Super disappointed. Made a reservation using open table and Google for this even Valentines. Drive all the way out only to find the restaurant closed. No mention of closure online. Visited the Facebook page and web page and had no indication that you would be closed. So here we are... parents of 4 kiddos driving around trying to find dinner 😞 Update your website/ remove the ability to make a reservation. 👎🏼

This was our first visit to Kris. Frankly it was not easy to find, but the GPS worked wonders. We arrive at our appointed reservation time, but a table was not ready. This is not uncommon in restaurants, of course. Here, we were guided to the bar to wait until a table was ready. Kris, himself, offered us wine or champagne while we waited -- on the house. Once at our table we enjoyed prompt service for wine while we viewed the menu. Note that the menu is not extensive but changes regularly. The restaurant is part of, and located in, the Culinary Institute of Houston and the chefs were graduates of the school and did a fantastic job with the culinary experience really, really enjoyed with the food well presented. One problem is that two of our company ordered mussels and while in one order the mussels were open and ready to eat, on the other order the mussels were closed. Without any question the one order was removed and was replaced. Due to the wait, three of us had virtually finished, so when the replacement order of mussels arrived (and I must say that they were in a most delicious sauce) Kris brought over a tray of cheese so that those of us would have something to eat and the person with the mussels would not have to eat alone. NOW, THAT IS CLASS!!! I must add that the dinner was enjoyed thoroughly and will be the first of many trips to Kris.

We were greeted immediately when we entered the door. Waiter was polite and attentive throughout the entire experience and presented himself as if we were truly at a restaurant in France. The place itself looked very nice and the bread brought to the table was as good as I have ever had.Menu was limited to the Houston Restaurant Week for Harvey relief, but what I did have was phenomenal.Scallops were cooked to perfection.NY strip is definitely one of my least liked cuts of steak, but it was actually very good here.Desert was also exceptional. We will definitely be adding this place on the “return to” list. It’s also cool to be able to see into the kitchen where the food is made.

We made reservations for this restaurant for our anniversary. Trying to get to this place was an adventure. However, when we got inside, we were amazed by the service and the attention to detail by the waiters. The food was exquisite. Definitely visiting Kris again. Dont let the location fool you this is an amazing restaurant and in my book is the best in Houston for special occasion.

Chef Kristofer Jakob went overboard for our event! He prepared an amazing menu for Yes Prep East End Senior Dinner Banquet. The staff took care of all the details and provided our party of 110 with a culinary experience out this world. The dessert was double amazing and the shrimp balls appetizers were a hit among our picky eaters, which tells you how delicious they were. Every spoon was full of exploiting flavors catered to the palate of teens ( we adults enjoyed it too) This place is a hidden gem! A wonderful venue for intimate events like the one we had last weekend. It was not my first time at the restaurant, however it was my first catered event, and I must say that every dime spent was 100% worthy. Triple kudos to the Chef, the kitchen staff and everyone involved in the planning and cooking. It was an unforgettable experience for our 2015 Graduating Class.

Amazing. From beginning to end. This is truly one of the best places in Houston. The warmth from the staff, the exquisite menu, the modern decor, - everything comes together to create a fabulous evening for romance, a large family dinner, or a wine stop for friends. Reasonable prices (for a great wine selection and French cuisine) are matched with a menu that changes with the season.

I came here for a large dinner with about 18 people and a few kids. The food was incredible and the pricing very reasonable. They did a great job of explaining what we were getting, suggesting dishes for our table and recommending wine pairings. They were also very accommodating to the kids in our group. They made them chicken nuggets and fries for kiddo appetites, even though there was no kids menu. The timing of the food and service was a little slow, but its also to be expected with a large group and a staff/kitchen that is in training. Overall, it was a great experience and our party was really impressed with the food. Will definitely be back.

The 4 of us had Easter Sunday brunch. It was a bit if a fiasco to start with. I called to make reservations for brunch at the school and was told they were closed on Sunday. I wasnt told it was the Bistro that was open just that the school was closed. After confirming with a friend that I had called the the wrong number I called the bistro. Nobody knew anything about booking a reservation for Sunday Easter brunch. I would have to wait until the manager got back and they would call me back. Huh? This was 4 days before Easter Sunday. No return call....got online and paid my 200 bucks. But then nowhere on the website did it say what time. I called a managers cell phone and requested 1 PM. Ok....next day I get an email to confirm my time for Saturday. ..not Sunday? By this time I was thinking this was a joke. Finally got a time confirmed after several phone calls and complaints to the management about the ongoing hassle. We were promptly seated when we arrived. We had to ask for everything because it was a buffett that they didnt replenish without us asking. Coffee pot was empty, no clean plates, no clean glasses, cream was gone, the desert bar looked like someone had tasted everything and put it back. The salads were nasty the fruit was all gone the bacon was undercooked and the eggs Benedict was overcooked. Their signature crepe dessert was gluey and gummy. Very unappetizing. The wait staff had to be asked for everything including water. It was a miserable experience frankly. We paid a 10 dollar service fee on top of 40 dollars for food and wished we had gone to Dennys.

This is the hidden gem of Houston! The staff is amazing. The food is high class but the staff is so good atabreaking down the wines and menus withoutwmaking youyfeel likelan idiot. Onmultiple occasions I have spoken with the chefs to thank them. Everything is reasonably priced and the food is arguably some of the best in the city. If you are looking for an intimate dinner that will blow you away, look no further. You have found your spot.

