of marsh grass, my 60+year old body did a happy dance that surprised even me.By the end of the day, we all had at least one Meglodon and bunches of smaller ones from bull, mako, sand, and hammerheads.The best part of the adventure was hanging with Byron - his energy is boundless, his humor is infectious, and he definitely knows how to make sure his clients laugh, learn, and have a grand ol time.
