I enrolled because I was scared to send my son to school due to the pandemic. Here are some things I actually like about connections academy.1. It is very flexible, you can work at any time during the day.2. Vacation days are a nice thing about connections academy that you cant find anywhere else.3. The school sends textbooks to your home which can be very convenient for families if they are on a tight schedule, since they dont have to physically go to the school to receive the textbooks.4. The teachers are very nice and helpful, except a few.I would now like to provide some things I didnt like about connections academy.1. The enrollment process is very frustrating and confusing. Once you upload your documents, it takes anywhere for 2-3 weeks for all the documents to get approved. Our documents didnt get approved by 2 weeks, so we called connections academy. It was very frustrating to wait an hour for the representative to pick up and trying to explain our problem, only for the representative to hang up without us explaining anything.2. The lessons are not very engaging. I found some differences between traditional school and connections academy. One of them was the lessons. You had to read an article and complete a short quiz at the end. I do not find that very engaging. The students will forget about the information the next day and mindlessly complete lessons without actually retaining information.3. LiveLessons. The LiveLessons are very frustrating, it is very messy. In the meetings, the screen is always cluttered. 90% of the time, if you try to enter the meeting, you will not be able to enter the meeting because the user limit is reached.4. Extra resources. Students should be able to have access to extra resources for each subject such as Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. Without resources, students will only complete the lessons and not learn anything else that might prove beneficial to them.5. The school claims to provide advanced and accelerated learning when in fact the lessons contain what was taught from the previous year. My son knows a lot of information, and he often learns things that are above his grade level. He also learns things taught in his current grade level. At the previous school my son attended, he took advanced math and he struggled. I can see this as a good thing because the teachers were actually challenging him with rigorous curriculum. Now, my son complains that the lessons are too easy and that he needs to be challenged. I feel like connections academy is not providing a rigorous curriculum.6. Advanced courses for other subjects. When I was enrolling my son in connections academy, we had the option to pick either a regular course option or an advanced course option. The only advanced option was available for math. My son excels in both math and science. Science, and other subjects should also have an advanced option.Overall, I am very dissatisfied with this school. There are so many bad things about this school, and only a few good things. I plan to withdraw my son from this school before the second semester and send him back to traditional school. My son loves traditional school anyway and he starts to miss it.Dont send your kids here. Please. It is like living hell.

We love Texas Connections Academy! My daughter has been attending for 4 years now. So happy! If you just want to do your work and mind your own business this is the school for you. Live Lessons, and lesson recordings make it easy to do the school work. Flexibility with assignments. Access to teachers. Teaches children to be responsible for their work. You get what you give. Excellent access to resources. I like that my child can commit their day to training and work in the evening. Assignments can be accessed at anytime. I have been using TCAH for two years and I recommend it to any parent whose child struggles with a traditional setting. Do your homework before signing up— it’s not for everyone but it’s better than the traditional system.

I had to update my review as my son has now been at Connections for two years now. Connections has exceeded my expectations beyond belief. Enrollment was so easy, teachers always respond to my sons questions and my own quickly and politely and professionally, and I feel like they really care . My son is in Gifted and Talented and was never challenged in his old school. Connections offers advanced classes YEAR Round as opposed to the one hour a week at his brick and mortar school. They provide all books and make sure you know how to navigate the systems. Putting my son in Connections is not something I will ever regret. My only complaint is they do not offer more opportunities for children to be social with other children, but they even are slowly fixing that.Parents have to be active as a learning coach to ensure your child is keeping up to date with their work, but I feel as if parents should be doing that no matter what school your child attends. I have zero regrets leaving brick and mortar school for remote learning at Connections Academy as they offer EVERYTHING that they do. Thank you Connections for improving my sons education experience! I am forever grateful and thankful.

The school claims for it to ‘be at your own pace’ which is not true whatsoever. The general use of tech is also very hard to use, as it seems like it was made in the early 2000s. Even though they are very lenient with late work, they place 6-8 lessons a day, which adds up VERY easily and can become overwhelming ESPECIALLY during a global pandemic and a time of stress and self-isolation.

Texas Connections Academy has been the best choice I could have made. I have seen such a difference in the return of love of school from my daughter. This was our first year attending a online school. With the pandemic our public school was not prepared and I was so unsure how safe my daughter would be. I called around seeking information which I can manage around my working schedule. Well hands down Texas Connections Academy was the best through the time on preparing the sections assignments. The teachers are amazing and they reach out to the children and very intouch with the many issues kids fight with on a daily basis. Texas Connections Academy really focus on how the student learns, and the students just flourish and get that sence of excitement and move on. We have already signed up to attend for next year. Not only am I excited but so is my daughter. This one on one experience is the best. I see the many advantages the students take with the many clubs and extra areas for advancements when it comes to educating all students. I cannot say anything negative about Texas Connections Academy, but stand beside all advisors and know how grateful that a school sees my daughter and her education of importance.

