I graduated from this school about 4 years ago. Honestly, I made great memories there and the athletics were great. I attended a public high school and I was way ahead of everyone else. I can definitely say that this is a great school academically and has had a huge impact on my academic life. However, the teachers were pretty nasty. A lot of them would constantly complain about the students and made it seem like they hated their jobs. Especially Mrs. Felton. Mrs. Felton was really judgmental and would even tell us that we were going to hell. Mind you that we were in the 5th grade at the time. She made it seem like God hated us and we were gonna die in the real world. Also, teachers dont really care about you. I was really depressed in middle school and used to do self-harm. When my teacher saw my cuts, she just embarrassed me in front of the whole class and told me to stop. Nobody actually cared about helping me except Mrs. Izard and Ms. Osborne. A lot of the teachers I had have already retired, but in elementary school, the teachers made it their duty to publicly humiliate you and hurt your self-esteem. They just liked to tear you down. This school needs younger teachers and should stop holding onto 70+ year old teachers just because theyve been teaching there so long. Also they barely have any extra curricular activities and the schools pretty boring. Nobodys hype. The pep rallies were dry and the football games were trash. Anyways gang gang

Have posted reviews and photos from previous visits. The Church is beautiful. The atmosphere is condusive to quiet prayer. And, something very special is the Adoration Chapel. Visitors spend time in this prayer Chapel in quiet conversation with Jesus, God the Son. Also, some pray in unison reflecting on the life of Jesus through the recitation of the Holy Rosary. During my visits to Houston to spend time with my family, I go to St Thomas More daily for Holy Mass. Those who are present usually are there before going into work; so, many dont stay long in Church. However, some remain and spend time in the Adoration Chapel for private prayers or to join in community prayers. My visit to family is not complete without my visits to St Thomas More.

Both of my sons went to St. Thomas More Parish School. We loved it there because of the open communications between the students, parents, and teachers. We had a number of ways with communicating with each other, and what is great about the school is they do their best to find the right way for each family.

I understand there are students who don’t excel as well as others, but that doesn’t give educators the right to discriminate their students. My experience has involved a teacher making a sly comment about the possibility that I would not graduate from that school right in front of me. How dare you? Here’s a few tips:- instead of betting against your students and gossiping to other teachers about those who struggle, offer help.-Get religion teachers who don’t shame girls for how they dress. Who tells a 12 year old girl to dress modestly so it leaves room for imagination for the boys. That’s disgusting!-Don’t reject your students for their academic struggle.

My little one currently attends the preschool and we have seen remarkable growth in their learning confidence. As parents you want the best for your kid STM is a wonderful place to send your child. It is a place the teachers and administrators care and parents are involved. Here is my list of some of the best qualities of STM*Academics in incorporated at an early age but not in a stressful way*STEM is a very important part of the curriculum. Robotics classes start in PreK 4*You can always get in contact with your teachers and they are very communicative throughout the school year* The class body is diverse much like the city we live in. When looking at schools it was important as parents that the school reflect the world we live in. It’s not just racially diverse but also economically diverse. STM provide great assistance to those that qualify without sacrificing a high quality education* Parents supporting parents. As parents it’s great to have a network of people who are willing to help in little waysThe best thing I can say is that not only have we been welcomed with open arms but my LO is learning so much and has made great friends. We plan on keep them at the school through 8th grade.

I wish I could say something positive about this school, but honestly as a parent im appalled of the STM staff. I have two children that attend STM, and almost everyday my children come home crying. As a parent the most devastating thing is seeing your children in tears and questioning themselves constantly. STM has taught my two children to be unconfident in themselves and ashamed of their genders. My children should not be receiving sexist comments in a middle school environment. My children have also complained to me about extreme punishments. I totally understand that a child should be disciplined for their actions to a certain extent, but not disciplined to the point where my children have fear of going to school. One of my children had always been a very energetic and talkative young child, and I am just totally disgusted by the way that these teachers have addressed her talking issues. They not only screamed at my child, but threatened my child to not be able to attend high school. Compared to some of the other stories that is not the worst. My oldest child told me one of the most disturbing stories I would have never expected to hear. My child has been talking about not being able to wait until the day of the talent show. She had been waiting all year for this, but one of the teachers had no problem taking that away from them. One of the students in her class had laughed at something funny in religion class. I understand that it was not an appropriate time for laughter and fun, because there is never time for that at STM. The teacher screamed at my childs class and made them stay in from the talent show. My daughter was miserable writing bible pages and praying the rosary in a freezing cold room for a whole hour. The teacher just laughed at my daughters class while they were suffering. I will not go into anymore detail, but my child had to attend therapy for a month after this traumatizing experience.PLEASE keep your child away from STM and look into other schools. STM is not the choice for your student and I will definitely not be sending my children there next year. I did not want to write this review, but I feel that it must be said so your students arent sent there.Thank you

Graduated recently, and am glad I left. Teachers were racist and biased. I wish I had run away sonner. If you say a single harsh word or act slightly out of line forget about it. Academic stress, annoying teachers ugh. BAD FOOD. Computer teacher had me teach them and taught me nothing at all. same with many of the teachers tech was worst, so was art, and oh, Ms.Kelly.