I was only made aware of Kris after being invited here with a group of family and friends. the concept itself makes for a conversation starter. it is very interesting and inspiring being in the middle of a culinary school, watching the students work. the menu matched the season well and had a nice breadth of flavors to match any palette. they were very accommodating when I brought up my food allergies. The food was good, from the starters to dessert. I am giving it an ok simply because the service was quite slow and our dinner took entirely too long for the small amount of tables dining. I would love to go back and hopefully that part was a fluke.

Great restaurant experience all around! This restaurant, hidden in the culinary institute, is one of the best in Houston.Enter the institute to check in and wait in the lobby, where you can see part of the student kitchen. Travel a long hall to the dining room, modestly sized but open feeling. The menu includes ingredients sourced locally, namely the produce grown in house. Everything from plant to protein was remarkably fresh, perfectly prepared and brilliantly presented. The attention to detail in every dish is unmatched. The staff takes an enormous amount of pride in all aspects - theyre excited to explain and recommend dishes and are very attentive without being bothersome.Chef Christopher is welcoming to guests, willing to answer questions about the restaurant and school. The floor manager, CJ, is also really friendly and informative.Recommendations:charcuterie - totally worth the hypefried oysters - the best texture eversalmon - cooked perfectly medium-rareWell be back soon for another great meal and maybe a cooking class or two.

My name is Carlos but the chefs call lil c-los I think of them as family when I was 10 they made me want to say I want to be a chef now I love cooking if it wasn’t for them I don’t even know where would I be. I worked over there for 3 years and didn’t get paid because I love cooking i didn’t care for getting money anyways I was young but they really inspired me. One day I know I’m gonna be one of the greatest chefs in the world. And the cooking is amazing. Great everything. I wish I could visit them again. I wouldnt be who I am if it wasn’t for them. Greatest chefs I ever seen. they are an inspiration.

Orders ere not taken until almost 1230. Wine orders about !PM. Appetizers served around 130 and main course around 215-230pm. Desert orders taken at 315 and served around 330. Got out shortly before 4P.FOOD: menu showed half a dozen oysters mignonette, only five served and they were small, a couple had shell in them, not as good what you get at Pappadeaux for half the price.Duck was beautifully presented, as was most of the other food. We may have had the class that did has finished food preparation but not cooking. The duck sauces were pleasant but nothing special. The duck was non-descript. If I had eaten it in a blind tasting I would has said its meat beyond that it could have been pork or ostrich. The diner on my right complained that his steak was so over salted he could barely eat itMy wife had crab cakes, tasted them, yeh! Not lump meat but nice crust.SERVICE = SLOW THEY HAD ONE PERSON FOR 18PRICE - lunch for two, with tip and a glass of wine was $110.Going to Fuddruckers the next time Im hungry.

Sometimes a meal is more than a meal. It can make you smile, or have a fit, or sometimes it can take you by surprise and leave you speechless - as goes Kris Bistro. After going to the soft opening I just cant wait for this restaurant to really open so it get can the recognition it deserves. The food was INCREDIBLE and the word best was heard more than once at my table (all people at my table being very serious food lovers and cooks).Kris Bistro is located inside of the Culinary Institute of Le Notre. The outside is a little grungy and parking is a pain, but they are still working on it so no worries. Dont be discouraged from the outside or youll miss out on something great. The restaurant itself is dark (in a good way) and has good mood lighting with open spaces to sit and look out into the space, or corners that let you feel more private and away from groups. We sat in a darker corner that gave us a nice view of the kitchen working hard through big glass windows, and Chef Kris, himself, garnishing plates from the hydroponic herb garden. I brought my own wine and our servers jumped on getting us glasses right away. From this point on just assume that the service was spot on the whole night. We started off with freshly baked bread and whipped butter, which was refilled promptly the whole night. Next came the appetizers - Escargots in Pomme Dauphine Kromesky (imagine the goodness of escargot in a potato beignet) and the Crispy Sweet Breads. They were both delicious. The sweetbreads were the BEST Ive ever had, hands down, no contest. My salad came next and had greens, goat milk feta, and shrimp with an herb vinaigrette. The shrimp were so perfectly cooked and cleaned that they looked something out of a picture. The tomatoes garnishing the plate were so juicy and sweet that we had a whole conversation about just the tomatoes. Here were the entrees I got to try: Smoked Beef with Fried Spatzel, Grilled Hanger Steak with Potato Puree, and Poached & Pan Seared Pork Tenderloin with Bourbon Glazed Peaches & Slaw on top of a Polenta Corn Cake. My friends beef entrees were cooked perfectly and very flavorful. I found myself trying to trick them into giving me more samples. The fried spatzel blew my friends mind as hed never had them any other way besides boiled. My pork wasnt cooked to perfection but the glazed peach on top of the polenta corn cake??? Best polenta Ive ever had for sure. I wasnt super satisfied with my pork so they brought me mussels in garlic, shallot, parsley, and white wine sauce. I massacred those mussels till there was no trace of mussels left. I am salivating at the thought of these mussels. You should be able to order these mussels by the pound, theyre so good.My experience was so good that I came back 2 days later to eat again. The next time I had Pan Roasted Salmon glazed in Lavender with a Tian of Summer Vegetables. Again, perfectly cooked salmon with lots of complex sauces going on around the plate. I left a happy camper once again.Did I mention that every tiny thing is made in house from scratch? Down to the curry ketchup and red pepper coulis, everything is fresh. What else would you expect from a kitchen full of trained chefs? And the best part? The prices are SO reasonable... Kris Bistro is like a diamond in the rough - hidden inside of a dingy place is the best French restaurant in Houston.