I have been waiting for 9 days for a call-back or email from James Garrett, my daughters counselor. Half of their downloads dont work, and when the students try to start a conversation with the teachers looking for help or an alternative download, theyr ignored. Parents are ignored. The website can be difficult to navigate to find lessons and downloads. It needs to be more user-friendly. I am highly suspicious of these 5 star ratings. When I got ill freshman year of high school, I no choice but to drop out of my current public school and find another way to continue my education. Texas connections was there for me and helped me make up the month of school I missed. The teachers are amazing and the website is easy to use. I have read the negative reviews of it and was very upset. This is an amazing program and yes, some lessons are modified but the teachers try their best to inform you on which ones are the correct one to do. Maybe it is not the best site for children under 13 but honestly if your child is old enough to be self sufficient, then this is perfect for them. You have so much more time during the week and Live Lessons are fun but not mandatory unless you are a senior taking AP classes. So here I am, a senior and about to graduate from a school that worked with me and not against me. I just couldnt let the only review on here be negative since this school and its teachers have done such a great job helping me.

So, this is my second year with Connections and my last as Ill be graduating with this 2016 class. The parents saying that this is too difficult and that the teachers are teaching to the STAAR test have obviously never been closely involved in their childs education previously. Admittedly, at times the lessons are difficult, but the teachers are extremely helpful and more than willing to help any student willing to ask for assistance. If your child can not handle the less structured environment, that has less to do with the school and more to do with the childs ability to act as a responsible student. This is NOT homeschooling, this isnt a way out of public school regulations and state requirements, students have the same responsibilities with Connections that they would have with a public school plus some. Do not push blame off on to the school if it belongs to you.

This school is BEYOND awful! If I could give them NO stars, I would. First let me state that their enrollment process is worse than a standard public school, and you will have a customer service person call you at LEAST twice a day until you complete enrollment to hound you about completing it. Second, the teachers ARE very nice, but they are not super responsive. My son is in third grade, and it took two days to get a response from one of his teachers regarding missing school supplies that would effect his lessons. As a result of her delayed response, he fell behind two days in his lesson and had to catch up! Then theres technical support. I called because one of the programs needed was not working correctly on my sons computer. The tech support agent I spoke with took remote control of my computer, and despite my objections, proceeded to install not one, but THREE programs on my sons computer. Without asking my permission! I was VERY upset by this so I asked to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor was beyond rude, and told me that it was MY fault for allowing the support agent to install the programs because I could have just moved my mouse to take control back of my computer at any time - something that was NEVER explained to me. Based on these EXTREMELY negative experiences within the first WEEK of the school year, I decided to withdraw my son from Connections Academy. When I tried to obtain his withdraw paperwork so I could enroll him in a new school, I called the local Houston office. I was sent to three different voicemails, ALL three were full and couldnt leave a message. I called corporate, who also tried to reach someone at the Houston office, who couldnt reach someone there either and basically told me there was nothing they could do to help me but for me to just keep trying to call the Houston office or to just go there in person. I called a couple more times, finally got through to a secretary who was able to transfer me to a live human being. This school COULD be great, but unfortunately their staff just really seems to not care at all. I wish I wouldve read more reviews of TCAH before enrolling my son there. It really wasnt worth all the hassle and effort of getting him in there.

Texas connections Acadamy has worked for us. It was very overwhelming at first for about a month, but weve gotten into a rountine and it doesnt take 8 hours a day anymore to finish school. Usually 5 hours then she does her PE for 45 min a day. Thats just me. Your only required to do 30 min five days a week but my daughter does 7 days a week. I think you have to just give it time. It does take getting used to but its great after that. I did this so my daughter would have a good education and not get in the the wrong crowds in school or peer pressure, and with issues of bullying that happens in public school she was in. Shes done great. Straight As! More time to concentrate on school with no distractions at home. Teachers reply and answer calls pretty good and fast.

Child will be punished for doing so, they will not consider previous school grades. They will turn your good student into a bad student. Their instruction is often not clear, they expect all students to have Microsoft word when they do not have a version for them to use in addition to that if your child is using open office, they will deduct point for not using word. They change assignments from the assignments listed making it a bit hard to keep up with whats going on, because its always changing. Teachers change, and there is no real line of communication. Their a few great teachers, but that wont make all for all the bad ones. We tried to homeschool for convenience and its been everything but convenient!