I graduated in 2005 and had a great experience academically. Im not sure who still teaches there, but there was definitely sexism running rampant from the teachers. Boys were at least 10 times more likely to get conduct reports, detentions, or other write ups. I understand that boys may be more prone to violent behavior, but girls definitely have their catty moments that warrant some sort of punishment. I was also part of the extended day program which, until middle school, was a good experience. As children get older, the extended day program ceases to be effective in providing an environment that children can benefit from. Giving a middle school student a time-out for talking during homework time is excessive.

Love this school!!! I now have college and high school children who graduated from St. Thomas More (STM) Middle School, and they were absolutely well-prepared academically, socially, and spiritually for what they had to face beyond middle school. I still have younger children at STM, learning, thriving and growing. The school has always treated my children fairly and with respect. In the many years weve been here, Ive only had a few issues and each was addressed with the regard it deserved. The school is high achieving, and I admit, its not a place for everyone. If youre a student who doesnt want to study, who doesnt know how to respect authority, then this is not the place for you. If you are a parent who refuses to work with the staff and teacher for your own childs best interests, this is not the school for your child(ren). Students who come to school to learn, do their part in studying, show respect, thrive and succeed in STM. Parents who work with the school find themselves highly satisfied with their experience. It would be very difficult to find a place where the academic, spiritual and extracurricular activities are so enriching!

So, here we are. I went here for 12 years and for the first years up until 5th grade, it was great. No problems until I hit sixth grade... Thats when I started to experience the sexism, classism, and racism . It started off slight, and then got much worse. from a teacher telling a mexican kid to learn to swim so he could go back across the border, to a teacher making all the boys in my grade scrub the floors of a bathroom on our hands and knees, it was such a prejudicial school. Do not get me wrong. It has its upsides but besides that, its pretty bad. One time, I was changing in the locker room after P.E., and I got in a fight with a really, really, rich kid. After throwing insults at him, another rich kid joined in and yelled At least I can pay tuition! He took shots at the fact that my family was in financial crisis. And he got no punishment. I and a few friends were at the bottom of the barrel in school. We had no money, tried to behave, and were descriminated against. Everytime we did one slight thing out of line, a teacher would lose it. The zero tolerance policy would kick in, wed be punished like no other, (Like with threats of Expulsion, suspension, detention, and academic failure.) One of my friends was threatened with suspension, expulsion from the track team, or acedemic failure (by which I mean they treated to purposely change his grades to much lower ones), for just saying a curse word. Overall, it had challenging acedemics, racism, sexism against boys, and classism against the poor. Another crazy thing I thought Id add was the fact that a religion teacher made a fleas design their own tombstones, and their own speeches they would give at their own deaths. Thank you, and have a good night.Poltergeist

During my K-8 years, here are some of the things I witnessed/experienced:-One teacher would make racist remarks, another made Islamophobic ones-A youth minister told girls that they shouldnt dress immodestly because its better to let boys just imagine whats there.-Advanced students are pressured which breeds academic anxiety.-Teachers yelled at students for the smallest of issues. Some teachers acted like they didnt want to be there and that teaching students was an inconvenience.-Nurse believed that most, if not all students were faking/over-exaggerating being sick, rolled her eyes and sent them back to class-Counselor said they would keep everything I said to her confidential, and then proceeded to tell my teachers everything I said-No talking during the majority of lunch and punishment for doing so is excessive-Science education is very biased-Girls did not have a pants option in uniforms and were told to wear stockings during the winter, even though they provide significantly less warmth than pants would.-Teachers were not afraid to publicly humiliate students in front of classmates-Math teachers did not teach, but expected students to complete homework 100% correct. Although the math teacher I had for middle school is no longer there, she would spend the whole class time making us present problems for homework that she did not teach us how to do.-School accepts almost anyone to get their tuition money. Students suspended from other private/public schools end up hereTL;DR - There are better schools to send your kid to.
