Great place to learn Karate! Definitely family oriented

After about 2 years here I have raised my rating from four stars to five. This is only after a long observation of how the Sensi teachers and manages his class and students. Or daughter has gained a strong athletic ability as well as a great sense of discipline.This is a school of true martial arts, not just pay to play for belts.

We have both our 4 & 5 yr old sons enrolled at Smith Family Dojo. Sensei Smith is outstanding with the kids, hes very patient, knowledgeable and gets the kids attention very well. The class are always fun and makes my kids very excited to attend their karate at all times. They have different age range of classes that will be suitable for a particular age group. I would highly recommend Smith Family Dojo to everyone!

Both my daughters attend the Smith Family Dojo and we could not be any happier with our experience so far. Mr. Kevin, is wonderful with the students, and my children have learned so much, become more disciplined and really look forward to Karate every week and they really love Mr. Kevin. My 6 year old son just started karate at Smith Family Dojo, and we absolutely love it!! My sons last name is also Smith, so he was dying to go to this Dojo, once he seen the name. We have two boys that have been attending Smith Family Dojo for about two years now and they both love it! Sensei Smith is extremely knowledgeable and is great at understanding how to reach children of all ages and with individual differences and needs. The environment is extremely welcoming for families and we have a blast at the monthly events hosted by Sensei Smith and his wife. Excellent instructor who truly cares about his students. This is a great school for Adults and children to learn a traditional Martial art with good solid self defense.

I have been training at SFD since it has opened and all of the parents and students are just amazing and Sensei Smith is the best possible teacher to teach kids from age 4 to adults, I have made soo many friends and i am glad to be able to share my experiences with everyone as they join the Smith Family Dojo. It is a family place with monthly dojo events that help us kids get together and have a fun time with our families to mingle and get to know each other. I have enjoyed every moment to this wonderful place and i cannot wait for many more years to come at Smith Family Dojo!!

We were so happy to find okinawan kenpo karate in n.c. after taking it in hawaii. sensei smith is awesome with both the kids, and adults. he truly cares about the meaning and history of karate and instills that into his students!

It is rare nowadays to find a martial arts dojo that is not only dedicated to its students, but to its ART. In a time where dojos are going bigger, flashier, and more modern (?) Smith family dojo, and Smith Sensei are all about the traditions of Okinawa Kenpo and the way it was taught originally. You can watch videos of Smith sensei and then watch videos of Master Odo and see very little difference in the way they each perform their katas or techniques. We are very fortunate to have good representation of Okinawa Kenpo in NC, and Hope Mills is very grateful to have Smith Family Dojo.

My children ages 5 & 8 started at the Smith Family Dojo almost a year ago. In this past year they have grown to enjoy martial arts, and that is all due to the teachings of Sensei Kevin Smith. He is patient, engaging, and encouraging when teaching Okinawa Kenpo history and techniques. All these qualities help the students learn and grow in a positive environment. The studio is also centered around family. Each month a dojo event is held to give students and their families an opportunity to mix and mingle with each other. We have enjoyed each and every class and dojo event. We are moving out of state and I want my children to continue training in martial arts. However, I know that we will never find another dojo that offers as much as the Smith Family Dojo.

Ive been training on and off for over 20 years with Sensei Smith, and I can assure you there is no one who cares more about the youth in our community. A real class act who is involved in many community events that support our children!