However, truth is if your student is enrolled in a state supported public school then their students have to perform a certain way on the high-stakes tests.K12 is most definitely NOT a better school. This is my daughters first year in CAH, she started in the second semester. I was worried because I had read a lot of reviews and some weren’t good, but our experience so far has been awesome. I do want to stress though, this is NOT homeschool it is a virtual public school. There is a little wiggle room for working at your own pace but not much. You have a planner that tells you what lessons you need to complete every day and you need to log 25 hours a week. When you register you have to watch all the videos that explain all the steps taking attendance, running your scheduler, turning in work, and you’ll think “I got this” lolThe first day you sign in you’ll freak out!! It seems so confusing...but take a breathe, climb back out from under your desk and call your child’s homeroom teacher. Don’t over think everything just go step by step it’s really not hard. Now portfolios, when I first saw this I panicked what is it, where do we find it, and how the heck do I get it to the teacher. Another deep breathe...your child will do a lot of work that is not turned in along with a little quick check at the end of each lesson they’ll answer 3-5 question. A portfolio is like a small project most of the time it’s at the end of every unit. They’re not hard and there’s a dropbox you up load it to at the end of the lesson. Plenty of people say there’s no communication but my daughter is in the 7th grade and ALL of her teachers are excellent. They answers phone calls and emails quickly, we have never had a problem with responses from any teacher. There are live lesson almost every day some are mandatory but most aren’t. The best thing is they are recorded so if you miss one just go to the message board and watch it when you can. All of the teachers have separate tutoring times so your child can get extra help outside of the live lesson. A lot of the complaints I see are over the amount of time your child has to put in. Like I said in the beginning this is not a homeschool, you can not just laze around all week and spend one day on the weekend catching up. This school takes the same amount of time each day that a brick and mortar school would. Your child has to be motivated, they have to WANT to learn, and they have to want to park their butts in that chair and follow a schedule. You can not skip ahead on lessons(insert eye roll) why would you want to??? That’s like reading the last chapter of a book first, you have no idea what’s going on. If you’re stuck on a lesson don’t skip it CALL your teacher. If you’re looking for an alternative to regular public school but still want your child to learn the same curriculum (most of the time it’s more advanced) and be on track for college, this is an awesome choice. If your child does not want to put in an effort and you think they can spend an hour a day on school work and still pass, this is not the right choice.

PLEASE DO RESEARCH BEFORE ENROLLLING IN TEXAS CONNECTIONS ACADEMY.Heres my storyMy Son and Daughter attended connections academy NEVADA and had an wonderful exspiercene. With our move to TX our kids 9th and 11th grade decided they wanted to get the social aspect of school so we enrolled them in the public school district. With in first semester our lived would change forever. Our DAUGHTER was ASSAULTED by a highschool boy. Sadly with some kids in this world today she was then bullied severely. So bad where she was considering taking her own life. If she wasnt getting punched by a boy she was getting her hair pulled, markers thrown at her face, called names that would tear her heart apart, pushed and the list goes on. Due to the severity of a child MY CHILD wanting to take her life and the death of a 13 year old whom already claimed her life in TX due to bullying the principal put in a order th leave the district so my daughter could enroll in a different district. Well, let me add they make it very difficult. So we considered going back with CONNECTIONS, so as you all know the enrollment process is a hassle and by far not the easiest thing, right. But we gotta do what we gotta . So with all verification submitted on my end ON TIME and all areas being checked green I received a phone call from a lady by the name of Amy whom was very nice tell me that she just wanted me aware that connections is more college base and with my daughter in special education she wanted to make sure she wouldnt struggle. Well after figuring it out it was determined that she would be ok to attend and that she will summit the clear for my child to now get her classes. Well after waiting days I noticed what was once marked green turned read reading report card not clear please resubmit so again I submitted same document. Days after it was cleared and i then waited for classes to appear well after seeing nothing with classes I noticed that parents must attend a live room to complete enrollment. After several attempts of it saying this is a private lesson it would not allow me to attend. Next step i called connections and was told sorry but you missed the meeting and cannot come in for this semester. With complete shock I asked to have a message sent to PRINCIPLE Which I wont list name for i have a lawyer on board explaining that this was out my control and an issue on there end that my child could not get enrolled in previous school for we feared of her taking her life with all she endoured and her possibly getting assaulted again . Well next day I received voicemail saying PRINCIPLE said no exceptions my child could not attend. Is this who we want running schools our kids attend, virtual or presence. A child is severely bullied to the point living seems to be the worse thing for her and this PRINCIPLE doesnt take the severity into consideration. Tell me,what if she claimed her life. Would this PRINCIPLE then care, when its to late. THIS HAS TO STOP. AS ADULTS, PARENTS,TEACHERS,PRINCIPLES AND SO ON MUST STAND UP AND PROTECT OUR YOUNG. And if this PRINCIPLE doesnt feel that this situation is sever then that speaks volumes of the care that is put into our kids of TX CONNECTIONS. Im a parent that wont stop, will be heard and will reach all resources to fix this. Bees outlets and all. My daughter wont be another victim.

After trying to get my son enrolled to the K12 program and was told very rudely that my county (Harris County one of the biggest and well know which I found very odd) didnt qualify for the free tuition based lessons and that I should enroll in their paid schooling option. I was forced to look elsewhere for my homeschooling needs and was delighted to come across a TCAH table at LegoFest and they explained very well and politely what their school was all about I was hooked and my son and I enjoy this school we are finishing up his 2nd year here. We love the staff and technical support who are always polite and eager to help.

FOR ALL LATE ENROLLEES: This was a most horrible experience. There should be no late enrollment. It sets students up to fail. My son (in the 10th grade) has consistently worked on his assignments in every class, yet the entire semester he remained in arrears. It is like running a race tied to an anchor. If there was any good in this experience it paled in comparison to the bad. I would think administration would see this as a problem and stop misleading enrollees just for quantity. If 70% of late enrollment students failed I would not be surprised. Why would they put students in this position? I would be remiss to give this school anything but a failing grade. If I could pull him out now without further damaging his GPA I would. A special thanks to Texas Connections Academy!!

This is not what I signed up for ..Am in 9th grade and I thought it was going to be a FLEXIBLE and on your own pace but it wasntYes you can start classes any time of the day but you HAVE to get them done by one day or else you stay up late finishing lessons or having to finish them tomorrow.I know I should be responsible for my schedule and all but sometimes I have to take it slow and really grasp what their teaching me.Sometimes I would have to call my teachers and they wouldnt answer my calls, and when I was looking for live lessons to attend not a single teacher had one. And if you didnt call in or attended a live lessons you would get a alarm letting you know you should call. I wasnt really much of a person that reached out to teachers for help and when I started this I was so lost because I was so shy into calling or web mailing them for help it made my life much harder and difficult. And when it came to making friends you can already imagine how that went down , I only had one classmate from PE and she was in 10th grade so she would help me in PE but couldnt help me on the main lessons. This was my first year doing homeschool (if you can call it) and it went straight down, also I want to say that when I was enrolling they had me in hold so many times, you see my mom doesnt speak English and so I talked for her but they always asked for my age and I would say my real one and they would tell me that I needed my mom to speak not me and I told them I could translate for her but no, they wanted a person from their office they would put me on hold for an hour only to go the voice mail and we tried many many times until I they answered the third day.My schools that I was suppose to go to started and I still wasnt doing school until I was accepted the next week which lead me to having lessons behind even though I wasnt sure what I was doing. There were lessons where it took me 3 days to finish them. Most of the lessons are just quizzes and test not a lot of learning activities , yeah I use to not like school but now makes me want to go back. Now I absolutely regret ever signing up for this , am planing on going back to my school next semesterI cant say this for everyone. Some people like this program and am fine with that maybe its was just how I started.

I have read some of the other reviews and it seems that those students and their parents or learning coaches did not understand that this is NOT HOMESCHOOL! This is an enriched (yes that does mean harder) public school. What that does mean, is your child is learning in a challenging environment that can somewhat be done around your schedule. This means work on the parent (yes, you are your childs advocate) and work on the student. I hear often, My child isnt motivated to work in that environment. Well as a parent, motivate them. Ride their butts. It is your responsibility to make sure you do whatever you can to assist your child to make good decisions that will enable them to be the best adult they can be. Not the procrastinating lazy person they will most likely become because they are not motivated. I love Connections. My twin girls have been in TCAH since 3rd grade and did FCA (Florida) for grades K-2. They are smart, in honors classes, well rounded and I am confident in the education they are receiving.

I chose this school over K12 because they specifically said they didnt use Common Core. When the textbooks finally arrived (several weeks into the school year), several of them had Common Core right on the cover! Connections@Houston has been the worst school experience my son has ever had. Each day was like a multi-step scavenger hunt just to find out what his assignments were, with hidden assessments, modifications buried six layers deep on the message board, dozens of emails a day containing modifications and directions, with no way to organize them, and teachers who refused to allow him entrance into the Live Lessons and then penalized him for not being there. Website is so terribly, chaotically, disorganized that even his father and I, with three degrees between us, had trouble using it. Nothing about it is intuitive, and the training they give you about it is sadly lacking and completely misses the reality of how hard it is to use. Each day was painful and usually ended in tears of frustration at the utter lack of success he met. Hed spend hours doing what he thought was the modified assignment, only to find that the correct modification was posted somewhere else, and hed get a 0 and have to re-do it completely from scratch. If you complain, or ask for special ed. testing, the system moves so slowly that nothing gets done for weeks at a time while your child keeps failing worse and worse. Like theyre hoping that youll just shut up and go away. Emphatically do not recommend it, especially for students with Aspergers. Their combination of apathy, indifference, and obstructionism has forced us to pull our son out, start getting his testing done privately, and homeschool him. They do have some good teachers who care and make an effort, but the majority of our sons teachers just cheerfully let him slip through the cracks. I do not recommend.

Pulled my 12 year old son from attending the public Middle School in our area after he finished 5th grade at his Elementary. We were dealing with a lot of issues, including Aspergers and bullying. This school has been the best thing for us. My son actually enjoys school again, and doesnt end every day in tears because people picked on him. Sure, there are times when he doesnt want to do school work, but thats going to be true no matter where he goes. He is doing great and is usually holding a high B and A average, many steps up from what he had in our local public school. Plus I can see all the assignments and know what hes supposed to be doing, rather then fighting to get information from teachers who send homework with no info. Schedule has freed up as well and he gets down time or breaks when he needs them. TCAH definitely works for us and will be enrolling my younger son as well later on.

UPDATE: I graduated from TCAH June 2018. This school saved me and helped me more than a public school ever could. It is all online except the state tests, but you do get phone calls and live lessons with the teachers. The teachers are always there to help, whether it be through text, webmail, live lesson or on the phone. Highly recommend. However, you have to be self motivated and be able to get assignments/lessons done daily.Ive been here since 8th. Im in 10th now, and I still love it. There were times where I got frustrated and disliked it, but very much so recommend it.

This school seems to ONLY care about the STAAR test! They put such an emphasis on this test, as if a childs whole life is weighted on whether or not they pass this test or not, and it is ridiculous! It has caused my child a great deal of anxiety because of how much pressure the school put on the children when it comes to this test. Its sad because their curriculum is mostly centered around the staar test and this method of learning leaves little room for a child to actually LEARN in a natural way and more importantly to learn in a way in which benefits each childs learning style. Children are not robotic clones of each other and each of them have their own unique learning styles and talents and abilities just as us adults do and yet this school doesnt seem to understand this.I wish there were more options in my area for educating my child, because we arent satisfied with Texas Connections Academy. Its like the school wants the benefits (FUNDING) of the state, but yet they are allowed to implement their own rules at the same time. Its terrible, and they could care less about the imput that they are given from families as well.P.S. to the commenter (Crystal Brown), could you please post again on how you were able to keep your children from taking that awful STAAR test? Because, they make it seem as if it will take an act of God to get your child out of taking the test.

Dont like the school, i am having an issue with them currently. after doing some research and long thinking about my child on taking the staar test, i decided to opt him out and boy were they pissed. and now that he is not taking the test they denied my son access to his page to complete daily lessons. he hasnt passed this test either time in the 3rd or 4th grade and its frustrating on him and me when we prepped him months in advance and and the length of time they have to take this test. so alot of foul things have occurred included them lying and saying my son was doing school work on my log in page which is not true and are making him absent because he cant log in to do school work. shame on the principles for being devious and ignorant about this situation. just accept the fact im not allowing my children to test and already agreed that they will not be returning next year. and they werent anyway because we have chosen to homeschool.

Connections Academy has been out school of choice for the past 4 years and will continue to be until its graduation day. The opportunity thos school allows for these kids is wonderful. Pre pandemic we had no issues with getting help enrolling or dealing with the process of getting information etc...we have noticed new families have had negative things to say about the school or having issues enrolling but these parents havent had the opportunity to even see what connections has to offer. So please, do not make your decision based on those reviews alone. The curriculum is amazing and allows the student to interact and do the work as rhey go. I myself have developed a system for my child and myself and it works for us. Teachers are there when needed and the students have many opportunities and chances to get extra help when necessary. Good luck and happy choosing.

I called to ask whenever they asked for a document they needed and asked if there was still availability for my daughter to come in and they always said yes. I deliver all the documents and when we finish delivering until the last document. They sent me an email saying that there was no room and that my daughter was going on a waiting list. Instead of speaking up from the beginning, they wasted my time.
